Seeing Double: SC prospects with double lives, Stars

What a start to the BBL season it’s been.



Getting off to a great start isn’t everything in BBL SuperCoach &#8211; there’s still plenty of ways to make up ground, and this article is designed to help you navigate the double game weeks and byes coming up.



Before we dive into the candidates, a bit of context on my DGW theory.



Choosing how many to have in your team comes down to a couple of things, namely their schedule after the DGW (Double Game Week) and how many of those players you’d be confident featuring on field in a SGW (Single Game Week).



At a minimum you’d want at least three DGW players on field, while an ideal number &#8211; provided you’ve planned well and they meet the criteria above &#8211; can be six or seven.



At its most basic, look who is the best batter and best bowler from the team on the DGW and get them into your team.

Round 3 DGW: Melbourne Stars vs Thunder (Sydney Showground), Sixers (MCG)



BYE: Adelaide Strikers



Background: The heavily depleted Stars got smacked in record fashion in Round 1 but it hasn’t taken long for them to bounce back with a solid win against the Sydney Thunder.



Marcus Stoinis, Nathan Coulter-Nile as well as Internationals Qais Ahmed and Andre Russell are all now available, and adding in some decent form shown from locals Larkin and Cartwright, they suddenly loom as a top team.



These two match-ups loom as probably the hardest DGW you could face, with the Thunder and Sixers arguably the two best sides. 



We also have the unknown of how the Sydney Showground will play &#8211; recommend strongly you watch how the pitch plays on Saturday night between the Strikers and Scorchers &#8211; whereas the MCG is now a much improved surface. 



Knowing the Strikers have the bye followed by the Sixers in round 4, you should use them as your trade outs and get yourself three blokes in green.



Best bat: Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell



Best bowler: Adam Zampa



Top picks: Andre Russell, Stoinis, Maxwell, Zampa, NCN, Qais Ahmed, Joe Clarke



POD picks: Nick Larkin (1.9%), Joe Clarke (8%)

Marcus Stoinis &#8211; BAT/BWL



He missed the first game and is unlikely to bowl this tournament as he recovers from another side strain, but Stoinis looked good in his return on Friday night before an unfortunate run out. 



He is arguably underpriced and will lose a little cash from his starting price and it would be brave to fade him in the DGW. Likely to be the most popular captain choice.



Glenn Maxwell &#8211; BAT/BWL



A match winner. Four Supercoach tons last season and three single-digit scores. Again, a scary prospect not to own &#8211; perhaps the scariest. Don’t be too worried about his slow start to the season. On his day, Maxi can win games on his own and could be a hold for the remainder of the season if you’re picking him up this round.



Adam Zampa – BWL



A rare down performance in the first round, along with a below par SuperCoach score in Round 2, will see a reduction in price for Zampa right as we start Round 3. Zampa is as reliable as they come &#8211; his average throughout the last season sat between 52 and 68 for the whole tournament. He’s in 26% of squads already compared with 60% for Maxwell.

Andre Russell &#8211; BAT/BWL



The West Indian legend will fill a huge void for the Stars. Round 2 showed us he has a pretty incredible role for SuperCoach, albeit his bowling form was just okay. 



Russell hasn’t played in the Big Bash since the &#8216;surge&#8217; was brought in, and is already one of the best finishers in world cricket. The prospect of him facing up to 12 balls with the field up is scary &#8211; he could legitimately hit 40+ runs in that time on his own. Add in death bowling, and he’s a smart pick and a guy who could be reached via trading Rashid Khan.



Nathan Coulter-Nile – BWL



The forgotten man. Had a brilliant season last year when he was fit, but fitness remains an on-going concern. His overall price is inflated by his 169 point game in round 1 so he comes at a premium, but he will have low-ownership. He looked good with two wickets in round 2, but may be managed given the short turn around between games.

<ul><li>Qais Ahmed, BWL: the second spinner, and can be wicket-taker on his day.</li><li>Joe Clarke, BAT/WKT: Looks a decent player but clearly has a license to attack around Stoinis which can lead to low returns. A great price.</li><li>Nick Larkin, BAT: Always at low ownership, Larkin showed good poise against the Thunder at the MCG to top score with a half-century. Will be available at a good price and bats in the top four which is ideal.</li></ul>
