NFL Supercoach | Best Cheapie WRs + TEs


<p>Leading on from my last cheapie article, where I discussed the best cheapie Quarterbacks and Running Backs, let&#8217;s get into the rest of the positions&#8230;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Wide Receiver</strong></h2>



<p>There is a host of talent in the cheapies category for this year&#8217;s wide receivers. </p>



<p>From promising rookies to vets on the rebound, coaches can go in a number of directions and play on the upside of many players. </p>



<p>Beware, though: if you fall behind at this position and pick the wrong guys, you will be in for a long season. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Carnell Tate ($4.9m, Tennessee Titans, BE 7, 60% ownership)</strong></h3>



<p>Tate is the must-have cheapie receiver this year. He immediately walks into the Titans as WR1 and will be leaned upon by 2nd-year signal caller Cam Ward to help take him to the next level.</p>



<p>Tate is a vertical threat down the field and has been compared to Devonta Smith but taller, and more explosive than Tee Higgins. </p>



<p>Drawing comparisons to players like this should have coaches&#8217; eyes lighting up at the upside.</p>



<p>Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator should also bode well for the young receiver. Daboll is a passing game mastermind and will be eager to prove himself after a failed coaching tenure with the Giants. </p>



<p>He’ll surely look to use his flashy new toys in Tate and Ward to bring some reputability back to his name.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Makai Lemon ($4.7m, Philadelphia Eagles, BE 7, 37% ownership)</strong></h3>



<p>Lemon has landed in an ideal situation in Philly. The Eagles are headed in a new direction offensively, and he easily slots into the WR2 position after the departure of AJ Brown to the Pats. </p>



<p>Philly has the potential to be one of the most potent offences and will be keen to prove the haters wrong after a down year last year, given their recent history. </p>



<p>Lemon is a precision route runner and should see plenty of production in the slot this season. </p>



<p>His toughness stands out as well and is always looking for more yards by fighting for extra yards in contact or simply trying to just tackle to keep driving forward. </p>



<p>He’s coming off of a 1156 yard season in 12 games with 11 TD’s for USC, where he averaged just shy of 15 yards per reception. If he can replicate that in the slot with Philly, we could see an Egbuka-type price rise from last season.</p>



<p>I wouldn’t be worried about the report of drops during camp. He’s admitted himself that he needs to be better and is aware of it. </p>



<p>Jamar Chase also had this issue in the preseason of his rookie year, then went on to have almost 1500 receiving yards. Not saying he’s the same; however, sometimes it&#8217;s good to not read into preseason too much.</p>



<p><strong>Verdict: Target</strong></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Jordyn Tyson ($4.85m, New Orleans Saints, BE 7, 29% ownership) </strong></h3>



<p>To see a guy be owned by almost 1/3 of coaches despite being put on injured reserve, meaning he can’t play for at least the first 4 weeks, is crazy. </p>



<p>Tyson is in a crazy good situation as WR2 behind Chris Olave and is the beneficiary of receiving from exciting young 2nd-year QB Tyler Shough, but he’s also injured!</p>



<p>Tyson will be on my roster at some point during the year, as he will make cash, but when there are so many other options who will make money from the start of the season in what I think is the most important position in Supercoach, I really think you’re doing a disservice by starting with him. </p>



<p>When Tyson does eventually get activated and starts playing games, I’ll be downgrading a cheapie to him and upgrading a mid-range prospect to someone top-tier for sure, but this won’t be happening for at least 6 weeks, as it’s more than likely he won’t have an immediate impact once he’s activated. </p>



<p><strong>Verdict: Fade until he’s healthy!!!</strong></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>KC Concepcion ($4.65m, Cleveland Browns, BE 7, 27% ownership) and Denzel Boston ($4.45m, Cleveland Browns, BE 7, 4% ownership)&nbsp;</strong></h3>



<p>I’m finding these guys the hardest of the cheapies to categorise. KC is a 1st round receiver and incredibly talented, but he’s also on the Browns and has Deshaun Watson throwing the ball to him. </p>



<p>Denzel is a 2nd round receiver who’s incredibly talented but… You get the gist </p>



<p>Concepcion is looking like he has the potential to be a great slot receiver in the NFL. If I do go with one of these 2 receivers, I’m slightly more tempted to grab KC purely for the fact he should see a higher volume of targets in the slot. </p>



<p>Boston projects as a big-bodied deep receiver similar to Mike Evans, so could be a red-zone sweetheart. The problem there is the Browns getting to the red-zone.</p>



<p>I actually like what the Browns have done over the last 2 years on offence, player-wise, except for QB. </p>



<p>QB will be the reason why these lads don’t do well this year, but I’m thinking it’s worth taking a punt on one of them, and if you do, that guy is KC</p>



<p><strong>Verdict: Target KC, fade Denzel</strong></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>De’Zhaun Stribling ($4.5m, San Fran 49ers, BE 7, 21% ownership)&nbsp;</strong></h3>



<p>Stribling is a name who has been thrown around in the preseason as well for standout performances in camp. </p>



