NRL Supercoach 2026 Round 16 Wrap: 9 Things We Learnt


<p>These weekly wraps are getting harder and harder with every bad decision I keep making!</p>



<p>Koula than Kaeo fell into the Turbo trap – again. I should know better but I know I&#8217;ll be back again no doubt. It was looking ok until Sua and Drinky did a job to make my trades look bad.</p>



<p>Maybe there is some silver lining I&#8217;m not yet seeing, but hopefully Laurie does what he does best and picks blokes not named Tommy Turbo so I’ll have him for a red-hot Round 18.</p>

<p>Round 16 was plodding along without being spectacular until Sunday came, where eight of the ten 100+ scoring players pulled on their boots.</p>



<p>All bar Sua and TMM were owned by less than 11% of players so well done if you happen to have any of those PODs in your side. Charnze found 4 tries, Marky Mark a double which begs the question – who is the next winger to target for a big score? Lehi? Naufahu? Dare I write the words, Braidon Burns?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. <strong>Sunday Sua Special</strong></h2>



<p>I’ll endeavour to keep digging this hole I find myself in as I scored only 1234 which saw 152 green arrows.. Hey, they are green! This leaves me languishing in 42242 overall. Tim has asked me in for a meeting and said to bring a “support person”.</p>



<p>I have spent a fair chunk of time this season writing about Sua. I was an early seller if you have been following and was pretty happy with it.. The odd 100 here I was ok with..</p>



<p>The death rides have been tough but bearable then about 3 weeks ago he picked up the kicking tee.. And I knew it was over.</p>



<p>So those who have walked into Round 15 with him still in their sides are now the smart ones, as he hit his early season heights again with a monster 140 to really put the boot into sellers alike. The Raiders had little answers as, like one of those ferret things at the “Whack-amole” stalls he just kept popping up everywhere.</p>



<p>Many laid the captaincy on him and only those will see some serious green arrows.&nbsp;</p>



<p>For me and those sellers, it&#8217;s like seeing a party boat take off and you&#8217;re sitting on a dock with an oar and a ticket for a canoe ride for 2.</p>



<p>Fading Latrell and Sua has worked out pretty well for me..&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. <strong>Hooker woes</strong></h2>



<p>I feel like this time of year is like walking on very thin ice when our Hookers are either injured, backing up from Origin, getting run over and hooked or returning from injury, it becomes a lottery to see what you get from the most polarising position in Supercoach.</p>



<p>Blayke Brailey returned with a Travis Head like arm guard and made 40 odd tackles, pushing his claim for a Blue jersey on his way to scoring 54, whilst Harry backed up from the bench and was at his usual scheming best but it didn’t correlate with Supercoach scoring &#8211; finishing with only 36.</p>



<p>The most popular buy of the last month lasted only 29 minutes in Oliver Pascoe as he looked absolutely gassed, seeing more pink panthers than a kid watching cartoons in the 70s. Pascoe failed to live up to previous weeks hype with only 31. The re-emergence of Verrills could spell disaster for owners.</p>



<p>Wayde Egan looked the best of the lot but only gets through 60 odd minutes and is 480k for a reason, JMK looms as the POD option but anyone willing to use a trade in the HOK position has too many trades.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. <strong>Campbell-Martin the new Cleary-Hynes</strong></h2>



<p>Put the cameras down New Idea, Clynes is so last week, we have found our new power couple!</p>



<p>Jay Maire Martin (Might needs some work) &#8211; one playing for the most popular side, and the other in everyone&#8217;s second favourite team (well, we don’t have thoughts either way) have catapulted into everyone&#8217;s sides and have continued to put up some serious numbers!</p>



<p>Campbell looks at home in the 6 jersey, and we should see a DPP incoming shortly. JC has taken a back seat with Harrison guiding the Titans ship, though he is still so dangerous when running the ball and can sniff out the smallest of gaps.. Titans are building to something, and the more footy he plays with Kini the better the duo will be. His 81 came without an attacking stat which isn’t surprising when playing the Panthers but a sign he may be foreshadowing a big one.</p>



<p>And if they don’t name a stand – even the roof after TMM then they are doing something wrong!</p>



<p>The stadium was a sight, The Wahs jerseys never miss but watching TMM do his thing was even better.</p>



