NRL Supercoach Final Word | Round 13 trades and skippers


<p>Round 13 looms, and it looks to be far and away the trickiest round we’ve faced this season. </p>



<p>With multiple Origin players already confirmed not to be backing up for clubland and the fact that we still have to field a full 18 players has many Supercoaches scrambling to find the numbers, myself included.</p>



<p>After a solid 1078pts on last week&#8217;s first major bye round, Turbo Irvo has moved into 1248th overall, which is only about 120 points away from the top 500. </p>



<p>I haven’t saved a single trade yet so far this season, and I’m not planning to start now.</p>

<p>Continued aggression has been working wonders, and as far as I&#8217;m concerned has been the correct approach to take in a season where we have seen overall scoring yet again ramp upwards. </p>



<p>When the points are there for the taking, you have to take them, trade now and face the consequences later down the track (pray for less carnage than usual).</p>



<p>Both Tolutau Koula and Haumole Olakau’atu are not backing up for Manly in tonight&#8217;s game, which leaves me in a bit of a tricky predicament for trades. </p>



<p>Koula is an obvious sell because he won’t be playing the next few games, and the only two players I’d be willing to sell him to are Thomas Jenkins and Jacob Kiraz, who are both CTW keepers in my eyes.</p>



<p>Jenkins sits at 625k with a year average of 86.3 and plays 5 of the next 6 rounds, enough said.</p>

<p>Jacob Kiraz starred at fullback last week, knocking out his first ton of the season. He plays 4 of the next 6, missing rounds 15 and 18, which may be enough to deter lots of potential buyers. </p>



<p>The offloads and tackle busts were back in business, so I say the less potential buyers the better prospect he becomes.</p>



<p>Popular Cronulla pairing Kayal Iro and Nicho Hynes have also been ruled out of tonight&#8217;s game with indefinite return dates for both as of writing. </p>



<p>Both are keepers, and both are holds as long as the return time frame is only 2-3 weeks at most; anything longer and they become immediate sells at their price points.</p>

<p>The Tigers engine room is still the place to be investing if you haven’t already. </p>



<p>All three of Terrell May, Alex Twal and Kai Pearce Paul are absolute SuperCoach studs this season, and in my eyes all are borderline must-haves over this period as they don’t miss a single game and all average 80-85.</p>



<p>Get all three, and you scoop up nearly 250 guaranteed points every round through this tricky period.</p>

<p>Moving onto fullback. I’ve employed a musical chairs approach to the flex position, which is not necessarily fullback roulette; however, when the case study is Reece Walsh facing the Dragons this week and the Titans next week, the decision to buy him becomes obvious.</p>



<p>The hard part is who to sell. Scott Drinkwater coming off a 120 or Sua Fa’alogo, who is simply an out-of-form player in an out-of-form team at super high ownership. </p>



<p>I don’t feel particularly good or comfortable about selling Fa’alogo, which is very unlike me, as normally I have full conviction in my trades; however, it’s the logical trade to make at my rank if I want to continue pushing upwards.</p>



<p>Captains are wide open this week; however, I think I’ll stick with my strategy of going for maximum upside rather than playing it safe.</p>

<p>Three options I’m considering:</p>



<p>a) Ponga VC into Terrell May C<br>b) Ponga VC into Reece Walsh C<br>c) VC Walsh into C Cleary (presuming he backs up)</p>



<p>At this point I’m leaning towards option b.</p>
