NRL Supercoach 2026 Round 9 Wrap: 9 Things We Learnt


<p>Remember Turbo 2021&#8230;Well, he now has some company! </p>



<p>Playing out of position, the best player in his side, scoring tries for fun. Billy Slater and the rest of the Maroons should be getting worried&#8230;Simi Sasagi just keeps getting better and better </p>



<p>Oh, and Latrell scored a try, set a couple up, and finished with about 140 points&#8230;Standard.</p>



<p>Another monster weekend of scores, there doesn&#8217;t seem to be any sign of it ending either. Teams are already starting to see the effects of the fast open play with injuries mounting (Some would say it&#8217;s the same) and teams being forced to call upon their 6-man bench more often than not. </p>



<p>That isn&#8217;t good for the cash development, and Joe Chan&#8217;s 17 minutes on the weekend was a case in point.</p>



<p>Koula than Kaeo slipped up again, missing out on Twal, Latrell, and Ford to post only 1281. Saved trades, so sent out the same plodders I have done for the last couple of weeks&#8230;Don&#8217;t foresee too many green arrows&#8230;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1. Latrell now taking the absolute Pea eye double ess </strong></h3>



<p>I would be a lot more chipper, and these articles would have a lot more sass about them had I been an owner of Latrell.</p>



<p>But alas, I am not, and each and every week I look for ways to make the pain stop.</p>



<p>In one breath, with Souths scoring 38 points, it was lucky he probably didn’t go 200.</p>



<p>But we are watching one of the great centre masterclasses of all time, and there isn’t a thing I and non-owners can do about it!</p>



<p>Well, maybe, and that’s sell Herbie, but who in their right mind is doing that!</p>



<p>Another week gone by, another monster score of 141, scoring 1, setting 2 more up, and kicking 5 goals. It&#8217;s getting beyond ridiculous. Even more so is the sheer lack of those willing to captain him!</p>



<p>You owners don’t realise how lucky you have it&#8230;So don’t take it for granted. Put the C on him and reap the rewards.</p>



<p>For us non-owners, I am afraid it doesn’t get much better. Noted (non) defender Siosifa Talakai, then likely Jack Bostock in the coming fortnight. Pencil him in for another 300 points in the next 2 weeks before putting on a blue jumper.</p>



<p>Only then will the pain stop!&nbsp;</p>



<p>Hey.. At least I might be able to own him in Origin if the rumours are true… </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2. Ford F-119</strong></h3>



<p>Jumped onto Car Sales last night to see what I could find in these Ford F-100+</p>



<p>Seems to be a few models, last week was the Ford F-105, the week before that the F-101, and even a F-120 model earlier on in the year.</p>



<p>The problem is they cost about 820k!</p>



<p>They do seem to promise reliability, workhorse-like efforts, day and night is not a problem, and they can even perform in New Zealand!</p>



<p>The numbers behind Jackson Ford this year need to be seen to be believed! 4<sup>th</sup> 100+ score on the bounce, to go with 2 earlier on in Rounds 2 and 3, has him as the 3<sup>rd</sup> highest scoring player after Round 9.</p>



<p>Scored his 4<sup>th</sup> try of the year, to go with 80+ in base stats. Must be the easiest watch of a FRF outside of Twal.&nbsp;</p>



<p>I won&#8217;t say the new stat system hasn’t made a difference, but a bloke in the middle that makes 50 tackles and gains 33 points in runs seems to make his way to 80 very easily.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3. Doueihi can&#8217;t shoulder the new owners </strong></h3>



<p>What does Douehi do to deserve this again!</p>



<p>Just as he was taking flight and demanding a spot in the NSW Blues makeup, he goes and does a Nick Moon (8 career tackles – 2 shoulder recos) and dislocates his shoulder. Don’t know if I ever did it scoring a try, but at least he had that going for him!</p>



<p>Owners felt the pain as much as AD on Sunday afternoon after the popular half only lasted 10 minutes before being carried off, watching on as his Tiger side spent most of the second 40 kicking off. If we can look at the glass half full, at least he did it, scoring a try, meaning he finished with 35.</p>



<p>Benji said afterwards the shoulder went back in, but he is still looking at 4-6 weeks. </p>



<p>It&#8217;s never 3-5 or 5-7. Always even numbers. Why is that?</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>4. Knights, a new side  </strong></h3>



<p>Wet Dream type of team list for the Knights on Tuesday, and boy, didn’t they deliver!</p>



<p>Lucas, Ponga, Best, Greg the leg back after concussion, saw them keep the scoreboard attendant busy piling on 40 points!</p>



<p>They looked a complete different side from the one that ran out against the Roosters and Panthers. This side can attack!</p>



