Spy Talk: Answering the big questions, Rd 15


<p>Hey Troops!</p>



<p>We’re back to normal this week after a disrupted two rounds or so.</p>



<p>Most players should be back on deck and this is obviously good news for Supercoach.</p>



<p>The SC Spy squad dropped 70 odd spots to 266<sup>th</sup> this week. I am hoping now for a big couple of weeks to get flying again. I’ll do this by prioritising points over cash / bye coverage.</p>



<p>I think there is still time to get bye coverage prior to Round 17 and I’m not so sure teams are going to have much more than eight or so players given the lack of trades and the need to get the superstars back in for the run home.</p>

<p>This includes David Fifita, Harry Grant, Ryan Papenhuyzen, Tommy Trbojevic and co all who won’t play the next bye.</p>



<p>So don’t overdo it and leave yourself short on being able to get these guys back in.</p>



<p>You can have a firm eye on these guys either now or post Origin 3.</p>



<p>Personally I’m getting D Fifita back this week trying to beat others to a big score. Harry can probably wait but I don’t mind it now if you like.</p>



<p>The other option is to use a trade if you have the luxury to turn a Round 13 bye coverage guy who may not be a keeper into a long-term keeper for the run home.</p>



<p>In this instance I’m going turn Daine Laurie into Dane Gagai. The one caveat I have on this is that I would be very reluctant to trade someone on who DOES play Round 17 unless they are really offering very little.</p>



<p>If you already own there is generally little harm in keeping them for an extra number before moving them on post Origin.</p>



<p>Onto some other pressing thoughts and matters now.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>PLAYER CONSIDERATIONS</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Greg Marzhew</strong></p>



<p>On paper he is the most tempting trade in I’ve seen in a long time. BE of -81, strong base and bottom dollar. I don’t mind if you need to get him to generate cash or downgrade someone, but these are the reasons I would be wary.</p>



<ol type="1"><li>Do you actually need the cash? This may be yes or no depending on your personal squad value and how many guns you need to get back in. But with Nicho Hynes a likely mega downgrade soon for many is the cash super important?</li><li>The facts are Marzhew may actually not be around for long. AJ Brimson is back soon (though this will likely only impact Campbell at FB) but more pressingly Anthony Don has been named on an extended bench this week. There is a chance he comes in for Marzhew and if it happens this week they play the last game of the round. You will have wasted a trade and may be stuck with him in your 17. Be wary!!</li><li>If you want him to generate cash it will take two trades to do this. One to get him in and another to get him out. The alternative to that is if you were already looking to move a current centre to a bye coverage centre/keeper then it is only one extra trade. Not a major issue if he can play two to three weeks. But with trades at a premium make sure you really need to do it.</li></ol>



<p>Okay, a lot of negatives there and to be honest he may hold a spot, base 50 and turn into a keeper. These are the joys / pains of Supercoach of course! The info is there, back yourself and make a call!</p>

<p><strong>David Fifita</strong></p>



<p>I like the idea of getting him back this week if you can. He may drop another $60-90k which may be valuable, but alternatively he may score 140, drop next to no cash and you will have banked his score while others waited.</p>



<p>He had 16 tacklebreaks two games back and nine in 34 minutes last weekend! I’m taking the punt to go early despite a BE of 150! Points win titles!</p>



<p><strong>Jason Taumalolo </strong>&nbsp;</p>



<p>I am definitely waiting to see here. Zero tackle busts in two whole games suggests something is up. Perhaps playing through an injury? Only one score above 53 this year in six matches. I’m really happy to wait two weeks and see if he can find the Jason of normal and grab him on the bye week!</p>



<p><strong>Siosifa Talakai</strong></p>



<p>Keep a huge eye out! He is a monster if playing 65+ minutes, available at centre and plays the bye. Some injury history is there but he is cheap and a near must get if he gets the role we hope he does. Hynes – Talakai anyone?</p>

<p><strong>Wests Tigers</strong></p>



<p>Players like David Nofoaluma and Laurie do have amazing runs home from about Round 18 onwards.</p>



<p>I don’t mind the Laurie sell given he holds solid value still, but Nofo is well unders and for me is a perfect guy for the run home even as a fifth centre rather than using a valuable trade to get him out for someone maybe not even as good.</p>



<p>Laurie could also be a keeper as a fifth or sixth centre but is a fine sell also.</p>



<p><strong>Connor Watson</strong></p>



<p>Connor played in the halves last week and it effected his score badly. But he is back to the 14 role this week and hopefully gets 50-60 minutes which could be an easy 50-80 points.</p>



<p>Long-term I’m happy to sell him, but I also don’t mind waiting to swap him for Harry Grant post Origin as it’s not that far away. Essentially don’t panic trade him, but it’s no issue if you want to move him this week.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>TRADES</strong></h2>



<p>I stress this all the time but please, please be careful. Post Origin there are still eight whole rounds left, you are going to need trades, trust me!</p>



<p>So any trades from now on in must be critical. Either a great bye option who you can keep for the run home or a straight up keeper.</p>



<p>Cash generation is only on a must do basis to fund the superstars and someone who may get you 40-50 in the bye week would be a luxury trade, unless they also provide decent cover for the rest of the season.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Value seekers</strong></h2>



<p>If you are a bit short of cash there are a couple of guys who can be keepers at a cheap price due to injuries and the like. Reed Mahoney is $465k when he returns, Zac Lomax is $440k, but with an injury effected 5 in his rolling average he will drop cash for at least two more games when he returns.</p>



<p>You could nab him for $350k odd which is madness. He’s a great fifth centre option, even top four if he fires. Keep an eye on these sorts of guys to strengthen your squad without breaking the bank.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Sum Up</strong></h2>



<p>It’s a big week with plenty going on, but that will do me for now. VC for me is Alex Johnston and skipper will either be Hynes or Tommy Turbo!</p>



<p>I think Hynes given he scores in such a variety of ways in a dominant Melbourne team but it’s tight.</p>



<p>I’m going to sit Sam Walker (likely rested anyway) and Nofoaluma this week given their respective match ups.</p>
