AFL Supercoach 2026: Dyl's Skippers - Round 19


<p>Captaincy at this stage of the year is crucial, with teams so similar, it can be the difference between a green and a red arrow.</p>



<p>I ended up with Max Gawn last week who posted a modest 116, not the end of the world, but there were plenty of others who went 150+, which really hurt my rank.</p>



<p>Let’s take a look at the best options in round 19.</p>

<p><strong>Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera &#8211; L3 v GEE: 149, 113, 101</strong></p>



<p>Wanganeen-Milera is red hot right now with a dream role for Supercoach. He’s doing it all for Ross Lyon’s St Kilda side, but surely the Cats put some time into him on Thursday night? There’s a massive ceiling here, but I’d be surprise if Oisin Mullin or Mark O’Connor don’t go to him.</p>



<p><strong>Max Holmes &#8211; L3 v STK: 115, 91, 112</strong></p>



<p>If you think Marcus Windhager/Hugo Garcia go to Bailey Smith, then Max Holmes could get off the chain. The Cats are under the pump right now and need Holmes at his best to get back on the winners list. Feels like Holmes is a solid option, but one who probably won’t go nuclear.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Brodie Grundy &#8211; L3 v ADE: 161, 110, 154</strong></p>



<p>Check out that recent record against the Crows! To be fair though, Lachlan McAndrew has assumed the role as Adelaide’s number one ruck, so it is a slightly different story now than previously. Grundy does have just one score above 105 in his last six matches, but I’m backing him to bounce back.</p>

<p><strong>Isaac Heeney &#8211; L3 v ADE: 83, 141, 120</strong></p>



<p>The Sydney superstar will be setting himself for a big performance on Friday night, as the Swans look to further entrench themselves in the top two. Heeney’s so explosive and has the ceiling you look for in a VC play.</p>



<p><strong>Jordan Dawson &#8211; L3 v SYD: 112, 102, 79</strong></p>



<p>Dawson’s been in a rich vein of form across the last five weeks, averaging 129 SC points per game. Does he get some attention from Sydney tagger James Jordon on Friday night? Possibly, but he might be good enough to post a big score anyway.</p>



<p><strong>Luke Jackson &#8211; L3 v PTA: 98, 163, 72</strong></p>



<p>Port Adelaide have been a tough matchup for rucks this season, but Jackson’s built different. The Power’s on-ball brigade has been decimated, so I’m fully expecting a huge Fremantle win here, which should mean plenty of points to go around.</p>

<p><strong>Andrew Brayshaw &#8211; L3 v PTA: 110, 96, 111</strong></p>



<p>Brayshaw’s rediscovered some nice form in recent weeks, averaging 116.6 SC points over the last five games. If you’re looking to be different, there should be plenty of points on offer against a severely weakened Power side.</p>



<p><strong>Max Gawn &#8211; L3 v NTH: 112, 67, 114</strong></p>



<p>Gawn’s on fire right now, averaging 139.6 SC points in his last five games, but does face a dangerous ruck in Tristan Xerri this week. Think I’ll be looking elsewhere, but you can’t knock the form.</p>



<p><strong>Harry Sheezel &#8211; L3 v MEL: 123, 81, 117</strong></p>



<p>Prior to last week where he posted a 107, Sheezel was the most in-form Supercoach player in the competition, but looked hampered a little bit by a corky against the Pies. He’s a star and worth considering against the Dees as a captaincy play this week.</p>

<p><strong>Nick Daicos &#8211; L3 v CAR: 140, 127, 94</strong></p>



<p>Daicos ticks a lot of boxes this week. Strong form against Carlton and elite form in recent weeks. Expecting him to have a huge performance against the Blues on Saturday night as the Pies continue their push towards a wildcard spot.</p>



<p><strong>Will Ashcroft &#8211; L3 v WCE: 104, 54, 148</strong></p>



<p>Only two players in the competition have scored more points than Will Ashcroft in the past three weeks and I fully expect him to continue that hot streak against a lowly Eagles side this round. He’s a popular trade-in option for the injured Zak Butters and a lot of coaches will be tempted to give their new toy the armband this week.</p>



<p><strong>Lachie Neale &#8211; L3 v WCE: 133, 143, 142</strong></p>



<p>How about that recent record against the Eagles! Neale’s another great captaincy shout this week. He’s been a little inconsistent this campaign, but he’s finding form at the right time of the year and as we saw last week, his ceiling is still superb.</p>

<p><strong>Jai Newcombe &#8211; L3 v RIC: 123, 162, 122</strong></p>



<p>Newcombe’s recent record against the Tigers is elite and he could be in for another huge day on Sunday afternoon. It’d be a bit of a risk given he’s not in the same tier as some of these other options, but hey, it would be different and the opposition data backs it up.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Marcus Bontempelli &#8211; L3 v GCS: 99, 136, 124</strong></p>



<p>Bontempelli put the Superman cape on last week against the Eagles, lifting the Dogs to victory in a tough clash at Marvel Stadium. Can he do it again? This match looms as a must-win for both sides and I expect the Dogs skipper to be in the thick of the action. Strongly consider.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Clayton Oliver &#8211; L3 v ESS: 83, 86, 100</strong></p>



<p>The Bombers are an easy kill right now and Brisbane’s midfield feasted last week in a huge mauling. I’d be surprised if Clarry didn’t go 120+ and I think a monster score is on offer. </p>