<p>Martin scored 106 in the Warriors 18 point win and looks set for another 60k price rise. He is the exact player we talk about when they say someone else will come along and make that cash you might have missed out on earlier on in the year. He could be 650k by the time we need to move him on.. But for now, gee it&#8217;s great having a Warriors halfback when they are red hot!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. <strong>Nicho&#8217;s back</strong></h2>



<p>A collective cheer went up throughout Nicho owners at 5.15pm on Sunday when it was confirmed he was returning to play!</p>



<p>Plenty would have a been a halfback short had he had another week off, but the calf was good, so the hair was slicked and away he went.</p>



<p>Although he didn’t repeat his heroics from last time he returned from a calf injury he still got through 80 minutes unscathed and finished with a hardy 61. Hynes had a BE of 143 so will drop around 75k in cash as he heads into the next week with a bye.</p>



<p>The bye does not come at a great time for owners but knowing they will own through 18 and 19 when the Sharks take on the Broncos and Dolphins – Both Origin affected will be well worth the 61 points in 5 weeks..</p>



<p>Nicho managed to set up a try and looked 100% fit so positive signs. Owners will want him to have a big 10 weeks heading into the finals so those sellers have a big question that needs an answer, and if that answer is yes, get him back in, then an even bigger bank balance is required.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5. <strong>Turbo time?</strong></h2>



<p>Ahh Hi. My name is Nick. And, I traded in Tommy Turbo again.</p>



<p>“Hi Nick”</p>



<p>Yep. Our boy was back and that was enough for me to bring him in, hell, I even went as far as captaining him!</p>



<p>He was busy but the attack didn’t flow for him finishing with only 70. Manly only scored the 2 tries, and he only managed a contribution.</p>



<p>Am I happy with the trade in? Absolutely not, especially when Sua and Drinky both went large but I have him in my side and that’s all that matters, especially at this point of the season.</p>



<p>And when I say this point, I mean the run home, because if Tommy Turbo knows one thing, it&#8217;s how to go mental in the back end of the year.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Despite his ‘lean’ last few years – well since 2021, he has had fourteen 100+ scores in that time, and 9 of those have come around Origin/Post Origin. Is he priming his run for the next month and beyond?&nbsp;</p>



<p>Don&#8217;t want to say I told you so.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">6. <strong>Ford in to see mechanic</strong></h2>



<p>Jackson Ford wouldn’t come off for many things. A torn pec is probably one of two injuries. So when he signalled to the trainer and headed straight for the sheds, you knew it wasn’t good.</p>



<p>Ford reeled out of a tackle and called for attention straight away, it was at that moment, we started to think ahead.</p>



<p>He looks set for a stint on the sidelines, although awaiting confirmation from the Phys (That&#8217;s NRL Physio for those chumps playing along at home). Even a 4-6 week it&#8217;s not worth the hold.</p>



<p>IPap is a solid replacement, as is Ola should he miss blues selection. But it does give us a chance to have a look and see who emerges post Origin. Hudson Young is the top pick for me, but he does still have Origin game 3 and a Ricky rocket coming his way.</p>



<p>If you are forward thinking and have had him or T May in your Flex and then you are fishing in open seas, whilst the rest of us are hoping to find some salmon in a dam. If I was Terrell May I would keep my arms tucked up nice and tight.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>7. &#8220;So long, partner”</strong></h2>



<p>As it&#8217;s the Hot topic on everyone&#8217;s lips at the moment, Toy story 5, is it time we say “So long, partner” to our favourite little Cowboy?&nbsp;</p>



<p>We&#8217;re not putting him in a box and leaving him for someone else to play with, but has time run out on Tommy Chester?&nbsp;</p>



<p>Chester has been nothing short of magnificent for the season so far and Sunday&#8217;s score of 29 was a significant outlier as his lowest of the season to date.&nbsp; He has made us a bucket load of cash and been a playable option every week, but as we start moving towards end teams, is he taking up a spot that could be an Isaako or Kiraz?</p>



<p>It will be an emotional goodbye if it is to happen, but just like Toy story, he will end up fighting his way back somewhere.&nbsp;</p>



<p>As for his other centre partner Purdue, I&#8217;m about to tie him to a rocket and give him over to Sid.</p>
