Captain’s Corner: Round 17, skippers to target and avoid

The Charlie Dadds runs the rule over the best AFL SuperCoach captaincy and vice-captaincy options to consider.

AFL

Oh, captain my captain!!

Jack Viney (133) and Clayton Oliver (124) were extremely serviceable last night, but I still think there are better options out there this weekend.

Max Gawn (98) and Christian Petracca (91) were underwhelming, so unlucky if you decided to VC them.

Anyway, Round 17 is underway, and it’s time to look at some captains!

Touk Miller

The clear and obvious VC option for me this week I reckon, especially coming off a massive score last week. He has a 167 and a 153 in his last four games and plays the Tigers this week who give up a heck of a lot of points to opposition midfielders. Touk is one of the hardest running in the comp, so expect him to rack up heaps of touches all over the ground – the Tigers won’t be able to keep up with him.

Lachie Neale

By far and away the #1 captain choice this week, and here’s why… First of all, he’s in a terrific run of form with 123, 111, and 135 in his last three. Second of all, the Bombers are one of his favourite teams to EVER play against. Against Essendon in his career, he’s scored 198, 157, 157, 140, 96, 119, 147, 93, 138, and 133… And that’s dating back all the way since 2015. Lock him in

Rory Laird + Jordan Dawson

It’s really hard to ignore these two who have taken their respective games to another level this season, now turning themselves into genuine captain options week in week out. Laird has only dropped under 110 once since Round 4, and he has three 130+ scores in his last four games, including a 156. Dawson is similar, with three 130+ scores in a ROW… Now, they come up against the Hawks who are one of the easiest teams to score against this season, and Laird and Dawson are going to have an absolute dream day.

Laird last 3 vs Hawthorn: 178, 111, 102

Dawson last 3 vs Hawthorn: 73, 78, 104
