NFL Supercoach | Buy, Hold, Sell, Week 9

Well, this week officially marks the halfway mark in the season, and I, for one, have once again gone through a tumultuous up-and-down week of SuperCoach in week 8. Watching Golden pop off whilst Watson was off injured hurt me after binning him for Washington, who ended up stinking it up in a dominant performance by the Jags.

I scored 510, which saw me rise up almost 600 more rankings to just outside of the top 3000. The other trades I made for Coleman and McBride paid off as well, even though I didn’t play Coleman. Tuten on the bench hurt, and I’ll be looking to play him most weeks going forward after gassing him up in last week’s article.

With the Steelers and Titans on a bye this week, there shouldn’t be too many teams missing key players. It does, however, mean players from the Texans, Saints, Giants, and 49ers are back and available for the rest of the year. Let’s dive into who you should get in your team this week

Embed from Getty Images

Buy

Jonah Coleman (RB Denver Broncos, $7.03m, -17 BE, 13% ownership)

The rookie sensation showed that he can be the No.1 back for this team after scoring the match-winner against the Chiefs whilst racking up 41 yards on 11 carries and 63 receiving yards on 4 receptions. Coleman saw his snap count increase from 49% of offensive snaps to 66 and is still only 2 weeks post coming off of the IR. It’s safe to assume we’ll continue to see a big uptick in this.

There’s speculation that the Broncos will trade for JT from the Colts; however, I’m not too phased if that happens. And that is a huge if. Payton is known for running one of the best ground games in the NFL and would be able to carve out a role for both backs if so. With Harvey on IR, Coleman gets a chance to show why he’s the premiere pass-catching back on the team, a role he wouldn’t lose if Taylor were to arrive in Denver. Coleman is a legit playable option against the Panthers this week; watch this space.

Bhaysel Tuten (RB Jacksonville Jaguars, $16.22m, -22 BE, 34% ownership)

Tuten is back on the list as I truly believe if you don’t have him, you will regret it by the end of the season. Tuten showed in his first game of the Jags’ upcoming easy schedule that he can carry this team. The Colts were obliterated by Tuten and the run game.

The Ravens will be out to prove a point this week, but I feel the Jags are too good, and we will see yet another dominant performance by Tuten. With a -22 BE, this truly could be the last time we see him at this price this season, something I’ve said multiple times at lower prices throughout the season to date.

Embed from Getty Images

Higgins and Chase (WR’s, Cincinnati Bengals, both low $19m, 2% and 39% ownership)

Many people have asked the question this week. Is it crazy to run with 2 receivers from the same team? The answer is no. Look at Green Bay with Golden and Watson this year, and last year the Rams with Adams and Puka. All 3 of these teams are or have been high-octane passing offences whose QB’s aren’t afraid to air it out. They also hate running and would prefer to stay in the pocket and throw.

I think it’s a truly viable option to have both receivers in your team and if you have trades to do so do it. They’ve had their bye and will be playable for the rest of the year. Chase had his 1st 100-yard game for the year after dealing with injuries, and Higgins is the 4th best scoring WR in SuperCoach. If I had to pick one, I’d still go with Chase, as he is the TD merchant and will eventually finish above Higgins by season’s end.

Mike Evans (WR San Fran 49ers, $14.74m, 6 BE, 3% ownership)

Call me crazy, but Evans healthy could be the biggest POD at WR for the remainder of the year if healthy. And that’s a huge IF on health. Set to return this week after a bye and exiting during the 1st half of their game against the Commanders, Evans is looking to put a lingering rib injury and Achilles injury behind him and continue to be the focal point of this 49ers offense. As soon as Evans exited the game, the team completely tanked and changed. Evans is such a crucial part to the success of this team doing forward.

I’m quite scared about his injury history; however, if you’re looking for a high-upside risk player, I think Evans is your guy. I stupidly sold Golden over Collins last week, and at this point Golden is the only other receiver $15m or under not named Evans that I like.

Prior to his injury, Evans was seeing an uptick in production and had amassed 94 receiving yards in the first half of the Commanders game before heading off, which would’ve seen successive 100-yard games from the big WR. As I said, this is an incredibly risky pick; however, there is huge upside if he can stay healthy for the remainder of the season.

