Thanks Spy, gives me a really good guide on how to set up pre TLT. I have no Fifita which is burning me lol. I do have Cleary at the moment though.

It’s my final team time. And by final I mean my team as of Wednesday at 10pm.



That is to say it’s hopefully locked in, however I may have a change of heart in one or two positions.



Regardless, it won’t be drastic.



Let’s see how the Round 1 team looks.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hooker</h2>



Harry Grant



Locked in. He averaged 74PPG in just 59 per game minutes last season. Has potential to increase on those minutes if he starts at 9 this year.



I’ll also note that he couldn’t stay healthy last year which hurt his momentum and played several games late on in the season when Melbourne were in a little bit of a slump.



The only question mark may be Melbourne’s dominance and go forward. Will they be as good as last year? Either way it doesn’t take many quick play the balls for Harry to take advantage.



He does miss round 1 and can be prone to injuries based on last year, but he is in for me.



Chris Randall (Bench scorer)



Named to start at 9 with Brailey out long term. Will need 50+ minutes to be of value. Could get 70-80 minutes?

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Front-row</h2>



Jai Arrow



I hope he can at least return to his previous averages of 62-64PPG if not more! Based at an average of 52 he seems a pretty safe play to at least hold value.



A big minutes increase would be nice. I’d love to see him play on an edge and then spend some time in the middle which is possible.



Stefano Utoikamanu



Not locked in, but looks a likely prospect. On the up! Is Klemmer perhaps an option? There are a bunch of front-row contenders but I’ll want to try and get value to free up cash for elsewhere.



Haas isn’t out of the running either to be fair, I just don’t see him as a must start in round 1. AFB is also a massive contender.



Front-row Bench



Max King – Excellent in trials. Minutes a concern, but basement price.



Jirah Momoisea – Similar to Max above, let’s see if he can produce some money for my side.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Second-row</h2>



David Fifita



I’m finding it very hard to leave him out, but he does have to average at or close to 85PPG to make it worth it.



Not a must, but he may look like a must pretty quickly! Honestly one of the most exciting players of a generation! He will be even better if he can learn to bump off/leg drive against genuine leg tacklers like Cam Murray and similar as he is prone to hitting the deck at times against good tackle techniques.



I do love when he runs sideways and straightens into space, because things happen and generally this includes about 3-5 tacklebreaks per run!



Josh Curran



I thought he was incredible to end the year. The Warriors have a soft draw to open and hopefully he shifts between lock and edge back-row to lock up both huge base and attacking potential.

Just sooo cheap! His minutes were steady enough last year (only down 2-5 on previous years) but his average was 15-23 less then average!



He would only need to average 10+ to be worth it and has such upside! Surely (surely!) a point to prove for one of the best forwards rugby league has seen….



Second-row Bench



Shannon Harris



At this stage he is my one non-player, basement price to free up cash and dual position which may be useful. If I can free up $30k or so I may be able to find another money maker, but my cap is tight.



Kelma Tuilagi



Real upside, but security and minutes are a concern. I’ll back him in and go from there.



Izack Tago



Named to start and locked in! Great raps in a great side. I’m playing him in the forwards to start due to the centre options available.

Starting, goal kicking and looking for cash generation! Concern around job security no doubt, but there aren’t many options…

Dylan Brown



I just have a good feeling about him and even if he can start solid around his average and accrue points he’ll at least hold value, but ideally lead to an upgrade when I’m ready.



The upside is also there if he can match his 2020 output.



If Sam Walker could gain dual HB-5/8 status I may even flip Sammy when it’s Cleary time.



For the record I quite like Mann here also, I just wonder if he has the upside at lock?



Bench 5/8



Lachlan Ilias



Lock him in.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CTW</h2>



Euan Aitken



Comes with an enormous injury risk but seeing as you can start with him it’s only one trade if he goes down injured, rather than two if you bring him in mid-season and then need to cut him if he gets hurt.



Huge upside, awesome base and if he stays healthy he could well just stay in your team season long!



I’ll take 6+ weeks from Euan please… He averaged 80PPG in five full games in the back-row in 2021 (injured in the last one 11 minutes in).



Daniel Tupou



Tupou replaces Beau Fermor from my initial side.



Scored at 0.73PPM last season. If he could grab 80 minutes he could average close to a safe 60PPG.



Minutes are the worry so it’s a big maybe at this stage, but a close watch! Staggs is a massive play also but injury history is really not good.



I may want to see him healthy for a month first…. Or I may just go all in on him! Staggs + Aitken = Huge risk v reward. I’d hate to lose both in round 2.



Xavier Coates



Moves into prime real estate on the Storm&#8217;s left wing, super talent, big year ahead.



Billy Smith



He gets the start and I know he can play if injuries allow him a run of games. Let’s see what the young fella can do.



Will Penisini (Bench scorer)



I watched this kid play a trial last year and was immediately blown away! Absolute talent. Big base! In.



Sean Russell



Direct replacement for the injured Dunster. Left wing for Parra, yes please. I’d love an early double or hatty! I’ll be playing him in my 17 most of the early weeks.



Viliami Vailea



Rookie centre, basement price, I have him in.

James Tedesco



The great man. Averaged over 100 to end the season last year. He gets a plethora of guns back to give him some help this season and I’m super happy to have him. Skipper round 1!



Ryan Papenhuyzen (Bench scorer)



My little mate! Here’s hoping he has shaken the head knock and is back to his best.



I’m a little wary, but confident enough that he can find his form again.



Whether it’s enough to keep the FB spot in the Spy Squad season long is yet to be determined.



Hopefully after three weeks I’ll apologise for ever doubting the kid! It’s a shootout between him and Teddy to see who partners Turbo long-term who I will look to bring in anywhere between Rounds 4 and 7.



Also, Latrell watch upon return!!! He could have a monster season.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Sum Up</h2>



There is a heap to play out but hopefully I have my core set.



A few decisions are certainly still to be made, and I might yet come across a couple of guys I’m yet to truly consider. Round 1 cheapies as always will be pivotal for overall squad makeup.



Overall please back yourself. You might be onto something that I’m not! As always anything can happen in Supercoach.