<p>He’s quickly becoming a serious part of this team due to the injuries to others at the position.</p>



<p>As it stands, he’s the WR3 on this team and will primarily play out of the slot. </p>



<p>Stribling is someone who is on my radar as he’s a slot receiver on a genuinely good football team. </p>



<p>I’m excited to see what Shanahan cooks up for him in the slot to help utilise his unique combo of size and speed</p>



<p><strong>Verdict: Target</strong></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Matthew Golden ($5.67m, Green Bay Packers, BE 9, 8% ownership) and Luther Burden ($8.94m, Chicago Bears, BE 14, 10% ownership)</strong></h3>



<p>Golden and Burden are both entering year 2 in the same division, and both have huuuuuge upside. </p>



<p>Golden was arguably the most disappointing player of last season despite having all the hype coming out of camp. </p>



<p>Burden had a fairly decent first season and is on his way to possibly surpassing Rome Odunze as the WR1 for the Bears.</p>



<p>Plenty of receivers have left Green Bay this year, and with uncertainty in the backfield, they could look to adopt an even heavier passing game. </p>



<p>Golden will be playing on the outside as the 3rd receiver on this team and doesn’t really have much competition behind him this year. Last. </p>



<p>The Packers have lost Doubs and Wicks, and from that, it is now his time to shine for the Packers. </p>

<p>Burden has had some injury concerns with his groin in the preseason but appears to be fully healthy for week 1. </p>



<p>For the last 7 games of the year, Burden started to see an uptick in production and saw at least 5 targets per game. He’ll be looking to continue this form and connection with Caleb Williams. </p>



<p>A WR2 for sub $10m in one of the league&#8217;s projected best passing attacks is exciting stuff. I am wary of Loveland taking targets away from him, which is something for everyone to take into consideration. </p>



<p>I prefer Golden here purely because he’s $4m cheaper than Burden, but both are high on my list of players to have. </p>



<p>The beauty of SC is if Golden does nothing the first few weeks, I will look to move him to another receiver of similar value who is producing and making cash!</p>



<p><strong>Verdict: Target both</strong></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Tight End</strong></h2>



<p>Almost an afterthought position outside of the top 3-5. I think everyone&#8217;s goal with this position is to generate cash to help get you Bowers and McBride for the season as quickly as possible. </p>



<p>Here are a few guys who could potentially do that.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Isaiah Likely ($5.59m, New York Giants, 9 BE, 45% ownership)</strong></h3>



<p>If there is one thing you take away from this piece, it’s that you absolutely must have Likely in your team to start the year. </p>



<p>This guy is one of the most exciting prospects at TE in the game. </p>



<p>Likely has followed Harbaugh from Baltimore, and you’d expect his former coach to use his talents to help kick-start his organisation. </p>



<p>He’s had some monster games in his time and was always a playable option in draft leagues when Mark Andrews wasn’t playing in Baltimore. </p>



<p>If there’s one guy that has a proper chance of matching it with McBride and Bowers this year, it’s Likely, I’m that high on him.</p>



<p><strong>Verdict: TARGET</strong></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Kenyon Sadiq ($4.75m, New York Jets, BE 7, 42% ownership)&nbsp;</strong></h3>



<p>He’s uber talented and will most likely be one of the premier TE’s in the league in the next few years, but I’m not confident in picking a guy catching balls from Geno Smith. </p>



<p>It’s always good to avoid players on awful teams, and Sadiq is on an awful team.</p>



<p>Given the guy above is slightly more expensive, has more experience, and has a better team, I’d be targeting him over Sadiq. </p>



<p>I’m happy to have egg on my face if he goes out and performs from the get-go, but at this point I’m happy to look elsewhere. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Mark Andrews ($7.81m, Baltimore Ravens, BE 12, 7% ownership)&nbsp;</strong></h3>



<p>At the price, I can see the appeal. If the Ravens and Lamar bounce back like people think they will, then Andrews will be relied upon heavily by his QB in the red zone and as a receiver in general, given the lack of depth in the WR room this year. </p>



<p>Andrews finished as the 16th-ranked TE, which was largely in part due to only 3 games against the Lions, Dolphins, and the Browns. </p>



<p>Outside of that, he ranked below the top 20 in 11 out of his 17 games. </p>



<p>Yes, Lamar was injured, but Andrews is also an ageing 31 year old in a team with a new identity. I’ll be watching the first 2 weeks, but I’m happy to see him fade away.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Kicker and Defence</strong></h2>



<p>There are only really 2 guys you should be looking at, kicking-wise, in Smack and Bass. </p>



<p>They’re both playing in teams that should score plenty of points. </p>



<p>All other kickers in the top teams, bar the Eagles, are above $10m, so this should help a lot with not only point scoring but dividing that extra money up amongst other positions.</p>



<p>Defensively, the Cowboys have improved so much this year and, at such a low price, should generate cash on your bench. </p>



<p>I think it’s worthwhile investing in a top defence this year, so having the Cowboys to generate cash on the side is a must.</p>
