NRL Supercoach Finals | Tim's Team Reveal Week 2


<p>We move onto week two of NRL Supercoach finals and continue the dwindling bid to win the HiLux.</p>



<p>In its second year, NRL Supercoach finals is proving an excellent addition to the Supercoach landscape.</p>



<p>It’s a lighter approach to the game that’s far less stressful without the requirement of looking ahead when picking your team.</p>



<p>It allows you to enjoy the beauty of NRL finals footy, with a dose of Supercoach to make it even better.</p>



<p>I’m in a tricky position with team selection this week.</p>



<p>Normally after a mid-ranked start I’d go a little wild with selections and captaincy choices, however a rather grim punishment awaits if I finish last on Beers and Breakevens alongside Guru and the Waterboy.</p>

<p>Considering Guru triple captained Herbie Farnworth last week, there’s work to do.</p>



<p>The loser of the three must take a framed picture of themselves into a popular Sydney restaurant and attempt to convince the manager to let them sign it and put it up on the wall being a ‘popular sporting media personality’.</p>



<p>It’s my idea of torture….</p>



<p>For that reason, I will take a balanced approach of some ultra low-ownership point of difference plays, while also being cautious by adding the proven guns of the game at higher ownership.</p>



<p>As I write this on Friday, I’m fairly well committed to my side for the weekend.</p>



<p>However, like any Supercoacher out there I’ll take in any news and changes that may arise in coming days and could always make a change.</p>



<p>My one change could come in the 2RF position, more on that below.</p>

<p>Keep in mind ownership stats are slightly skewed from any coaches who threw in the towel last week, but they’re close enough to the mark.</p>



<p>Here’s my squad for NRL Supercoach finals week two.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>HOK</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Blayke Brailey</strong></p>



<p>Brailey is once again the obvious pick here, sitting at 63% ownership.</p>



<p>Rinse and repeat last week, he’s a guaranteed 80-minute man with attacking upside.</p>



<p>If the Roosters were to win well it could really limit him, and he is coming off a 44 point score, but he is the best option available.</p>



<p>It feels to me like going elsewhere is overthinking it, and when he comes out with a try and linebreak for 80-100 points you’ll shake your head.</p>



<p>That being said, Reece Robson is also an 80-minute man at the moment and is capable of attack and is a genuine alternative.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>FRF</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Naufahu Whyte</strong></p>



<p>Big Naf gets the nod over Addin Fonua-Blake this week by a small margin.</p>



<p>I think you’ll likely be able to throw a blanket over the top performing FRF options by the end of the weekend, unless one of them finds a try and linebreak, or try-assist and line-assist.</p>



<p>Whyte hasn’t scored or assisted all year so the stats suggest that probably won’t change, but he’s still had a strong season.</p>



<p>He averaged 60 points with an excellent 58.9 points in base and power.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2RF</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Siua Wong</strong></p>



<p>I’m heavily tossing up between Wong and Jacob Laban.</p>



<p>Both are super PODs at 11% and 5% respectively.</p>



<p>Further, both looked to potentially be carrying niggles last week.</p>



<p>Laban is more likely to explode for a big tonne, but is also the more likely of the two to get a spell at some stage.</p>



<p>Granted, I do expect him to play the full 80 despite looking hindered by a niggle late in the loss to the Dolphins.</p>



<p>Wong averaged 66 points this season with 61 in base and power stats, and will be running at the injured Braydon Trindall which is the main reason I’ve selected him over Laban.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>HFB</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Nicho Hynes</strong></p>



<p>I won’t go into too much detail here, Nicho Hynes looks pretty hard to avoid.</p>



<p>There really is a world where the Roosters win well and keep Nicho to 50 odd points, but there’s another where the Sharks win and he goes full Nicho for 150+ points.</p>



<p>With few quality alternatives, it feels a pretty big gamble to go elsewhere.</p>



<p>If you want to leave him out, I think the play would be to pick Te Maire Martin at halfback and Fletcher Sharpe at five-eighth.</p>

<p><strong>Te Maire Martin</strong></p>



<p>TMM was the best player at five-eighth during the season by a mile.</p>



<p>He let me down last week with just 48 points, but when you delve deeper into the numbers it doesn’t make for bad reading.</p>



<p>Playmakers are reliant on attacking stats to score respectably, his only attacking stat was a forced dropout for 6 points.</p>



<p>He’ll repay the faith with a 75+ score, hopefully 100+.</p>

<p><strong>Bradman Best</strong></p>



<p>Best is my super POD at just 3% ownership on the left edge for the Knights.</p>



<p>If you are keen on the Knights you could pair him with Greg Marzhew.</p>



<p>During the regular season, Marzhew scored 20 tries in 14 games with Best inside him.</p>



<p>Without Best on deck, he scored just 4 tries in 9 games.</p>



<p>There’s a stack of quality low-ownership picks at CTW, hopefully Best can extend on his 69 point season average.</p>



<p>The pair tormented the Warriors in New Zealand in round 26, can they replicate their feats in finals week two?</p>

<p><strong>Kalyn Ponga (VC) and James Tedesco (C)</strong></p>



<p>My fullback and flex will go to star No.1s in KP and Teddy.</p>



<p>I’ve tried to get tricky and leave one out, but they’re so clearly the best Supercoach players available for selection this week, along with Nicho Hynes.</p>



<p>I couldn’t bring myself to leave them out.</p>



<p>I currently have the captaincy on Teddy which is unlikely to change, and VC on KP on Sunday.</p>



<p>If I have an underwhelming Saturday night fixture, I’ll be tempted to roll the dice with the double point VC on Te Maire Martin.</p>
