Captain's Challenge: Round 19 skipper options

<p>I&#8217;m going a VC on Mansour, C on Smith. I&#8217;m out of trades and with Haas, Mann, Tesdesco and Macguire out I&#8217;m on wood for the 17th man anyway so have an opportunity for a  smoky VC shot.</p>



<p>As we come into the final rounds of the SuperCoach
season, captaincy choices can be the difference in winning your head-to-head
finals or making your overall goal of top 1,000 or whatever it may be.</p>



<p>I know our very own Timmy Williams will be sweating on
his captain choices as he looks to make a play from 7<sup>th</sup> this week.</p>



<p>It looks like another round with some nice options,
although rain is forecast for the weekend’s Sydney and Newcastle games.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Safety first </strong></h2>



<p><strong>Cameron Smith (HOK)</strong></p>



<p>Smith put up a monster score against the Cowboys last
week and comes up against the leaky Tigers on the dry Sunshine Coast.</p>



<p>He is averaging 77PPG for the season and could put some
serious holes through the Tigers, with the Storm pack starting to return from
injury and suspension.</p>



<p>I know the Tigers edge defence gets highlighted a lot, but I personally think their middle defence is equally vulnerable.</p>

<p>I have visions of RCG and Jurbo streaming through some
yawning gaps in the Tigers middle for a meat pie in the past few weeks and
Smith could pick them apart.</p>



<p>There’s also the added motivation of the ‘old bull’
coming up against the prodigy of Harry Grant.</p>



<p>You don’t think the guy that never wants to be rested,
always does extras and is looking to break all the records in the game, won’t
have a point to prove against the guy that is supposedly going to force him
into retirement.</p>



<p>I’m sure he’ll want to remind everyone that he still is the GOAT.</p>



<p><strong>Nathan Cleary (HFB)</strong></p>



<p>Cleary has been named to take on the Cowboys on a dry
track in Tamworth on Friday.</p>



<p>The Cowboys are leaking the most points to halves and are
competing with the Broncos as one of the worst defensive sides in the competition.</p>



<p>The only thing turning me off Cleary and why he is second
on this list is how popular he will be and concern about him being rested
during the game.</p>



<p>It should be noted that there is no solid evidence on the Cleary resting, just a few rumours, stay tuned for any news that comes out of their captain’s run today.</p>

<p><strong>Ryan Matterson (2RF)</strong></p>



<p>Matto is a 76PPG average edge back-rower running at the
second worst defence against back-rowers in the Broncos.</p>



<p>I know the Eels aren’t going great, but Matto isn’t going
to let you down with his base and does have potential to get some nice
attacking stats against the Broncos.</p>



<p>Rain is forecast for Friday’s game at Bankwest, which should
be a positive for Matto.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Risk it for the biscuit</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Tommy Trbojevic (FLB)</strong></p>



<p>Turbo is firming to play and could be a great POD captain
choice at home against the Titans.</p>



<p>The Titans are a different team to what they’ve been in
the past but Turbo loves playing them.</p>



<p>He has a whopping maximum score of 194, a minimum score
of 70 and an unbelievable average of 122PPG against the Titans.</p>



<p>Manly have been cautious with him to protect his hammy
but as many have said, they wouldn’t be risking him if they didn’t think he was
100% and he does have an amazing record coming back from injury as the Spy
pointed out in his article this week.</p>



<p><strong>Kalyn Ponga (FLB)</strong></p>



<p>It’s tough to get a read on Ponga this season as he is yo-yoing
a bit in SuperCoach scores.</p>



<p>He had a whopping 158 points against the Sharks before he
was rested last week.</p>



<p>In that Sharks game, I personally believe he didn’t get
quality ball, he just did it all himself with the small amount he had.</p>



<p>Adam O’Brien said Ponga gets a glint in his eye before
the game when he is on, so let’s hope he has that glint after a week’s rest.</p>



<p>The Dragons look like they have given up for the season
and can leak points if they are out of the contest and Ponga has an 84PPG
average against them.</p>



<p>Ponga is looking like another popular captain for SuperCoaches this week but I’m not sure I can trust him.</p>

<p><strong>Cameron Munster (5/8)</strong></p>



<p>Munster is coming up against the Tigers edge of Benji, BJ
and Nof and that is SuperCoach gold.</p>



<p>Despite his two tries last week, his role in the Storm
attack is becoming more of a distributor recently.</p>



<p>Having no Lil Papy in the team should encourage the voice
in his head that screams run everytime he gets the ball.</p>



<p>He is playing on a dry track and that Tigers edge is very
enticing.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Consensus</strong></h2>



<p>Ponga and Cleary are looking like the most popular
options this week.</p>



<p>I’m in a position where I will need to look for a POD
captain such as Turbo, Munster or Smith.</p>



<p>Again, whether you straight captain anyone depends on your
potential AE’s.</p>



<p>With Tom Ale playing this week and Ben Trbojevic looking
like he may get a bench spot, our VC loop-hole ability could be doomed.</p>
