NRL Supercoach Finals | Tim's Team Reveal Week 3

We’re two weekends, three games and 240 minutes of action away from crowning an NRL Supercoach Finals champion.



For anyone ranked in the top 5,000 that’s still with an outside chance of winning the title (and HiLux), you’ll need to have a throw at the stumps.



How risky your approach to your team selection is will depend on rank, and how rogue you need to go.



If you’re sitting in the top 1,000 it may be as simple as going against the grain with captaincy selection, or perhaps a lower owned star fullback.



If you’re in 5,000th overall, you’ll need to go a little wild.



For myself personally, I’m locked in a battle with Guru and Matty the Waterboy with the loser given a brutal punishment (check out Beers &amp; Breakevens).

While I’m taking some super PODs at very low-ownership, I’m not going too wild for that reason.



If it weren’t for the punishment, my reluctant fade would be Herbie Farnworth in the hope Rob Toia does a job on him and keeps him at sub 75 odd points.



I am still considering this…



If you can do that and jag a CTW who bags a few tries and goes 120+ you’ll make massive moves.



To state the obvious though, Herbie is the best in the position, no doubt…

Keep in mind ownership stats are slightly skewed from any coaches who have thrown in the towel, but they’re close enough to the mark.

Hooker: Jeremy Marshall-King



JMK excites me at just 6% ownership, well below Reece Robson and Max Plath.



He’s probably the most likely of the three to punch out a sub 50 score, but I also feel with his attacking ability that he’s the most likely to tonne up.



He’s a crafty rake that loves to create around the ruck, if he can jag some major attacking stats we’re on for an 80+.



Front-row: Naufahu Whyte



Naf is carrying a hamstring concern which is a worry, however he stated he’s dealt with it over the back part of the season.



Despite this, he played big minutes leading into finals and was given an early shower against the Sharks due to the scoreline.



He’s the best available player in a weak position, which is making him hard to avoid.

Second-row: Kulikefu Finefeuiaki



Big Kulikefu has been on my radar all season, and I can finally say for the first time I’m an owner.



Sam Walker is firming to play, which should write the Dolphins game plan in targeting the injured halfback.



The Dolphins back-rower can belt out 60+ in base and power alone, while any attacking stats will push that to 80+ comfortably.



At 5% ownership I love the selection.



Halfback: Nathan Cleary



There’s a huge play to go against Nathan Cleary with his injured foot, we just don’t know how bad the condition is.



The risk in leaving him out is that he’s hampered very little, Penrith put 40 points on and he goes huge.



With very little elsewhere in the position, given Sam Walker is also coming back prematurely from injury, I think you just plug him in and move on.



While we don’t have captaincy stats, I suspect people will largely avoid the VC or C on him which could be the point of difference move if you’re backing the Penrith superstar to fire.

Five-eighth: Daly Cherry-Evans



I’ll be completely honest, I think the five-eighth position is an absolute stab in the dark.



Fletcher Sharpe is the best Supercoach player in the position but has to deal with the relentless Panthers outfit.



Kodi Nikorima has plenty of upside but also had four scores below 26 this season.



If Hugo Savala were to start at five-eighth or centre I’d lock him in.



It leaves me with DCE, let’s hope the old veteran gets among the attacking action against the Phins.



CTW: Herbie Farnworth



Herbie picks himself in the position if you’re wanting to play it safe, I need not explain this selection at all.



If you’re looking elsewhere, Tommy Jenkins is the ideal POD play in my view at just 4% selection which I’m still considering.



Jenkins was outstanding all season with an average of 83 points.



He gets a nice match-up on the left edge with Dom Young.

Fullback &amp; Flex: James Tedesco and Dylan Edwards



Returning from injury, Tedesco averages 97 points across the first two games of finals.



Conditions look decent in Brisbane for the clash against the Roosters, he’ll be my captain.



Dylan Edwards is a POD play at fullback, surprisingly picked by just 18% as coaches flock to Teddy and Kalyn Ponga.



I’m still awaiting confirmation of the goal-kicking duties, but there’s a strong chance Edwards does kick.



With Cleary likely hampered by injury, I suspect Edwards will increase his attacking involvement to aid his star half.



Provided he’s goal-kicking, and potentially even if not, he’ll be my vice-captain.
