Watchlist, round 8: Rising and falling player stocks

What a round it was just gone! Well done if you took a punt on the likes of Steve Smith and Matt Short.



The Watchlist targets below are prioritised by points potential rather than value, so factor that in when considering your trade options.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Wicketkeepers</h2>



Matthew Wade – Hobart Hurricanes



Ben McDermott – Hobart Hurricanes (if available)



Alex Carey &#8211; Adelaide Strikers



No changes here. Unfortunately, Ben McDermott looks to have picked up a hamstring injury right as he was set to move up the order.



I’d prefer the extra game of Matty Wade over the POD option of Alex Carey.

Chaudhary looks the pick of the batters/allrounders for the Hurricanes double. He’s getting opportunity with bat and ball, and continues to show his talent at every opportunity.



Steve Smith went straight into cheat mode on his Big Bash return. Notably he plays the first game of round 9, making him an ideal loop option (VC if being aggressive, or emergency if being conservative).



Perhaps somewhat controversially I’m less keen on Matt Short after his blistering century. He didn’t bowl and D’Arcy Short was good with the ball, so there’s no immediate reason for this to change.

Removed: Dan Christian, Beau Webster, Mitch Marsh



George Garton bowled more overs than Dan Christian last match so looks a better pick. Hopefully Garton carries his UK T20 form (bowling S/R 14.3, batting ave 21 and S/R 142) into the BBL. He started well enough with 2 wickets.



Charlie Wakim is a cheapie option for anyone in need of one for the Hurricanes double. He’s close to bottom dollar and is batting in the top four.



Sam Konstas is still relatively cheap and presents a good loop option. I’d prefer to target him for the final round though.



Mitch Marsh is out until at least the final round. This is mostly relevant for Cooper Connolly, who could move a spot or two up the order.



Beau Webster has the bye so exits the Watchlist for now.

Removed: Jhye Richardson (injured)



Abbott showed his absolute class last round. He’s a perennial Supercoach gun and is in sublime form.



He does play at Adelaide Oval this round though, which was an absolute run fest in its most recent match.



For this reason, I’d still prefer the likes of Jason Behrendorff and Tom Rogers.
