Spy Talk: Attacking revised draw, trade/skipper plans

Hello Legends!



It&#8217;s getting down to the business end of the BBL season and whilst multiple double game weeks were soon to be a thing of the past, the fixture rearrangement means we have two teams on the double for the next two rounds before a single game week to finish.



However, Round 13 also may turn into a double game week if the Heat v Sixers currently unscheduled game is placed there to end the regular season. Round 11 starts on Tuesday (early afternoon please be aware of this!) and it&#8217;s the Melbourne teams on the double (Stars and Renegades) so with five trades available I&#8217;ll be getting probably four from each team with a few already in my squad.



Though I think Josh Philippe is due so I might use one trade on him and run with four Stars and three Renegades.

As a side note, Round 12 has Adelaide on the double and the Stars again, but as we know fixtures can always change given the COVID situation, so I’ll deal with Round 11 and then tackle Round 12 separately with five trades in hand.



This should work fine as I&#8217;ll keep my Stars on deck and add to my two Strikers, while quietly keeping an eye on a few PODS to fire me home. Money may well be something to try and not worry much about if you have managed to build up a decent team value. I personally will be targeting points rather than breakevens from now on as a general rule. As always, save trades where you can and wait for team lists to drop.



Using all trades isn&#8217;t essential if you are happy with where you are at. If time allows look closely into loop options and maybe use a spare trade to help with that such as trading a starter out for a non-player if your auto-emergency player goes bananas. Below I have limited my favourite targets from the two sides on the double in round 11.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Melbourne Stars</h2>



Haris Rauf – A genuine wicket-taker even if he goes for runs. He is so capable of two or three scalps in the last over when batters are swinging like it was 1965. Marcus Stoinis &#8211; He may bowl with guys out, but either way he is cheap and has the potential to walk out and crack a ton! Qais Ahmad &#8211; I really high quality spin bowler and a perfect option for the double to accumulate points. Adam Zampa – He hasn&#8217;t been as effective yet this tournament but again he has the pedigree. It’s a toss of a coin between him and Qais, or you could take them both!

Joe Clarke &#8211; Can be hit and miss but is in form! I don&#8217;t hate the anti-POD play on him if you want to go that way.. I already own so will likely stick by him. Hilton Cartwright &#8211; I think this bloke is a proper star! My only concern is how many overs he gets to bat? I wish we could see more of him each match. I&#8217;ll have Rauf, Stoin, Clarke and likely one of the above, maybe two. I’m yet to decide who exactly.



Glenn Maxwell is obviously a huge watch pending availability on return from COVID. If he’s back for the first double, he’s almost impossible to ignore despite a few low rounds.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Melbourne Renegades</h2>



Kane Richardson &#8211; Just lock him in. Absolute class. Huge skipper option. Shaun Marsh &#8211; Still hitting them as sweet as ever. Not a must, but a great option. Aaron Finch – I’m just not sold on Finchy these days but in saying that he is in the runs and we know what he can do.



I&#8217;d say he will come back in for me for the double before maybe becoming an auto-emergency loop option for the last couple of rounds.



It’s a big decision to make as he is dangerous, but he is equally as capable of scoring in single figures twice.

Nic Maddinson – I preferred him when bowling last week as he can lack chances with the bat at times. This may see me avoid, but he is more than capable if given a chance and he has mass upside. Mohammad Nabi &#8211; Perfect if you need a cheapie and he played well last match. Again, his role can be a worry. I already own Kane Richo and I think I will add in Marsh and Finch (a bit vanilla) unless I sneak Matto above of them or look for a POD elsewhere. That will see my five trades as close to the below: IN: Rauf, Ahmed, Marsh, Finch and Philippe.



OUT: Gilkes, D Short, Rogers, Meredith and TBD. At this stage I&#8217;d say back yourself. Get at least six for the double and then go from there!



Don&#8217;t be afraid to take a small risk and target someone you really like and hope you can finish strongly.

Alternatively, stack your team with double game week players with eight or so which gives you mass opportunity for solid points. Both approaches are fine. Just be aware to mix up batsmen and bowlers from the same team as you don&#8217;t want five players with the same role or you will limit the scoring potential.