Embed from Getty Images

George Kittle (TE San Fran 49ers, $15.85m, 26 BE, 6% ownership)

Outside of Likely, McBride, and Bowers, this is the guy to own. Kittle is slowly getting back to his old self, and we aren’t seeing any signs of the Achilles injury from last season. With no Evans or Samuel, Kittle is the best receiving option in San Fran. Even when those guys are around, Kittle produces. With a fully healthy team, Kittle was averaging around 36 PPG. I like him at this price and actually prefer him over Likely going forward.

With Bowers and McBride both set to face byes in the coming weeks, Kittle rears his head as a potential POD hit upside TE. The 49ers will play the Giants in Bowers bye week and the Rams in McBride’s, 2 games he very well could score TDs in back-to-back. Kittle is a favourite of Purdy and shouldn’t be dismissed as an option.

Hold

Ollie Gordon (RB Miami Dolphins, $13.25m, BE 19, 12% ownership)

If you decided to take on Ollie Gordon despite all of our advice, no dramas. He’s made some decent cash and may appear to be a solid trade option, but I’d be keen to hold for a few more weeks. The Phins play the Lions, Colts, Bills, and Jets in the next few weeks, who are all below-average defences. The Lions have just lost their star middle linebacker and are even weaker, which should see him hit his BE of 19.

He may not be a start option, but he is a candidate to make you cash on the bench and hopefully rise to that $16-17m mark with a few decent performances in the 30s. Save the trade and sell after the Jets.

Embed from Getty Images

Jonathon Taylor (RB Indianapolis Colts, $20.15m, BE 54, 11% ownership)

Times are tough in Indy; there’s no doubt about it, but there is one certainty. Taylor is the best chance this team has to stay in games currently. There’s plenty of chatter around whether or not the star back will be traded before the November 10 deadline, and it’s for that reason, amongst a few others, that I’d be keeping him. For now. Besides that fact, the Colts are playing the Cowboys this week.

A team that just allowed veteran journeyman Tyler Allgeier to score 66 points against them. A team that lost to the previously winless Bucs, led by a rookie undrafted QB and 3rd-year RB Bucky Irving, who happened to score 61 points in the SuperCoach arena.

The Colts face the Dolphins the week after, and there’s a world where JT scores a truckload of points in back-to-back weeks, or he gets shipped off to a Super Bowl contender and becomes a must-buy. Either way, I like the risk of keeping him this week and banking on the Cowboys being the Cowboys.

Carnell Tate (WR Tennessee Titans, $9.74m, 2 BE, 46% ownership)

A single-digit receiver. On a bye. Who won’t lose. You cash. Keep him on your bench and wait to see if he’s out for an extended amount of time next week. Even if he isn’t, stash him on the bench. He isn’t realistically going to help many people upgrade to better players, so there’s no point in getting rid of a guy who will continue to make you cash.

Embed from Getty Images

Isaiah Likely (TE NY Giants, $14.98m, 28 BE, 48% ownership)

If we’ve learnt anything this year, it’s don’t panic on Likely. He will go down as my most regrettable trade of the year by far. Give McCarthy time; he’s in a much better headspace and role in the Big Apple. Likely is a key factor to this team’s success, and coach Harbaugh isn’t going to not involve him.

With byes to Bowers and McBride fast approaching, he is a must stash. I can only see some sort of benefit to him being traded out if you are moving to Kittle as a POD otherwise, keep him.

Sell

Every Baltimore Ravens Player

*Since time of writing, the Baltimore Ravens have signed Jacoby Brissett, who won’t play this week but is expected to take over as starter the following week. This improves the season-long prospects of Henry and Flowers especially, but still probable sells.

Rather than list out Lamar, Henry and Flowers, I’ll put them all together. This isn’t the year for the Ravens, and it’s starting to quickly become worrying for the fans, organisation, and SuperCoach/ fantasy players. Lamar can’t stay healthy, and without him and now backup Tyler Huntley, the Ravens’ season is all but over. Flowers produced a donut after finally seeing success for the first time in a season. If Huntley were available, I’d be comfortable with running with Flowers, but for now you must get rid of him when he has a 3rd string rookie QB throwing to him.

