NRL Supercoach Final Word | Round 5 trades and skippers

With a month of footy behind us, it feels like the perfect time to take stock of events so far and reassess our SuperCoach plan of attack for month number two on the rugby league calendar. 



Turbo Irvo knocked out 1256 last week, which seemed around about par. 



However, not having Arama Hau for his Sunday masterclass definitely put a dent in my upwards trajectory as I slipped 1,000 spots to 2,800th overall for my first red arrows of the season.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Round 5 NRL Supercoach Strategy</h3>



Opting for Paseka over Hau came back to haunt me much more than it realistically should have, but that&#8217;s the brutal nature of this game we all love; you never quite know just how crucial a seemingly trivial decision might end up being. 



This week, I’ll be correcting my error and bringing Hau straight into my team as he looks like a borderline must-have with Jayden Campbell on his inside. 



$400k with a -40 odd breakeven and dual status? Yes please. 



Angus Crichton will be the man to make way as he simply hasn’t been able to hit his straps yet, and we don’t have time to wait around and let him marinate. 



I said at the end of last year that one of my major errors was hanging onto players too long, waiting for them to come good, so this trade is a reflection of me changing my ways even though I think Angus will inevitably remind everyone why he is a known commodity in the near future, as will Sam Walker. 



Speaking of halfbacks, we have never seen such a scintillating start in the position as a whole since the origins of SuperCoach, truly flush with keepers across the board. 



Whether you have Cleary, Hynes, Hughes, Campbell, Doueihi or Boyd seemingly hasn’t mattered much in terms of averages &#8211; but obviously the cheaper guys have been much more value for money, though I doubt they’ll stay that way for long. 



I’m personally not going to put all my eggs in the halfback basket just yet, because I’m not fully convinced this rampage of scoring will continue, though I can’t blame anyone for thinking otherwise and trying to get two or even three of the aforementioned guys in ASAP.&nbsp;



But if I&#8217;m not getting one of these top-flight halfbacks into my team despite them all averaging close to 100, then what am I doing?

Well, before I name who I inevitably name, I should preface this discussion with the fact that there is an ocean of options to chuck in flex this season, ranging from CTW guns like Thomas Jenkins and Will Warbrick who are scoring tries for fun, to 2RF powerhouses like Kulikefu Finefeuiaki, Jaydn SuA and Hudson Young, who are all passing every test imaginable to be considered final 18 players. 



But of course, I can’t look past the triple gun fullback strategy while the points are coming so thick and fast. 



Fozball is here, and hopefully it’s enough to kick manly off the gutter and into the street where they can pick themselves up off the asphalt and string a few wins together to try to salvage the season. 



Thus, Sir Tommy Turbo comes home to Turbo Irvo, as he so often does. He looks fit, he looks hungry, and he looks like he’s ready to throw down some enormous SuperCoach scores to throw a cat amongst the pigeons for those ranked at the top of the leaderboard.



Will these enormous scores come in a be Thursday night game? 



Probably not… but I’m willing to back him in for the next month of easy fixtures nonetheless. 



Keano Kini will be making way, despite him having a 100+ average against the Broncos. 



He has had a month to reconcile our faith, but the scores just haven’t come. 



Reece Walsh remains the number one trade in this round by some margin, and I would heavily advise those who don’t own him to reconsider getting him this week before he ends your season.  



In the front row, Jackson Ford, Isaiah Papali’i and Alex Twal remain the standouts and all remain fantastic buys for those who aren’t done tweaking FRF yet.
