Sit v start: Who to play in your final 17, Rd 4?

Wow, round 3 was tough for start/sit! Kudos if you started Josh King. He’d yet to register a tackle break or offload before the round.&nbsp;



Attacking stats were always a possibility in a strong Storm side and he looks better every week that passes.&nbsp;



If you’re not familiar with this article, I pick various popular fringe 17 players, categorise them in start / consider / sit, then rank them in the priority order that I’d play them.

A general note to keep an eye on the weather leading into the round and across the weekend (looking ominous again).&nbsp;



For rain affected matches I’d slightly favour forwards over backs. I generally don’t factor this into the rankings, so please adjust accordingly.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Play</h2>



1.     Izack Tago



Won’t bother listing him anymore after this week, as he’s the lockiest lock that ever locked in your 17.



2.     Jeremiah Nanai



Will be ups and downs as we’ve seen, but Nanai looks to have a huge upside. The Roosters have conceded the most to 2RFs this season. Start.



3.     Brad Schneider 



We’ve now seen both his high floor and his upside. He has filled the stat sheet across most categories in his opening two games. The Raiders are up against Manly who’ve conceded the third most to halfbacks this season. Start.



4.     Tom Gilbert



Averaging 52 in base + power stats this season. Easy play if you own.



5.     Josh King



Growing in confidence and stature by the week. Added attacking stats to his game last round. There could be more to come being in a strong Storm side.&nbsp;



This week will be telling in terms of minutes, with both Grant and Smith back on deck. I’m backing him to still get a decent share, which makes him a start in my books.&nbsp;



6.     Xavier Coates



Matches up this week vs the Fox, who is yet to let in a try on his wing this season. Nonetheless, there’s every chance the Storm rack up a score against the Dogs and Coates gets amongst the tries.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Consider</h2>



7.     Will Penisini



A low scoring game against the Storm certainly isn’t uncommon. The Eels have a much better game coming up vs the Dragons. Ramien grabbed a try and an assist on that edge last week. He’s likely a play in most 17’s.



8.     Taylan May



May was beautiful to watch in combination with Tago. Those two could be starters for us for weeks to come. It’s a tougher assignment this week vs the Rabbits. However, I still like him as a play in a red-hot Panthers side.&nbsp;



9.     Eliesa Katoa



Katoa played reduced minutes last week due to an eye injury. His floor is still around 40-45 and we know he has attacking stats in him. The matchup looks decent v the Broncos who’ve conceded the 5th most to 2RFs this season. Even better if SJ happens to be a late inclusion.&nbsp;



10.  Max King



King looked great again last week, before leaving the field with a niggle. The matchup vs the Storm isn’t as bad as it looks, as they concede the 6th most to FRFs. Can be played if needed.



11.  Selwyn Cobbo 



It’s fair to say the Broncos right side hasn’t played out the way I thought it would. The Warriors top the charts in points conceded to CTWs so far this season though. It’s a gamble given his low floor, but this could be the week Cobbo breaks out.



12.  Oliver Gildart



Found his mojo last week with two linebreaks and six tackle busts. The Tigers have a nice matchup vs the Titans who’ve conceded the 5th most to CTWs. Not the worst play.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sit</h2>



13.  Billy Smith 



Base stats are on the improve. Maybe he just needs to cross the stripe once for confidence. Unfortunately the Cows have been rock solid in defence this season (16th in points conceded to CTWs). This, combined with potential storms on Saturday, makes Billy a sit for mine.&nbsp;



14.  Chris Randall



PPM disappeared last week vs the Panthers. This week’s matchup against the Sharks doesn’t look much better (12th in points conceded to hookers). Sit if you can.



15.  Talatau Amone



Matchup on paper vs the Eels is actually okay, as they’ve conceded the most points to 5/8’s this season and the 4th most points to halfbacks (showing it’s happened both sides of the field). I still think it’s too much to ask for a form turnaround this week for Amone.

16.  Lachlan Ilias 



No need to risk playing him in a tough matchup vs the Panthers.



17.  Ethan Bullemor 



Not an option unless he gets more minutes through the middle and you’d want to see that happen first.