Lamar is obvious, as he is on IR and most likely out for the season. Henry is a tougher sell but still necessary. Opposing teams will stack the box and dare the Ravens to air it out or make Henry try and run through entire teams. He may see an uplift in carries, but there are only so many times you can hand the ball off before you have to play catch-up football. With no real upside in the passing game either, Henry is a sell. A BE of 42 and a season ranking of 21 amongst RB’s, it’s sad to see one of the best to do it be in a situation like this towards the end of his career.

Embed from Getty Images

Bijan Robinson (RB Atlanta Falcons, $19.55m, 53 BE, 52%)

I’ve seen enough. Well, maybe not enough. Bijan has come off yet another stinker this week. Yes, conditions were terrible, but Bucky Irving seemed to do just fine in them. Bijan is somehow still the 12th-ranked RB despite only averaging 18.7 over the last 3 weeks and 27.4 over the last 5, which is highly inflated from a 54 scored against the Saints. The Falcons are just not good, and the inconsistency is killing me from Bijan.

5 of his 8 scores are below 30, 3 of which are in the teens. That’s simply not good enough from the preseason consensus top-2 draft and SuperCoach player. If I don’t sell him this week, I’m seriously considering benching him in favour of Coleman and running with Gibbs, K9, Tuten and Coleman as my playable backs. He’s set to lose another $1.4 this week and will be trending towards the $18m mark next week. The only thing keeping him in my team currently is knowing how good he can be and his last 3 games of the year against all 3 division rivals.

Nico Collins (WR Houston Texans, $15.07m, 53 BE, 10% ownership)

Hindsight is a beautiful and terrible thing. I should’ve got rid of him over Golden last week, and my week would’ve been a lot better. And my head noise too! I’ve loved Golden all year and regret getting rid of him for Washington, whom I’m still high on. Collins, though, is a curious case. Marv Harrison jnr has come into the team and isn’t a world beater yet, but has scored last week and seen 8 targets for 4 receptions across 2 games.

There seem to be too many mouths to feed in Houston now. Collins has seen his targets decline week on week since the Bills game, going from 10 to 5 in his previous game. There’s a temptation to hold him though because I’m a sick puppy. The Texans travel to SoFi and face the winless Chargers, then have a tough game against the Browns D, and then face the Colts and Ravens, whose seasons are both done. I’m tempted to hold until after the Ravens game, then reassess for the Steelers, but we shall see.

Embed from Getty Images

Trades and Captains

Last week’s trades were a proper mixed bag. Washington was poor, but that was thanks to Tuten doing so well in the run game. I think Tuten will continue to do well, but the Jags will also face a little more opposition even against weaker teams in the coming weeks and will need Washington to step up. McBride and Coleman both scored really well, but Coleman didn’t play for me.

This week I’ve thought of a few different things. Do I downgrade Bijan and bring back Price? And in doing so, upgrade Collins to JSN and finally bring in one of JSN or Puka? Do I have hand-up accountability and swap Collins to Golden and burn a trade? Do I do the same RB trade but bring in Higgins for Collins? Do I swap Collins for Evans and take a risk? As of right now, I will be…..

TRADE IN – NO ONE

TRADE OUT – NO ONE

As someone with only 8 trades left for the year, I don’t see anything as majorly urgent. Bijan and Collins are 2 huge concerns of mine, and I will ponder on them more throughout the week, but at this stage I won’t make any trades. I know I only need 4 trades for the rest of the year and have been planning to bring in both of or 1 of Puka/ JSN but post bye. As it stands, I will have 8 receivers playing in week 11, so I could bring in JSN early and cop the bye, but given my horror run of injuries, it may be best to wait.

Vice-captain-wise, I’m going to VC Tuten in the Thursday night game against the Ravens and hope he puts up monster numbers yet again. Captain-wise, I’ve been changing from K9 and Maye all night and been flirting with Gibbs too. As it stands, I’ll go with Maye, but that could easily change back to K9. Listen to this week’s pod with newcomer and SC guru DVG with some chatter and stats around captaining K9.

That’s all for the week! If I make any changes, I will update in the discord contributor-only chat. If anyone has any advice on the above trades, feel free to tag away in the discord! We’ll catch you on the next one!
