Check out our Round 17 AFL SuperCoach wrap, including the stars and strugglers, injured brigade, and suspensions.

AFL

Fire up!!
I had my second-best round ranking of the year, largely thanks to some absolute superstars all over the field.

Nick Daicos (99) is exceptional, as was George Hewett (123), but it was amazing to see Scott Pendlebury (110) moved into the midfield when the Pies needed him most.

Luckily, I avoided the Lachie Neale (89) skipper disasterclass by taking Touk Miller’s (135) VC score, but it was impossible to escape the clutches of a terrifying (Vecna resembling) (Stranger Things Season 4 reference) 62 from Josh Dunkley. I’ll be having nightmares about that for weeks now.

All in all, it was an amazing week for Elite Dadds, moving up 2688 rankings to 10,244th after a score of 2457.

After back-to-back 80’s, Callum Mills (138) knew he was on the chopping block from yours truly, so he pulled his act together and delivered a 16-tackle masterclass to take out this week’s GOAT Medal.

Anyway, let’s get into the recap!

Geelong v Melbourne

Boy oh boy wowee!! With this incredible win, Geelong now move into first and the Dees go back to second; however, I still think Melbourne are the clear premiership favourites, but it was good to see the old Cats get the win in a thriller.

Mitch Duncan (117) was eve-ry-where. He took a game-high 11 marks, had 32 touches, kicked two goals, and scored his second ton in a row. He provides some great value in the forward line if he can maintain this seagull role.

Cam Guthrie (119) and Tom Atkins (119) were dominant in the middle of the ground, and Paddy Dangerfield (114) returned to his absolute best (and typical self, kicking 0.4).

Zach Tuohy (103) capitalised on the absence of Tom Stewart, collecting 7 marks and 14 kicks.

Jack Viney (133) and Clayton Oliver (124) were incredible, but a hand injury in the last quarter (that has since been confirmed as a broken thumb) will be a major worry for Oliver owners going into Round 18.

Christian Petracca (91) kicked 3 goals and had 21 touches but couldn’t quite replicate his massive score from last week.

Max Gawn (98) came back from injury to play a decent game, but he had a severe impact on Luke Jackson (65).

Injuries – Clayton Oliver broken his thumb and is in doubt to play in Round 18

Reports – nil.

Sydney v Western Bulldogs

And just like that, last year’s Grand Finalist look like they won’t be playing finals footy this year.

After back-to-back 80’s, Callum Mills (138) bounced back largely due to an INSANE 16 tackles!!

The veteran, Sam Reid (109), had 15 touches, all of which were contested possessions. He also racked up 13 tackles playing in the ruck after Peter Ladhams (46) was subbed off in the second quarter.

Jake Lloyd’s (106) rollercoaster year continues, but he’s currently got a three-round average of 114 so if you’re looking to buy, he’s in the form to warrant a purchase.

Paddy McCartin (108) was a brick wall in defence, taking 14 marks on his way to his highest score of his career.

Luke Parker (113) and Chad Warner (108) were elite all day long, as were Tom Papley (128) and Isaac Heeney (112) who kicked 2.5 and 4 goals respectively.

Adam Treloar (94) was moved to hall-back and relished the opportunity, collecting 32 touches and 5 marks.

Tim English (97) returned from concussion with a solid score, but my heart goes out for those who brought in Bailey Dale (76) who was tagged by Ryan Clarke for majority of the game.

Jack Macrae (100) and Marcus Bontempelli (101) were good without being great, but Josh Dunkley (62) had a verryyy off day.

Injuries – Peter Ladhams was subbed off with a thumb injury. Anthony Scott was subbed off with concussion.

Reports – Tom Papley was reported for a high bump on Josh Dunkley.

Collingwood v North Melbourne

Surprisingly, what was tipped to be one of the worst games of the round turned out to be one of the best thanks to a terrific comeback from the Pies.

Jamie Elliot (99) was the spark the Pies needed throughout the game, kicking two goals to go along with his 20 touches and 7 marks.

When the game was on the line, Scott Pendlebury (110) was moved into the midfield and spurred his team onto victory in the second half.

The Daicos brothers, Nick (99) and Josh (96) are certainly making a case for the best brother duos in the game. Desperately needing a goal in the last quarter, Josh gets the ball out of the pack and handballs to Nick who struts into the forward pocket and absolutely drains it from 40 out on the boundary. Stars.

Steele Sidebottom (97) and Darcy Cameron (93) continue their upwards trend, but Jack Crisp (77) now has a three-round average of 78.7…

On debut, Josh Carmichael (54) was solid, but he’s got competition from Finlay Macrae who is knocking on the door.

Luke Davies-Uniacke (149) played one of the most complete games of the season, racking up 33 touches, 5 marks, and 11 tackles on his way to a monster score.

Jed Anderson (135), Todd Goldstein (120), and Jy Simpkin (105) were all great in the middle.

Nick Larkey (109) booted 5.1.

Injuries – Taylor Adams (concussion), Jaidyn Stephenson (soreness)

Reports – nil.

Gold Coast v Richmond

WHAT. A GAME. Richmond thought they were safe and sound, but Charlie Ballard pulled off one of the best hustle plays of the year, and Noah Anderson was ICE COLD!!

Take a bow, Noah Anderson (154), you are a star. 26 touches, 9 marks, 7 tackles, 2 goals, AND THE GAME WINNER AFTER THE SIREN. He is the future of the comp.

Ben Ainsworth (123) took 14 marks and was pivotal off half forward.

Touk Miller (135) had THIRTEEN clearances, largely thanks to Jarrod Witts’ (117) dominant ruck performance.

Brandon Ellis (128) and Jack Bowes (102) were elite off half back.

