Watchlist: Ranking every club's trade targets, Rd 5


<p>Each round this season, I’ll share a list of my trade targets, ranked in order of priority and value. </p>



<p>This season I’ve separated them out by team, to assist with trade planning double game and bye rounds. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Adelaide Strikers </strong></h2>

<p>Overton is probably the top target this week if you don’t already own. His price will continue to rise before the Strikers round 6 double.</p>



<p>Matt Short is an interesting one. If you don’t already own, he can afford to wait a week following a low score, which will stunt his cash growth. For non-owners, he could even be an anti-pod for the Strikers’ double, given he’ll be up against the gun Scorchers’ attack in both games. It would be bold, given what he can do, but if it comes off, would see a huge rise up the rankings. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Brisbane Heat </strong></h2>

<p>I’d lean towards Bartlett as the preferred option for the Heat now, provided you have a bowler spot available for him. He has landed an excellent role, bowling death and batting 7 more often than 8. He looks great on the eye test and has the stats to back it up.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Walter is still a buy for the Heat’s round 7 double, but can now wait a round or two, as his score of 5 will stunt his cash growth.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Hobart Hurricanes</strong></h2>

<p>A couple of cheap options at the Canes leading into their round 7 double. If McDermott plays he’s still great value. Although there is a bit of a log jam at the top of the order for the Canes, so I wonder if he comes back at no. 3 or 4.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Tim David is set to lose more cash and piqued interest when he bowled 3 overs last round. He didn’t bowl against the Stars but the match was reduced to 7 overs. For a player of his pedigree, sub $100k and possibly rolling the arm over, he’s appealing.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Melbourne Renegades</strong></h2>



<p>Nil</p>



<p>There is no interest from me in the Gades at the moment now that their doubles have passed. Sutherland could be worth a look again for the closing rounds, but teams with doubles are the priority for now.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Melbourne Stars</strong></h2>

<p>Maxwell is the best Stars and Captaincy option by the length of the straight now he’s back bowling. </p>



<p>However, Webster’s bowling credentials may have suffered as a result. The way the Stars line up, Webster could again end up sharing the 4th seamer role with Stoinis again, which may see him get a few extra overs; it’s a lottery, though. </p>

<p>His form with the bat this BBL (scores of 35, 59 and 4) has been solid enough that you could punt on him, but fading the Stars except for Maxwell and any your already own is probably the safest option.</p>



<p>At a cheaper price you could also look to Imad Wasim. His career T20 stats are handy (bowling strike rate 22.5 and economy rate 6.54, batting average 22.15 and strike rate 127.83. He only bowled the 3 overs last game, though, and could drop to 8 in the batting order following the Dan Lawrence signing.</p>



<p>Lawrence could be an option himself. Expected to open the batting, the England international averages 27 with the bat in T20 cricket, striking at 143. Solid numbers but it can be tough for internationals to adjust to Australian conditions straight away.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Steketee is the last option I’d consider from the Stars. He has been a gun in seasons gone by, but the last performance (0/43) that led to him getting dropped is concerning.</p>

<p>I’ve nearly added the whole Scorchers team! I won’t go into detail on them for this round, but with a bye, then back-to-back doubles, you can just about take your pick of any you like in preparation for rounds 6 and 7.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Sydney Sixers</strong></h2>

<p>Removed: Jack Edwards</p>



<p>I have no interest in any Sixers now, as Edwards has made most of his cash. Edwards will also likely take on a reduced role when Tom Curran returns in round 6.</p>

<p>With the next Thunder double not until round 9, we can look elsewhere now. Sams is the only one I’d consider. He could be a captaincy option if a Stars VC fails in game 1 of round 5.</p>
