Draft Breakdown: Round 2, waiver-wire targets


<p>Well…wasn’t that an interesting round 1.</p>



<p>A lot of things did not go as expected with most of the top draft picks flopping in the first round of the year.</p>



<p>Is this a sign of things to come or is this just round 1 clunkiness?</p>



<p>At times the games and ruck speed seemed really slow but there were still signs of 2021 game speed. For example, the Manly vs Panthers first half seemed very quick to me.</p>



<p>Is it time to go back to chasing base stat beasts? It’s too early to change strategies based off one round and I will still be chasing upside players. But the good base stat players may become relevant again this year.</p>



<p>Every week I will be looking at players still available in 65% of leagues. There may be better options still available in your league, but this article will be focusing on the players that are likely to be available in most leagues. Below are some good options for this week.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>WAIVER OPTIONS</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Dominic Young (CTW)</strong></p>



<p>Young scored 81 points playing on the right wing of the Knights (Ponga’s least preferred side) against the Roosters and looked great.</p>



<p>Clifford, who is also playing on the right side, looks like the dominant half and was using Young a lot.</p>



<p>Young racked up 30 points in base stats and had some nice tackle busting runs.</p>



<p><strong>Moses Suli (CTW)</strong></p>



<p>Suli has always shown glimpses of having the talent to be SuperCoach relevant, but has never maintained the consistency week to week.</p>



<p>He is coming off a particularly low average last year of 39 PPG as he played a number of games off the bench.</p>



<p>This is the year he becomes relevant!</p>



<p>Last week he scored 42 points and a massive 38 points in base stats. I was excited by how much the Dragons were giving him early ball and consistently designing plays for him when attacking the opposition&#8217;s line.</p>

<p><strong>Tom Starling (HOK)</strong></p>



<p>Starling is a great short-term play with Hodgson set to miss two weeks with a knee injury.</p>



<p>He will play big minutes (possibly 80) and will get some good attacking opportunities against the Cowboys this week and the Titans in round 3.</p>



<p><strong>Jeremiah Nanai (2RF)</strong></p>



<p>Nanai had a lot of wraps on him going into this season and he lived up to the hype in his first game.</p>



<p>He looked threatening with the ball and will rack up the attacking stats this year if he can hold the edge roll.</p>



<p>Matt Burton was a big body that did a great job on him, but he has the ability to run over the smaller halves of the competition.</p>



<p><strong>Kelma Tuilagi (2RF)</strong></p>



<p>Tuilagi played 71 minutes against the Storm and continued his good trial form</p>



<p>Minutes were a big worry heading into round 1, but I would be confident playing him now, especially with his attacking upside.</p>

<p><strong>Billy Walters (HOK/5-8)</strong></p>



<p>Billy managed to score 61 points with 43 points from base stats against Souths.</p>



<p>If named to partner Reynolds, he won’t let you down and will constantly take the line on with his running game.</p>



<p><strong>Corey Waddell (2RF)</strong></p>



<p>Waddell isn’t an exciting waiver and is very unlikely to get any attacking stats.</p>



<p>He does however have a great work ethic and he will score 50 points every week as long as TPJ is out.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Other options</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Matt Timoko</strong> &#8211; good work ethic and will see opportunities playing on the left.</p>



<p><strong>Sean O’Sullivan</strong> &#8211; short term play against the Dragons and Titans</p>



<p><strong>Tom Gilbert </strong>&#8211; played 75 minutes and had 61 in base stats with some time on the edge and the middle. I’m not convinced this will be the norm for him going forward, but keep an eye on him.</p>



<p><strong>Scott</strong> <strong>Drinkwater </strong>&#8211; good stash option, especially if Cowboys continue to lose.</p>
