Spy Talk: Tackling the week's big questions, Round 11


<p>Troops!</p>



<p>I’ll tell you what, I am in a bit of a two week rut and it seems like a good weekend to turn it around…</p>



<p>I’ll do this (hopefully) by going after guys with upside now that I feel I have accumulated enough cash in my team (at least for now).</p>



<p>I am also going to really trust my eyes and gut when watching games and see where that takes me.</p>



<p>This doesn’t mean I won’t take cheapie guys if I still think they will offer value, but there will be no more speculative plays.</p>



<p>Peoples and Kiraz look like guys who could be bottom dollar, play the byes and score well, so I’ll watch them closely this weekend before deciding whether to make a move.</p>



<p>Speaking of bye planning, I will update my article from last week to reflect my latest thoughts.</p>

<p>This will occur next week as a lot has happened in seven days and I want to take a close look at guys this coming weekend.</p>



<p>But a decent rule of thumb for me when trading is making sure the people coming in are either keepers, play the bye and offer points scoring potential, or are a good downgrade option to free up cash.</p>



<p>Trades and team set up will be different for everybody so be wise, and if you can make a rough plan as to who you want for both byes and then who you will need back post Origin.</p>



<p>This will give you a rough guide as to how many trades you will have left over.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Reuben Cotter</strong></h2>



<p>Well and truly passing the eye test. There is the option to bring him in now, but I’d probably rather wait till post Penrith, Melbourne and see how his minutes look before a possible bye round clash or Origin selection.</p>



<p>If selected his minutes may well be monitored a little with 2x Friday matches after Origin 1 and 3.&nbsp;</p>



<p>It’s also worth noting that his minutes dropped from 80 odd to 63 last weekend, so we may not know exactly what they will look like week in week out.</p>



<p>In short, I’m happy to wait and see what unfolds with an eye to grab him for the bye or monitor over the Origin period if he makes it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Ryan Matterson and Viliame Kikau</strong></h2>



<p>Both throwing their hands up for selection. <strong>Matto</strong> is flying, but with a current four man bench even though he is starting we still don’t quite now if he will play 55-65 or 80 minutes.</p>



<p>I am not against getting him right now, but I am also happy to do similar to Cotter and see how minutes play out and if he makes Origin.</p>



<p>This weekend may well make him a must purchase if minutes are high, but be aware attacking stats have been huge which may inflate things if these don’t remain week in week out.</p>

<p>I see his floor as 55-60 normally with upside, so he remains a good purchase if you want him! I will consider..</p>



<p><strong>Kikau </strong>is a little different in that minutes are pretty consistent (up from previous years) but his floor is lower (estimate of 40).</p>



<p>His attack though is undisputed in the best team in the comp and he is in career best form. I quite like him as a pre Round 13 trade in before maybe moving him on post Warriors clash in round 15 for a second bye player (or holding if you deem him a keeper).</p>



<p>Some risk involved, but I don’t hate it at all.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Off topic</strong></h2>



<p>Slightly off topic but a shoutout to the overall leader Blink182To’o! Blink were my favourite band in high school. Anyways, back to the footy…</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Captaincy Options</strong></h2>



<p>I’m quite enjoying captaincy options this year because it’s never easy and there is variety.</p>



<p>That being said, I haven’t nailed many!! My rule is to always chase the upside, so whoever you think is the most chance of blowing out the opposition and going mad gets my nod.</p>



<p>This week it is Cleary v Hynes. I won’t let last week’s Sharks effort scare me as they may well be back.</p>



<p>The bench and lack of punch does worry me a little, so I’ll ponder over the weekend before settling on a decision…</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Trades</strong></h2>



<p>I still don’t know I must say. At the moment I have Staggs – Mulitalo pencilled in.</p>



<p>I may trade Penisini instead, but it’s likely I offload him next week so it makes sense to trade out the guy with the bigger BE first.</p>



<p>If there is an option to keep one for the byes it will be Staggs. I’m pretty sure I will have about 40 minutes tonight before kickoff to check my trade plans leading into round 13 and make the decision on what to do!</p>

<p>I may bring one in this weekend and the other decision is whether I need to sell Papi to fund these guys or can I get most and still hold him?</p>



<p>Bearing in mind of course that that I’ll need decent money to get him back. This would be down by trading out a round 13 bye player for a bottom dollar guy. This all adds up to trades however, so I have a decision to make!</p>
