NBA Supercoach Team Reveal | Oscar's squad + analysis

After months of waiting, the NBA is finally back!



Wednesday will also mark the start of the inaugural season of NBA Supercoach, exciting times indeed. 



I am sorry I have left it until so late to reveal my team, but with the amount of daily changes I have been making to my side, there wasn&#8217;t much point in revealing it any earlier.



I have now reached a team that I am relatively happy with, and I doubt there will be many changes before opening night. 



That being said, it is definitely not 100% locked in just yet, and there are many players that I love the look of that have just missed the cut.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Strategy</h3>



Without giving too much away just yet, let&#8217;s just briefly mention my overall strategy when building my starting side:

Short-term fixture focus



You will find that the majority of my team plays the maximum of 7 games across the first two weeks.



With so much uncertainty at the start of the season, and so many seemingly 50/50 decisions to make between players, I have decided to be safe and choose the player who plays the extra match.



This provides them with a better scoring floor for the first two weeks, but also a potential for higher cash generation. 



The incredibly short-term focus is also based on the fact that we can use three trades a week, which I can use to adjust to changing schedules on the run.



Cheapest bench possible



As you will soon see, I really have spent minimal money on my bench, while still getting players that should see somewhat stable minutes.



With three trades per week, you will rarely need these bench players to cover for a starter and actually score for your team.



Instead, they are there for hopefully long-term cash generation.



Mix of pricepoints



I have attempted to build the best team possible across the board, which has resulted in a healthy mix of premium, mid-range and cheapie options.



This also allows flexibility when making trades to players of all different price points.



Anyway, that&#8217;s enough of the strategic dribble, let&#8217;s get into the players, shall we!

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Premium captaincy options</h3>



Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC) (PG)



The reigning NBA MVP, Finals MVP, and NBA Champion starts the year off with 11 games in the first 3 weeks and looks hard to avoid.



I actually toggled with the idea of leaving Shai off my team to start the season, but with their incredible schedule, I couldn&#8217;t go against him.



They call him Mr.Consistent for a reason, as he seemingly drops 30+ every night (other than when he is in my multi of course).



Jalen Williams is also set to miss the start of the season, which may lead to even more shots and playmaking for Shai.



Despite the hefty price tag, lock him in.

Victor Wembanyama (SAS) (C)



He is the definition of a generational talent, and the definition of someone who I want in my Supercoach side.



After what we have already seen from him in the NBA, it would be disrespectful to say that this could be his breakout season, but I genuinely believe he could take his game to yet another level.



I could realistically see him averaging 26/12/4, along with a profuse amount of steals and blocks.



Unfortunately, the schedule isn&#8217;t the best, with just 3 games in each of the first three weeks; however, the talent and upside are enough to still attract me.



Luka Doncic (LAL) (PG)



Luka is actually priced a few million less than most of these other premium guns, and for someone I already like the look of, I think there is so much value in this pick.



From a general NBA perspective, he is my pick for MVP this season, and yes, maybe a little bias, but still, I think most NBA fans would agree that he is a good shot at it if he manages to stay healthy.



From a Supercoach perspective, his schedule is great to start the season with maximum games across the first few weeks.



LeBron is also out to start the season, which leaves Doncic in charge.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Mid-range value picks</h3>



Devin Booker (PHX) (PG/SG)



I love this pick, and it may be because I have always been a Booker-stan, but I also think there is plenty of logic behind it.



With KD being traded to Houston, Phoenix is back to being Book&#8217;s team. 



Unfortunately, they are going to be bad this year, but if they are going to win any games, it will be off Booker&#8217;s back.



It is just an added bonus that Phoenix has a great schedule to start the season.



Donovan Mitchell (CLE) (PG/SG)



We all know by now how good a player Mitchell is, and leading one of the best teams in the league, he is bound to put up good numbers.



Like many of my players, the Cavs have a great early-season schedule, so plenty of opportunity for Supercoach output. 



What actually drew me to this pick was the news that Garland is likely to miss the start of the season, leaving Mitchell an even larger role.



With Garland out to start the season, I could see Mitchell starting hot and averaging close to 30 points over the first couple of weeks.

Derrick White (BOS) (PG/SG)



With Tatum&#8217;s injury leaving plenty of usage to be distributed around, a lot of Celtics options look enticing to start the season.



I contemplated the idea of picking multiple of them to &#8216;cover all bases&#8217;, but I have decided to just go for my favourite of the lot in White.



I think he will definitely see an increase in usage that should improve both his scoring and playmaking numbers.



Great value at his price.



Deni&nbsp;Avdija (POR) (SF/PF)



If there was one pick in my team that I would say is not locked in yet, it would be this one.



Don&#8217;t get me wrong, I think Avdija is a great option at his price, and he has the potential to put up great numbers on this Portland team.



However, their schedule is mediocre to start the season, and at his price, I feel as though there are better options, just not at his position as it turns out. 



I would be happy with him in my starting side, but don&#8217;t be surprised if he misses out come opening night.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Starting Cheapies</h3>



Cooper Flagg (DAL) (SF/PF)



I shouldn&#8217;t need to say much, as the Spy said on the SCPlaybook NBA podcast, he should be nothing short of 100% owned.



The number one pick possesses all the talent in the world and appears as NBA-ready as they come at the age of 18 years old.



Jason Kidd has already confirmed that Flagg will be starting in a new role as point guard on opening night.



This role should lead to more playmaking opportunities and maybe even higher usage than originally expected.



I am not guaranteeing he starts hot, but I am more than comfortable having him start in my Supercoach side.



Ace Bailey (UTA) (SF/PF)



Ace will definitely be in my team to start the season, but his spot in my starting side is not ideal at all, and might change before opening night.



At his price, he is a great option who offers so much value as he will likely get 30+ minutes per night and should see decent usage.



My concern with starting him in week one is that he only has the two games, which I don&#8217;t like the sound of.

Jaylen Wells (MEM) (SG/SF)



I really wanted someone from this Memphis team with their amazing opening fixtures.



At first, it was going to be Ja, but with his preseason injury worries, I am leaning towards a much cheaper piece of their team in the form of Wells.



Now, I don&#8217;t expect this pick to light the house on fire, but at his price, I see good value in a guy that should see 30+ minutes every game.



A hot shooting hand to start the season could be all I need to see some solid price rises.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bench cheapies</h3>



Reed Sheppard (HOU) (PG/SG) 



Might not start like initially hoped, but either way, should see good minutes as one of the only guards and shooters over in Houston.



Javon Small (MEM) (PG)



At the absolute basement price, Small should see reasonable minutes with Memphis&#8217;s depleted roster, especially if Morant misses time to start the season.

Ryan Kalkbrenner (CHA) (C)



I don&#8217;t expect the rookie to start immediately, but I wouldn&#8217;t be surprised if he eventually wins the starting spot.



Much better option than Jaylin Williams in my opinion, with a lot more potential game time opportunity.



Terrence Shannon Jr. (MIN) (SG/SF)



Should see more minutes with NAW now gone, unlikely to score that well, but should generate some cash. 



Josh Minott (BOS) (SF/PF)



After a solid preseason, Minott looks like he will be part of the regular rotation over in Boston.



Once again, not exciting, but it shall do at the price.
