NRL Supercoach Finals | Tim's NRL Grand Final Team Reveal

There’s one week of NRL Supercoach finals to play and an almighty punishment for the Cooma Stallions if we finish last in the Beers and Breakevens battle.

It’s myself against Guru and Matty the Waterboy, with plenty on the line heading into the NRL grand final.

The loser across the duration of the NRL Supercoach Finals campaign has to go to a popular restaurant in Sydney which has framed photos of celebrities all along the wall.

From Hamish Blake to Latrell Mitchell, it’s a stacked cast.

The loser of our battle has to take in a photo and pen, and convince staff that we should be on the wall, stopping at no cost to get it up there.

It’s my idea of hell…

Unfortunately, I’m also sitting third on the table. I’m 70 points behind Matty and 140 behind Guru.

In a good gesture for the sake of content, they’ve offered to give me James Tedesco and they get Kalyn Ponga.

Below I’ll reveal my team that’s based largely on going against those boys, while I’ll also list who I think the best pick in the position is.

There’s more detail and stats in my team list analysis from Tuesday, so go and check that out if interested.

Here’s my squad for NRL Supercoach finals week four.

Embed from Getty Images

HOOKER

Harrison Graham

Reece Robson is the obvious pick with big minutes locked in, and I still may swing that way pending team lists.

Regardless, I actually think Graham has a game suited slightly better to Supercoach scoring.

He’s slightly more creative around the ruck and is more likely to produce major attacking stats.

His minutes are the issue. If he looks likely for 60+ which I think he will I’m very keen.

Sub 60 minutes could prove a fair setback though.

Top pick: Reece Robson

Embed from Getty Images

FRONT-ROW

Naufahu Whyte

Big Naf has been underwhelming to say the least with a three round finals average of just 38.3 points, with a very early shower in week two.

He’s been managed with a hamstring concern, but with no games to come I expect big minutes for the strike front-rower.

A small part of me feels like the big fella is crashing over for a try in this one.

Top pick: Naufahu Whyte

SECOND-ROW

Jermaine McEwen

I found this the hardest position in separating McEwen, Francis Manuleleua and Siua Wong.

Francis may be carrying a niggle of sorts with some underwhelming numbers in finals which is a concern.

McEwen on the other hand is knocking out massive base stats, has found some attack and will be a target running at Sam Walker.

In a tough spot, he’s my pick.

Top pick: Wide open

Embed from Getty Images

HALFBACK

Sam Walker

I think Sammy pretty well picks himself.

The bigger question will be whether or not you put the captaincy or vice-captaincy on him.

If you want to differentiate in the halves, I’d pick Walker at halfback and Sandon Smith at five-eighth.

Top pick: Sam Walker

Embed from Getty Images

FIVE-EIGHTH

Fletcher Sharpe

I’ve been high on Sharpe all week.

I think he’s made for the big stage and could even find himself walking away with a Clive Churchill Medal.

His game is elite in so many areas, and with his electric running game he’s made for Supercoach scoring.

He can also go sub 50, so there’s no knock on anyone targeting a POD play here in Sandon or Daly Cherry-Evans.

I’m all-in on Fletch!

Top pick: Fletcher Sharpe

Embed from Getty Images

CTW

Dominic Young

Guru is captaining Marky Mark which scares me immensely, as I’m in the chasing pack I’ve gone elsewhere.

Dom genuinely has a 20 in him, but he also has a 150+, perhaps not in a grand final…

Watching the Knights closely throughout finals they’re sending all their attacking ball down the right edge of Dane Gagai and Young.

Their early shifts from their own half are all focused on getting the speedy winger into space which works so frequently.

They’ll continue to attack there in the grand final, so I’m hoping Dom gets in on the try-scoring action.

Top pick: Mark Nawaqanitawase

Embed from Getty Images

FULLBACK

James Tedesco

It’s pretty hard to split Teddy and KP, but I’ve opted for the Roosters fullback.

I feel like a bad day out for Teddy is 50-60, while KP could be 30-40 without goal-kicking.

There is a scenario where the Roosters win this well and Teddy has a grand final field day, while I don’t see Newcastle winning by a big margin.

For the record, I think the Roosters win in a tight contest. I’d love to be wrong, like I have been with the Knights all season.

It’s Teddy for me, but it’s near enough a coin toss.

Top pick: James Tedesco

FLEX

SIUA WONG

If not for my contest with Ru and Matty, I’d just slot in KP and probably VC him.

However it’s not to be, so I’ve opted for Siua Wong.

While I’m tempted to add another CTW for upside, that position could go very low in a grinding grand final with two excellent defensive outfits.

Wong should smash out 50-60 in base and power, which could easily be 80+ with any major attacking stats added.

Top pick: Kalyn Ponga
