NFL Supercoach Final Word | Trades, Captains, and PODs Week 7

Week 7 is here, and it’s time to start using those trades (if you haven’t already).

I have 16 left, and I think I’ll be burning another three after a horrid Week 6 that saw my team score a disappointing 413…

It was my worst score of the season, and I think there’s only one man who can save me… Drake Maye.

For all the love I’ve been giving the Patriots QB, I still don’t have him in my team… But that’s about to change.

And what better time to do it? We’re treated with a Patriots vs. Bears blockbuster on Thursday Night Football, so hopefully we’ll all be watching a Maye masterclass in primetime.

Speaking of gun QBs, did I mention Josh Allen is on a bye?

Embed from Getty Images

Yep, Supercoach’s best player is having a rest this week. If you don’t own him, well, you should. And if you do own him, please don’t sell – you will regret it.

Put him on your bench for a week and fill the gaps where you can. That’s what I’ll be doing, and I’ll explain how I’m doing it in my trade plans.

Week 7 Trade Plans

No Allen absolutely sucks, but it’s not the end of the world. Move him to your bench and sub in that QB that’s been warming the pine all season.

That might be a problem if you have Fernando Mendoza, and that’s exactly why I’m trading him.

Mendoza has actually lost money, playing very limited minutes in a Raiders side that is probably overachieving with Kirk Cousins at QB.

Las Vegas are playing the long game with Mendoza, with most experts not expecting him to start until at least Week 12.

Luckily for coaches, there’s a great trade option with solid job security.

Embed from Getty Images

I’m of course talking about Eagles QB Tanner McKee. Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for the season with blood clots, and this has opened the door for McKee to have the starting role for the foreseeable future.

He’s only $6.4 million, has a BE of -4, and put up a solid score of 25 last week.

McKee isn’t a world beater, but it’s rare you get a cheapie QB that drops in your lap like this, and I’d be encouraging all coaches to pick him up – especially with Allen on a bye this week.

As mentioned earlier, the other QB I’m going to bring in is Drake Maye. I’ve been running Nico Collins in my flex, and that’s been a huge mistake.

Embed from Getty Images

Collins has scored 16 and 18 over the past couple of weeks, and it’s now a crowded wide receiver room in Houston with Tank Dell returning and Marvin Harrison Jr arriving from Arizona.

His BE has jumped to a massive 53, and I’m selling before he starts losing money.

Luckily, I have enough money in the bank to do a straight swap to Maye, so it’s an easy trade to make. I am very excited to run Allen and Maye as my QB/Flex combo for the run home.

My third and final trade is Denzel Boston to Omar Cooper Jr. Boston has had moments of brilliance this season, and he’s not a must-trade by any means, but I’m happy with the $5.5 million he has made and looking elsewhere to make more cash.

Embed from Getty Images

Cooper Jr. is the obvious option to trade down to and save some cash. He’s bottom dollar, coming off a score of 38 and has a very attractive -23 BE.

The Jets rookie had 103 yards and a touchdown against a very good Patriots secondary, returning from injury with a bang.

This week the Jets play the winless Dolphins, so I’m hoping he will find the end zone again and start making us some money.

Week 7 Captaincy Plans

I can’t captain Josh Allen this week, and it’s probably a good thing – he let me down last week!

Instead, I’ll be putting the VC on Maye, with the Patriots playing the early game and hopefully giving my team a hot start to Week 7.

Embed from Getty Images

Maye has the highest average in Supercoach over the last three weeks, averaging a huge 59 points per game. That’s 11 more points per game than Joe Burrow in second.

It’s been an incredible turnaround from Maye, with his slow start to the season looking incredibly worrying for owners and Pats fans alike.

But that’s all changed. Since the Jags game, he has thrown for 11 touchdowns, averaging 327 yards per game. More importantly, he’s only thrown one interception.

It should be a high-scoring game against the Bears, so I think he’s a great option for the VC this week.

With the VC on Maye, my C will be going on Jahmyr Gibbs.

Gibbs is having an incredible season. He has nine touchdowns in five games, 747 all-purpose yards, and is averaging a whopping 55.6 points per game.

If that’s not enough, his match-up with Green Bay this week is mouthwatering.

A few weeks ago, the Packers gave up 244 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns to the Falcons.

Bijan Robinson had 194 yards and two touchdowns. He’s perhaps the only running back in the NFL on Gibbs’ level, and I’m sure Gibbs will have those types of numbers in mind when he runs out on Sunday.

Embed from Getty Images

Week 7 PODs of the Week

Germie Bernard (WR) $6,980,000 – 2.5% owned

If you listen to the podcast, you’ll know myself, Clutz, and Funky are big fans of this guy.

In fact, the only reason I’m not getting him in this week is because Cooper Jr. is slightly cheaper.

If you can afford his slightly higher price, Bernard is an incredible cheapie POD option for this week.

In his last two games, he has 21 targets, 17 receptions, 167 yards, and a touchdown. He looks so, so good.

More importantly, he’s got a BE of -28 and is projected to go up by a massive $2.4 million this week.

His productivity shouldn’t slow down any time soon. Roman Wilson and Michael Pittman Jr. are on IR, and he’s emerged as the clear WR2 in Pittsburgh.

Embed from Getty Images

Blake Corum (RB) – $8,630,000 – 1.4% owned

This one might be a bit left field, but Blake Corum is trending in the right direction.

He has scores of 28 and 25 over the past couple of weeks, and he’s quietly taking carries off Kyren Williams in LA.

To add to this, Williams spat the dummy to the media about how he’s being used, and it just seems he is out of favour at the Rams.

This is all great news for Corum. LA have a great O-Line, and Corum is looking like one to watch over the next couple of weeks.

He’s cheap, has a BE of -11, and has a very favourable schedule coming up. If you want an affordable RB with genuine upside, he could be your man.
