The Final Word | Round 16 NRL Supercoach Trades plans and strategy

<p>I’d like to avoid any Origin chat but unfortunately that is not possible. Too good Qld, not good enough from my boys in blue. </p>



<p>No excuses and onto game 3 and I’ll tell you it’s going to be a genuine cracker. Side note, if you get a chance to watch the replay or highlights of the Under 19s Origin it genuinely blew me away! Some Supercoach stars of the future on show and the style of footy was entertainment plus. Lots of kids backing themselves and playing what’s in front of them. Awesome to see!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Origin Backups </strong></h2>



<p>As for this round of NRL. It looks TOUGH for us coaches. The Bulldogs, St George and Manly all on the bye plus general injuries and Origin back ups.</p>



<p>In terms of Origin backs up this is my current guesswork based on information at 9am Friday on how the key men are looking &#8211;</p>



<p>Ponga – Every chance by the sound of things especially given they are playing in Perth but he has been carrying an injury or 2 so no guarantee as Sharpe could shift to FB.</p>



<p>Coates – Sounds like Melbourne are trying to back their guys up this week and secure the 2 points. Find out at the 24 hour cut tonight hopefully.</p>



<p>Toia – Playing Sunday I’d suggest he plays.</p>



<p>Holmes – On the bye</p>



<p>Tabuai-Fidow – He would be every chance</p>



<p>Munster – It seems he is playing!</p>



<p>Harry Grant – A good chance to play but no ownership at the moment so no overly relevant. Close watch however.</p>



<p>Tino – Doubtful</p>



<p>Edwards, To’o, Cleary. Yeo – OUT</p>



<p>Latrell – Good chance to back up</p>



<p>Lomax – Every chance to pay but it is the last game which makes it tricky</p>



<p>Luai – In most likely</p>



<p>Haas – Doubtful</p>



<p>Hudson Young – Likely to play but minutes are a risk</p>



<p>Connor Watson – Every chance to backup and should given limited minutes in Origin</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Strategy</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Overall Players</strong></p>



<p>This week is all about getting through. Use trades if you are short but 17 may be enough. 18 preferred. Put your guys who play early in the round into your starting line up to help with late outs as you can rearrange your bench. We may also get a free look at the VC loop which is super handy. What would I take to take the C off Tedesco? A big Papi ton!</p>



<p>In terms of strategy it’s as simple as trading if you need numbers and trading if you want a higher upside guy (who preferably plays round 18). But you can also sit back and let thing sunfold if you can put a decent squad out there without trading.</p>



<p>Clearys groin issue makes him an even more enticing sell and with injuries and the possibility of Terrell May/Koloamatangi getting the call up for game 3 all of a sudden Round 18 is looking tricky. Bear this in mind when making trades as it should be a focus.</p>

<p>1. Cleary &gt; Hughes</p>



<p>This leaves me $300k spare so I may look to do another upgrade but if I’m ok for numbers and Koloamatangi does play then I’ll sit and be ready to swoop next week on the likes of Kiraz &amp; Lehi Hopoate.</p>



<p>Other must haves for round 18 if you don’t own already include Eli Katoa, Tedesco, Papenhuyzen and I still like Drinkwater.</p>

<p><strong>Hudson Young – 9.7%</strong></p>



<p>He just sneaks in and I’m pretty tempted. The upside is clear however the downside is possible reduced minutes tonight, no round 18 or 19 and therefore could get 1.75 matches in between now and round 20. If you can buy and carry him through he is tantalising.</p>



<p><strong>Siosifa Talakai – 9.4%</strong></p>



<p>He could be back to the bench by round 19 and only get you 2 weeks or he could be a star for longer. It all hinges on Hiroti and when he returns and at what position. At a</p>



<p>cheaper price he is a nice flyer if you have trades/need to downgrade but only in those instances.</p>



<p><strong>Toby Couchman – 7.8%</strong></p>



<p>As per last weeks article I love this kid. I still prefer him in the middle although the edge sees him play 80 minutes. Plays rounds 18 and 19 after this weeks bye. One for next week or the week after.</p>

<p><strong>Tallis Duncan – 1.8%</strong></p>



<p>Can he continue on from his scores of 70 and 113. Plays the next 3 weeks including the major bye. Low break even means you may need to buy now but I’ll still consider him at $50-80k more next week if he continue to prove himself. Risky going early based on history and we are backing his small form bump to continue. A close watch v Melbourne.</p>



<p><strong>Reece Walsh – 1.3%</strong></p>



<p>He has been a tougher own this year and could play origin 3 potentially. But I tell you what Walsh at this ownership is interesting and covers round 18 and 19 if he misses Origin. One to go against for non Drinkwater owners perhaps? (I still prefer Drinkwater)</p>