<p>Led by Ponga, who put on a show to his adoring fans, their left edge had a field day with Marzhew bagging a hat-trick and 131 points whilst Best was the provider, chiming in for 3 try assists for the afternoon, finishing with 106.</p>



<p>Ponga looked like he had seen a different hamstring doctor than the one Turbo has, because he returned with a bang, scoring 92 and picking up where he and Dyl Brown left off in Round 2.</p>



<p>Cut price premium FLB, Origin and resting’s loom but St George, Titans then Parra after Origin has me wanting more than a piece of that.</p>

<p>Trey Mooney crossed for a double and 120 odd, just to drive the knife into over 8000 people who traded him out after a score of 42 last weekend. Now has 5 tries in his 8 games, a career high score of 123, and a massive influx of cash for those who still held. </p>



<p>Fletcher Sharpe still looks hampered by that knee, tending to pass first rather than run. Magic Round is coming up, though, so 3 tries should be on the menu. </p>



<p>If not, we can at least sell him to ‘checks notes’… Luke Brooks or Brandon Wakeham.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>5. KL Hero</strong></h3>



<p>At half time last week, owners of Iro were hoping for maybe a try, post 60 odd then sell sell sell&#8230;</p>



<p>Since then, he has scored 6 tries, set another up, and bagged 260 points! This week&#8217;s 128 looks a treat alongside last week&#8217;s 128. It&#8217;s like Nicho and Iro finally said hello to each other, worked out that both could benefit from each other, and here we are!</p>



<p>Their left edge attack with Wilton now is the predominant side, and a lot of their attack should now start streaming down that way.</p>



<p>With Nicho set to miss exactly 0 games through Origin (byes obvs), Iro could be that one player that explodes through the Origin period, and before you know it, he is 850k and unreachable.</p>



<p>With scores like that and the Sharks&#8217; edge humming, it&#8217;s season-keeper territory for those who own and break the bank for non-owners. Base is as good as it can be for a CTW, and now we know he can find a try or 3.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>6. Where is the love for AJ</strong></h3>



<p>Righto, who&#8217;s in?!</p>



<p>Playing outside of Latrell is the hottest real estate in the game, and he&#8217;s owned by 1.2% of coaches!</p>



<p>Scored a double on the weekend, has scored in every game this season, and if Latrell keeps going the way he has, could end the year with 30 tries!</p>



<p>Finished the afternoon in Newcastle with 127 points, after posting 88, 72, and 122 in his previous 3 games</p>



<p>We know the base isn&#8217;t there, and it&#8217;s a shot at the stumps, but who&#8217;s to say he won&#8217;t stop finding the line?! Back end of the year after Origin, he could go on one of the all-time great runs. </p>



<p>He will get 2 more games of Latrell before Origin, where he is up against edges that would let a centre wing combo of Arthars and Karapani through.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>7. Jenkins looking lost</strong></h3>



<p>Two matches without a try. Get rid of him. Question why you bought him in the first place. Sell him and never buy him back.</p>



<p>2 weeks straight without Tommy Jenkins finding the stripe, and it’s been a blessed relief for non-owners!</p>



<p>Penrith still looked to attack the right edge of Manly, but it didn’t get far past Talagi, and his aerial threat was negated by Saab.</p>



<p>Whilst he gets through a lot of work in the back, his hands have let him down, and he can find an error. Scored only 38 last night, to go with last week&#8217;s 42 against the Knights.</p>



<p>Owners shouldn’t be too quick on the trade button with the Raiders incoming, but without the attacking stats, his floor might be lower than we realise. </p>



<p>See what he can dish up against the Raiders, but either way, he is probably a sell before Origin. Not that I think he will get a Blue jersey, but Yeo and Cleary won&#8217;t be there to feed him footy.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>8. Hau bad. Marky Mark, even worse</strong></h3>



<p>When the fun stops, stop.</p>



<p>That&#8217;s the only advice I can give to Hau owners who, after coming off the bye, was hooked early into the second half and not seen again for a season low of 28. </p>



<p>No tries or attack came his way, and his run of 4 tries in 5 games came to a crashing halt. Bai showing some serious promise on the bench might mean he loses his starting spot, especially after dropping that game.</p>



<p>I traded him out last week when they were on the bye, but he now looks the exact plodder for the Origin period. He has made owners just shy of 350k, so it&#8217;s thanks, goodbye, and I&#8217;ll always remember not playing you when you scored 116.</p>



<p>And Marky Mark, we hardly knew yet&#8230; 2 weeks of ownership for me and probably plenty of others landed only 95 points, and the ankle injury is now set to give him a stint on the sidelines.. 5-7 weeks maybe?</p>
