Supercoach World Cup | Dylan Bolch's Team Reveal


<p>The World Cup is here!</p>



<p>And my gosh am I excited.&nbsp;</p>



<p>With the action just hours away, here’s how I’m currently placed.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>GOALKEEPERS</strong></h2>



<p>I’ve gone with Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois in between the sticks, with fixtures against Egypt and Iran in the first two rounds. </p>



<p>Belgium should be a chance for a clean sheet in both those matches.</p>



<p>He’s joined by Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez, who gets Algeria and Austria in the first two. </p>



<p>I don’t love those matchups, but I think Argentina will go deep in the tournament so he’s a guy I can hopefully rely on. </p>



<p>Both Courtois and Martinez are in over 35 per cent of teams, so I’m happy to stick with the pack here I think for now.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>DEFENDERS</strong></h2>



<p>My aim here is to pick players from good sides with good fixtures, who also have attacking potential. Portugal’s Nuno Mendes and Spain’s Marc Cucurella fit that criteria beautifully.</p>



<p>Columbia’s Daniel Munoz I’ve also got in there at the moment, with opening games against Uzbekistan and Congo DR. He’s another that loves to get involved offensively.</p>



<p>Switzerland’s right back Silvan Widmer is also in my side for now. Qatar in the first round, followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, should mean he scores plenty of points. </p>



<p>He’s a super point of difference play, owned by less than one per cent of teams. </p>

<p>My final defender is Brazil’s Gabriel, although I’m not totally sold there. </p>



<p>Unlike at Arsenal where he is a constant goal threat from corners, I don’t think he’ll see the same volume at a national level. </p>



<p>However, a centre back playing for one of the best teams in the tournament is always worth a look. </p>



<p>My biggest fades on this line are Dutchman Virgil Van Dijk (tough matchup against Japan first up) and Achraf Hakimi (tough matchup against Brazil), while I don’t have room for William Saliba or Antonio Rudiger, because I’d rather target attackers from France and Germany early in the tournament. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>MIDFIELDERS</strong></h2>



<p>Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes has been locked into my side since it opened. </p>



<p>He’s suited to the Supercoach scoring system (averaged 13.2 SC points per game in EPL) and I think he should be involved in plenty for Portugal. </p>



<p>Is on set pieces and is the backup penalty taker behind Ronaldo. Season-long keeper.</p>



<p>I’m also keen on Germany’s Florian Wirtz. </p>



<p>He struggled to make an impact for Liverpool this year in the Premier League, but he’s a different gravy playing for Germany. </p>



<p>He was Germany’s most creative player throughout qualifying and I want a piece of that attack with opening fixtures against Curacao and Ivory Coast. </p>

<p>Similarly, teammate Joshua Kimmich is one I’m big on. Not only does he get involved in offensive play, he’s a force to be reckoned with defensively. </p>



<p>I’m hoping the Germans go deep and I can use both for the majority of the tournament.</p>



<p>Belgium wizard Kevin De Bruyne is also in there. </p>



<p>I think he’s one of the best players in the world and I absolutely love watching him. He’s on set pieces and will likely take penalties if Lukaku isn’t on the field. </p>



<p>My final slot at the moment is France’s Michael Olise. Alongside Kylian Mbappe, I really want to capitalise on France’s explosive attack in those opening weeks.&nbsp;</p>



<p>My biggest fades are England duo Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice who have a tough opening fixture against Croatia, Spanish midfielder Pedri and Uruguayan Valverde. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>FORWARDS</strong></h2>



<p>As most teams are, I’m backing in Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, the two most owned forwards in the game.</p>



<p>I expect France to go deep into the tournament and they’ve also got a juicy two opening fixtures against Senegal and Iraq. Mbappe should cash in big time.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Haaland could seriously feast against Iraq in the first round and I think he’s a great captaincy play.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Depending on how Norway are tracking, he’s one I could reconsider ahead of the third round, where Norway come up against France. </p>

<p>My third slot currently goes to Mikel Oyarzabal, who’s been in great form for Spain in recent times.&nbsp;</p>



<p>In his last 11 appearances for the national side, he’s booted 12 goals and had six assists.</p>



<p>That means I’m fading young gun Lamine Yamal, who’s dealing with a hamstring problem right now.&nbsp;</p>



<p>I don’t really want to have a forward slot wasted on a guy who could be on limited minutes, hence why I’m looking to Oyarzabal, who’s owned by just four per cent of teams.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Another player I’m considering is Raphinha from Brazil who is in just two per cent of teams, but I think I’m happy to fade England’s Harry Kane for now with a tough opening fixture against Croatia. He’s one I can look at down the track.</p>