Daniel Rioli (129) continues to take advantage Jayden Short’s (95) absence from the defence, as did Shai Bolton (162) in the middle without Dusty.

It would’ve been an unfortunate night for Toby Nankervis (37). Commiserations.

Injuries – Malcom Rosas (hamstring), Tom J. Lynch (hamstring), Ivan Soldo (soreness)

Reports – nil.

St. Kilda v Fremantle

Geeeez the Saints really needed to win this won to further boost their finals chances, but now they drop to 9th, equal on points with the Tigers.

Since returning from injury, Jack Steele (109) has shown no signs of slowing down; and all year long, Jack Sinclair (110) continues to improve.

Rowan Marshall (93) had a MONSTROUS last quarter, but for as long as Paddy Ryder (44) is in the team, Marshall unfortunately isn’t a safe pick.

Brad Crouch (108) and Seb Ross (89) were solid in midfield.

Andrew Brayshaw (132) would have to up there with the Brownlow Medal favourites at the moment, he is having an incredible year. He had 36 touches, 6 marks, 10 tackles, and even kicked a goal.

Will Brodie (88) and Caleb Serong (86) were good without being great, as was Nat Fyfe (96) who actually shifted to on-ball during the third quarter and ultimately got his team over the line in the end.

Sean Darcy (111) posted his third 110+ score in a row thanks to two goals and 27 hit outs. He’s got a great run of fixtures coming up if you’re looking for a ruckman.

Injuries – nil.

Reports – nil.

Port Adelaide v GWS

Port keep their season alive with a HUGE win!!

Connor Rozee (154) was outstanding, collecting 24 touches, 6 marks, 5 tackles, and 4 goals.

Zac Butters (96) was prolific in his return game but had a big impact on Ollie Wines’ (69) performance.

Sam Powell-Pepper (88) recorded a triple-double with 14 kicks, 11 handballs, and 10 marks, while Kane Farrell (88) was elite off the wing.

With brand new RUC status, Jeremy Finlayson (111) could definitely be sneaky option if you’re looking for a risk.

Jase Burgoyne (68) did enough in his second game to keep his spot, and he’s now on the bubble if you’re looking for a rookie.

Stephen Coniglio (113) continues to accumulate a heap of the footy, as does the rest of the GWS midfield with Tim Taranto (109) and Josh Kelly (110) all scoring well.

However, Tom Green (50) and Lachie Whitfield (46) were incredibly quiet all night long, and it’s safe to say that Jacob Wehr (46) has hit the rookie wall – now is the time to trade.

Adding DEF status to his name, Harry Himmelberg (98) just became a whole lot more SuperCoach relevant

Injuries – Adam Kennedy (concussion), Phil Davis (hamstring)

Reports – Isaac Cumming (sling tackle)

Brisbane v Essendon

The Bombers really capitalised on the Lions’ covid outbreak during the week!! What a win.

From a SuperCoach perspective, the Lions were irrelevant in this game, with only one ton coming the way of Oscar McInerny (115).

Not even Lachie Neale (89) could shrug off a tag, and Jarryd Lyons (80) certainly didn’t pick up the slack.

Jimmy Tunstill (17) was incredibly disappointing in his first game off the bubble.

Zach Merrett (147) was extra piggy without Darcy Parish in the side, racking up 31 touches, 5 marks, and 8 tackles.

Jye Caldwell (121) played maybe the best game of his career to nullify Lachie Neale’s performance, while Jordan Ridley (103) came back from the dead to remind SuperCoaches of his scoring ability.

Peter Wright (118) and Kyle Langford (107) combined for 9 goals.

Ben Hobbs (56) was solid, and coaches may be dependent on him this week as cover for Clayton Oliver.

Injuries – Massimo D’Ambrosio (corkie)

Reports – nil.

Hawthorn v Adelaide

MY HAWKSSSSSS LETS GOOOOOO.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… There is no bigger game than the middle game on a Sunday arvo, and the Hawks have only gone and won it.

Dylan Moore (135) was superb all day long, and even attended some centre bounces!!

Blake Hardwick (133), James Sicily (92), Jack Scrimshaw (94), and CJ (89) were all colossal down back, as was Mitch Lewis (119) up forward who had 5 goals by half time.

Conor Nash (108), JOM (86), and Tom Mitchell (102) were all solid in the middle.

Rory Laird (125) is absolutely ridiculous – he picked up just another 42 touches if you don’t mind.

Ben Keays (102) and Matt Crouch (100) were both productive on-ball, as was ROB (106) in the ruck.

Jordan Dawson (80) was tagged all day by Finn Maginness (70), but that allowed Brodie Smith (119) to get his fair share of the footy on half back.

Injuries – nil.

Reports – nil.

West Coast v Carlton

A topsy-turvy first half saw Carlton blow out to a 34-0 lead at quarter time, only for the Eagles to score 7 goals in the second quarter and bring it back to 45-54. Ultimately though, Carlton proved to be way too good, and ran out to win by 63 points.

Shannon Hurn (130) and his old ass body continue to pump out strong performance’s week in week out, while Andrew Gaff (118) wound back the clock with 30 touches and 8 marks.

Matthew Kennedy (116), Adam Cerra (103), George Hewett (123), Sam Walsh (88) and Patrick Cripps (92) dominated the midfield battle, as Sam Docherty (131) was elite down back with 28 touches and 8 marks.

The Twin Towers, Charlie Curnow (142) and Harry Mackay (109) combined for 10.6 against an amateur Eagles’ defence.

Injuries – Matt Taberner subbed off in the last with a soft tissue injury. Lachie Jones subbed off in the third with a hammy injury.

Reports – nil.
