If there was ever a motto more poignant this year than SAVE TRADES, this was the week that proved it. Score of 880 was utterly horrendous and deflating. Fell from #990 to #1,714 as I should have from the poor showing.

No trades left and limping towards the final weeks with alot of underperformers: Gutho, Talakai, and I even had to play Topine this week.

I’ve been playing SC for about a decade and never had I seen trades as valuable at the back end of the season as they are this year. In yesteryear teams looked awfully familiar, but with the amount of injuries, suspensions and restings, there are alot more PODs in play. Good luck to all still fighting for overall/H2H.

Angus to Cam may be a goer, just want
Someone with more upside I guess. Manu whilst low base can bring higher ceiling IMO. Also, the biggest threat in my league has Manu already so one less POD.

As for Gutho to Teddy last week was the week for me to pull that trade as I only have 83k ITB, which is no longer enough for the upgrade.

With no AJ of JFH being named, Angus out for 3 weeks, and CHN benched again, I am very scarce on numbers this week.

Would I be crazy to use my last trade Angus to Manu/Gagai? Already having to play Hynes, Luai, Talakai and Milne, and don’t really want to play CHN or Cini this week.

1,243 this week, and up into #789 with alot of underperformers: CHN, Gutho, Talakai (guy can’t catch a break 2 disallowed tries in as many weeks). I kind of wish I used my last trade Gutho to Teddy last week, but also happy I have a trade for H2H finals.

Are we holding Hynes this week if he gets benched, which I suspect he will?

Legends, what are we doing with Hynes?

I have 1 trade left ($83k ITB) so I’m reluctant to pull the trigger. Team is:

    Cheese, Simpkin
    Haas, AFB, JFH, Ogden
Fifi, Angus, IPap, CHN, Talakai, Topine
    Hughes, Burton
    Cody, Luai
Hynes, Garrick, Tupou, AJ, Milne, Burbo, Cini
    Turbo, Gutho.

I was thinking Hynes to Grant, but whilst Grant is coming off the bench still, I’m happy to hold fire. Other thoughts are Milne to Best/Nofo?

I think my best option is to hold fire & save the trade in case of emergency. Thoughts?

I think we’re all considering selling Hynes. As Tim mentioned in the team analysis, Manu in centre isn’t the best for his scoring. I like Best, and was going to bring him in this week, but not sure I can bring myself to use my last trade on a bloke that’s injury prone. So that leaves Gagai.

Regarding the Hooker, if you have enough trades (& cash), Brailey to Grant would be a cracker!

Douehi for Schuster would be a good POD play move for the run home with so much doubt around Cleary, and I am liking To’o to Fox this week also. I also assume you sold Hynes a few weeks back, its hard to buy him now with so much uncertainty where he will play, but worth a thought.

Yeah, I am leaning towards To’o to Haas, and saving the second trade.

It means I only field 16 this week, unless Milne ousts Paulo/Mansour, but alot will be in the same boat. I like the upside of JAC for Milne but also may be critical in saving the trade.

To’o out for 4-8 weeks will throw a spanner in the works for everyone for sure.

I was planning on holding my last 2 trades to get Cleary back, but seems that is a mere pipe dream now. I am already holding AJ, and JFH and AFB, can’t hold To’o too. I may look to trade To’o to Haas, and save the last trade, or use it to upgrade Gutho to Teddy, or Milne to JAC. Thoughts?

*Note, will only have 15 without trades.

If Teddy is kicking for the rest of the run home, I’d say him, and I am seriously considering Gutho to Teddy this week myself. Battling whether it is too sideways and I should be holding the trade for injuries, or getting Cleary back as I only have 2 trades left.

Well, Rd19 is one I’d wish to forget in a hurry, it all went pear shaped. I tried to be optimistic chasing upside and opted to play Milne over JFH (knowing full well its was his last game for a few weeks and would go large). Also played Luai & Burton over Talakai. Leaving me with a paltry score of 1,267 and falling to #781.

This is compounded by my planned trades looking unlikely, with Burton who I was going to use to get Cleary, losing an important $67k. I need Hynes to be dropped to the bench, and Cleary to be named and lose alot of coin, if I am any chance of bringing Cleary back.

Pending TLT, I may go Hynes to Nofo, with Nofo playing the dogs twice in the next 5 weeks. Or if AFB isn’t named (along with JFH), I may have to trade AJ to Haas, thus forgoing Cleary. Tough times ahead!

Scored 1,530 with a sneaky Hynes loop. Up into #519. Shan’t be trading this week. Keen to see how Lil Pay & Hynes are named this week.

I’d be one of those 6%, and i’m gluing my hands together this week to prevent myself from getting trade happy.

If I had 5 or 6 trades I would go SJ to Luai to free up cash and a bit of a POD.

Personally I wouldn’t loop SWalker, as Cody could get that just as easily. Tohu could only play 60 and score 50 too? Tough one, but if it were me I wouldn’t loop. I have always figured loop needs to be 150+

Hynes however, I’m still deciding whether I loop. Would be dropping Burton/Milne for Talakai’s AE.

Further, I am in a similar predicament with Val out for 4 weeks. I have planned a few options, and still weighing up my best option:
    1. Val to Fifita and Gutho to Teddy
    2. Val to Milne/Nofo and Barnett to Fifita
    3. Val to Taumalolo and CHN to Fifita

Val to Tupou and Barnett to Fifi would be cracking trades, but looks like your $38k short. Hold Angus IMO.

