<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Team news</h2>



The backline looks straight forward for Round 1, however the return of Taane Milne in Round 2 may throw a spanner in the works.



Siliva Havili is out for an extended period with injury, meaning Blake Taaffe and Peter Mamouzelos are the likely contenders for the 14 role, if they weren’t already.



I have Taaffe in front, which would see Damien Cook locked into an 80 minute role.



Edge back-rower Ben Lovett has impressed in the pre-season and will push for a bench spot.



Hame Sele is in doubt for the opening rounds, which should open up minutes for Davvy Moale.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">GUNS</h2>



Latrell Mitchell $889,100



The Rabbitohs horrific early season draw puts me off their attacking backline contingent.



While I’m avoiding Latrell for that reason, he proved last year that he’s fairly fixture proof and can score well against any opposition.



More to the point of avoiding him though is just the appeal of Tedesco and Turbo to me.



He’s in POD range at 16% ownership, but when I see the Rabbitohs draw compared to the Roosters starting against the Dolphins and Warriors I can’t make a case to go with Latrell.



He averaged 85 last season, and had tonnes against the Eels, Panthers, and scores of 99 against the Storm and Eels.



We know he has an enormous ceiling, with scores of 152 and 136 against the Warriors and Bulldogs. He went off after 62 minutes against the Warriors.



Immense…



I’m keen to avoid, but it may be the ultimate upside POD play early.



Campbell Graham $664,100 and Alex Johnston $713,200



Both these two will be high on my radar from Round 6 when South Sydney’s draw lightens up, but with their early fixtures I can’t make a strong case.



Keaon Koloamatangi $701,000



Koloamatangi averaged a very respectable 68 points last season, with an excellent 47 in base which shows he’s not completely attack reliant to be Supercoach relevant.



Two tonnes also shows he has a decent ceiling for a back-rower.



While he’ll be relevant at some stage, I think the high ceiling of Cam Murray is more appealing for just $50k more.

Cam Murray $749,200



It took Murray just one trial to remind Supercoaches of why he’s worth the high starting price.



He tore the Dragons apart in the Charity Shield and looked scintillating in combination with Damien Cook.



With South Sydney a touch light on for middle forwards, he can play around his 70 minutes per game as per last season.



He scored 50 in base, and has attacking upside as high as just about any other forward.



With all the quality mid-range 2RFs emerging I’ll likely avoid, but you won’t go too far wrong starting with Murray.



Damien Cook



Cook was outstanding in the Charity Shield, and also in 2022.



I do think though that he’s priced at his peak based on a 75 average last season, which has been around his career highs.



As good as he is, there’s are better hooking value plays early in the season for me.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">MID-RANGERS</h2>



Cody Walker $602,400



Cody is one I think is starting at genuine value to his starting price based on an underwhelming Supercoach average of 57 points.



In the seasons prior he averaged 84 and 74.



While I think he’s starting at value, I think that due to the tough early draw it may take some time to exceed his 2022 average and thus make money.



A sweeping Latrell Mitchell steals a lot of his try-assists and in turn Supercoach points.



He had 10 scores of sub 50 last season, including lows of 15, 10 and 17 which is hard reading.



One I’ll eye off hopefully at a similar or cheaper price from Round 6 onwards.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CHEAPIES</h2>



Izaac Thompson $336,700



While the draw obviously isn’t ideal, Thompson is one I like priced on a discounted average of around 32 points per game.



I think he has plenty of money to make, although it might be a slower burn due to the draw, and playing on South Sydney’s inferior right edge.



In his two games last season he had scores of 73 and 55. He scored in both, had six and four tacklebusts and 16 and 14 runs, that’s excellent reading.



His game is so conducive to Supercoach scoring and I think he’ll be a pretty safe play in 17s once the draw softens up, potentially even earlier.

Davvy Moale $234,800



Moale looks a nice slow burn cheapie to start the season, with Siliva Havili out for an extended period and Hame Sele in doubt for the early rounds.



They’ve been patient with his development, so hopefully he’s ready to leap into bigger minutes in 2023 after impressing in the trials.



He averaged 21 minutes per game last season, scoring at a promising enough 1.06 points per minute.



If he can bump up to 35+ minutes he should generate some decent enough coin.
