Spy Talk | Origin Ramifications on NRL Supercoach


<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Injuries</strong></h3>



<p>With Origin 1 behind us (Up the Blues!), we can start to get an idea of who and who may not be available over the coming weeks from both an injury and Origin 2-3 duty perspective.</p>



<p>Firstly, we seem to have come away without too much damage from Game 1 in relation to injuries.</p>



<p>Early word, as of Thursday lunchtime, is that <strong>Tino Fa&#8217;asuamaleaui</strong> is in some doubt with a face issue, though there is no concrete word that he will miss the game against the Storm, and I believe he may have even stated that he is keen to back up. </p>

<p>The only major ramification here is that you could potentially sell him if he were to miss, as he would not play this week or round 15. </p>



<p>But he would still play the other rounds outside of Game 3 (Round 18), so looks a firm hold unless you desperately need the cash/player numbers and then look to bring him back after Origin 3 and pray for some reduced minutes until then (Rounds 14, 16 &amp; 17 he looks set to play).</p>



<p><strong>Harry Grant</strong> has been somewhat troubled by injury all year, so it would be no shock to see him rested or play minimal minutes. </p>



<p><strong>Munster </strong>appears fit, but we should always be on alert for a late resting.</p>



<p>Outside of this, our blokes may be okay to go, but monitor late mail as closely as you can, as there may be an injury or two out of the game that we are not yet aware of.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Squad Changes</strong></h3>



<p>With Queensland really losing the battle of the middle and, as a flow-on effect, the backline battle, it places Billy Slater in a tough spot ahead of a must-win Game 2 clash. </p>



<p>Does he cut ties with some decorated veterans? Can he find more horsepower in the pack? How about the backline and spine?</p>



<p>For mine, <strong>Corey Horsburgh</strong> is the obvious candidate to get a call-up, so if you own him, enjoy the next two games of him trying to make a statement and then be prepared to move him on. </p>



<p>The facts are he may not actually get called up, so we can just wait and see here because he looks to be a super number this week for owners as he typically finds his way to 60-odd points if he can stay out of the bin! </p>



<p>If he was your only ticket to someone like <strong>Koloamatangi,</strong> then I’m ok to sell now.</p>



<p>My suggestion is that someone like a <strong>Daly Cherry-Evans </strong>or <strong>Kalyn Ponga,</strong> even,<strong> </strong>could suddenly become available, and with Queensland under the pump, anything could happen, so hold tight for a week or two on trades that are not urgent or attacking. </p>



<p>They may go in somewhat unchanged; we just don’t know.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Not necessarily focusing on byes</strong></h3>



<p>With all of this being said, there may be opportunities to make trades that are not bye-focused. </p>



<p>We still get three trades before each major bye to cover number issues, so in the interim, you may wish to chase an attacking player like a <strong>Zac Lomax</strong> or similar who isn’t a bye coverage option but could go troppo during the between origin rounds and stay all season long! </p>



<p>Don’t be scared to chase that big score but at the same time be wary of your numbers for the big bye rounds because whilst some like <strong>Olakau&#8217;atu </strong>or even <strong>Garrick</strong> to a degree may not be firing just now they could easily score 200 between them in round 15 and/or 18 when it matters most.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Going early on bye coverage options</strong></h3>



<p>One more point at this time of year, and it revolves around patience and not going too early on someone you trade in for bye coverage, especially for rounds 18 and 19. </p>



<p>Even round 15 is still a couple of full rounds away so while bringing in genuine keepers who cover the byes is a great option, I would also be slightly weary of non-keepers as anything can happen in a short period and I would hate to bring in someone who is ‘only ok’ just to see them go down before you need them most and waste 2 trades.</p>



<p>For example, getting <strong>Koloamatangi </strong>now is great because in the middle (his new role), he is a genuine keeper and can score huge straight away. </p>



<p><strong>Jazz Tevaga </strong>is another example, however, he&#8217;s not guaranteed to have a role that benefits scoring in two weeks&#8217; time, so I would advise waiting until as close as possible to the major bye week to trade him in. </p>



<p>He certainly could, but the role could change. </p>



<p>Just something to consider, and this could apply to numerous players.</p>

<p><strong>VC Papenhuyzen</strong> into <strong>Terrell May C </strong>if Papi scores below 90. </p>