Of those that you can afford for Val, I like Nofo the best, or Milne as a sneaky POD (as I may do myself for Barnett to fund Val to Fifita).

That uses 2 trades and then you have 6 for the run home (jealous). The other planned trades look good too.

NRL Physio just posted that Val is out 4 weeks, & there goes my POD for the run home. In that regards he is a sell.

So I think I have a tough choice. Do I keep CHN or Barnett for the run home, the one i dont keep ill need to sell to fund Val to Fifita? Alternatively I can bring in Teddy for the run home for Gutho which will give me just enough cash to go Val to Fifita? It means I will have to forego Papy and hope Hynes holds his spot for the next few weeks.

For mine, Burton is a hold. He will be the chief playmaker whilst Luai and Cleary are sidelined. But in saying that I moved Cleary on for Hughes a few weeks back with the mindset that Hughes would be the best half behind Cody for the run home, assuming Cleary doesnt come back.

Regarding Teddy, if you think he is a hold to seasons end, you may need to cop an AE this week, else as you say bring in Ponga now for Teddy. Ponga is more a keeper than Gagai in my opinion, especially if you already have AJ.

Only 4 trades left with 60K ITB and want to hold my top 1k rank, currently narrowly trailing yourself in #918. Prior to Vals injury I planned on using 3 trades: This week Gutho to Fifita, hold fire next week, Hynes to Nofo in round 20 (assuming Papy is back) and Burton to Cleary (also assuming he is back). Leaving me with 1 trade for emergency.

I just posted a Q in the Subs special podcast, and to summarise with Val going down I can go CHN to Taumalolo, or Barnett to Milne to help fund Val to Fifita. Or stick with 2 trade and go Gutho to Fifi, and hold Val hoping its only 2 weeks (NRL Physio has him 2-4 weeks).

That injury to Val really isn’t at an opportune time. Not sure if I should hold or trade.

I have cover in Hynes, Too, AJ and Garrick. Or I could sell to Taumalolo to fund CHN to Fifita? Means I need to hold Gutho for a bit longer, possibly till seasons end. Or do I save the trade and hold Val and go with my initial Gutho to Fifi trade.

Curran to Haas is what I’d do, and Watto to Cheese.

Thanks Legend, will pull the trigger on Gutho to Fifita this week.

With the news that Cleary may be back in Rd20, I will forego Haas, and probably Papy too. I am hoping I can sell Hynes to Nofo in Rd20/21 to free up the cash to go Burton to Cleary after he plays a game and loses 100k or so.

Thanks Timmy, your wise words are greatly appreciated! With no Papy or Grant named, makes my choices relatively easy. Is it worth sacrificing Gutho for Fifita moving Hynes down to FLB. Else I would have to use 2 trades to fund Barnett to Fifita.

Trades depend heavily on what Storm team is named?

If Papy is named, Hynes to Fifi and maybe Barnett to Haas
If Grant is named, but Papy is not CHN to Grant and Guhtho to Fifi
If no Papy or Grant, may just go Gutho to Fifi.

Assuming you are referring to Kieran Foran, he has always been SC mud. Though is pretty cheap, and a decent POD compared to SJ or SWalker this week.

Really been stressing about my team for the run home, with only 6 trades left. With Tohu and Luai out, and a number of SOO unlikey to back up i may only have 15 next week, I want to save trades this week, but also want to retain top 1k rank. With 68k ITB, my current team prior to trades is:
    Cheese, Simpkin
    IPap, JFH, Uto, Ogden
Tohu, Crichton, CHN, Barnett, Topine, Burbo
    Hughes, Burton
    Cody, Luai
Hynes, Garrick, AJ, To’o, Talakai, Cini
    Trbo & Gutho

Thinking of Tohu to AFB, or Tupou – though leaning towards AFB as I have a decent 4 CTW combo, with Hynes I can sell to Fifi or Papy next week.
If I hold the second trade I can go Uto to Haas next week, or I can use the trade this week and go Luai to SJ. Rd 19 I can bring in Papy for Gutho and I’ll have 2 trades for run home.
    Thoughts?

Tohu out till rd22 according to NRL. Surely a sell?

I’ve been tinkering with ideas all day, and can go Tohu to AFB and Luai to SJ this week. Or Tohu to AFB, and Uto to Haas next week. So I guess the question is, SJ or Haas the better option for the run home? Have Walker as my other 5/8 so have some depth there, and Uto generally doesnt make my 17, but getting AFB would allow me to play ahead of Burton depending match ups.

Planning on Gutho to Papy, after Papy plays next and loses circa $70k. Have 6 trades to last till end of the season. So I think the safest play is to just suck up this week and hold tight.

Next week Hynes to Fifi, and then Rd19 Gutho to Papy.

My other thought is to go all out as my cash league I have an overall prize as well as H2H. Coming 2nd for both (#793 overall), and about 190pts behind overall leader. So I can go balls out and use 5 trades over the next 3 weeks:
Rd17: Gutho to Mulitalo & Luai to SJ
    Rd18: Hynes to Fifi
Rd19: Barnett to Papy and Uto to Nuff.

I should have pulled the trigger on Uto to AFB last week, but avoided as I probably wouldn’t have played in 17 as I opted to play Burton as last reserve, and wanted to save the trade. I am now $11k short to do this trade, so I think I just have to go without as backup FRF (already have JFH and IPap).

Alternatively I can sell Gutho for AFB/Ramien and go Luai to SJ, but will only leave me with 4 trades. I think I just have to cop Uto and Luai as back ups for the run home, thoughts?
