EPL Supercoach | Best strategies for the 2026-27 season


<p>Supercoach EPL kicks off in less than a month. I would say we are back, but it feels like we never left.</p>



<p>The marathon Premier League season went almost straight into the World Cup, which only ended a couple of weeks ago.</p>



<p>Supercoach World Cup was a fun little break from the longer format, but we are back to EPL now!</p>



<p>Last season was the first of Supercoach EPL, which left lots to be figured out along the way. </p>



<p>I managed to finish 95th, largely thanks to a few strategies I stuck by, so what better for my first article of the new season than to look at my top lessons learnt from last season. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Availability is the best ability</strong></h3>



<p>We will start with an obvious one, in that availability is always the best ability.</p>



<p>Part of this is alluding to players who can stay injury-free, but more so, the players who can stay rotation-free.</p>



<p>There is nothing worse than seeing one of your Supercoach players named on the bench an hour before kick-off.</p>

<p>Rotation is common in the Premier League, particularly for the bigger clubs with lots of depth.</p>



<p>At the start of the season it shouldn&#8217;t be as much of an issue, but as the season goes on and European and cup games start to be played, the rotation risk only increases.</p>



<p>This is why it is crucial to go for the players that are nailed on for 90 minutes.</p>



<p>At the start of the season, there is always some uncertainty around team sheets, etc, so could it be worth starting safe with familiar faces, rather than risking it and starting with the new, exciting signings?</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Trades are limited and valuable (please save them)</strong></h3>



<p>Many people learnt this the hard way. </p>



<p>I am not sure exactly how many trades we were given last year, but they were strictly rationed to say the least. </p>



<p>EPL Supercoach and its 38-round season is the definition of a marathon and not a sprint. </p>



<p>Unfortunately, many teams burnt their trades early and were left to crawl through the last 10 rounds with little to no trades.</p>

<p>Having trades up your sleeve for late in the season is particularly important for so many reasons:</p>



<ol>
<li>To deal with injury and resting carnage which inevitably increases as the season prolongs</li>



<li>To react to the firing and struggling teams, the teams with something to play for and not&nbsp;</li>



<li>To maximise the chaos of double and blank game weeks which can be season-defining</li>



<li>To make late season POD moves if wanting to chase ranks</li>
</ol>



<p>So lesson one is to save your trades when possible. </p>



<p>Although it&#8217;s easier said than done, try to keep trades up your sleeve for the back end of the season when chaos inevitably strikes. This is where you can really fly up those ranks.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Don’t overreact to price changes </strong></h3>



<p>Breakevens this, breakevens that. If you also play NRL and/or AFL Supercoach, you would know the importance of breakevens. </p>



<p>Early in the season especially, it is all about growing your squad value so you can eventually have more premium players in your side. EPL is no different. </p>



<p>You start with a limited salary and want to build value as quickly as possible.</p>



<p>However, one thing I recognised early on last season is that player prices fluctuate a lot. </p>



<p>Therefore, there is no need to buy every guy with a low breakeven. </p>



<p>There will be plenty of them throughout the season; it only takes 1 or 2 big scores for someone&#8217;s price to skyrocket. </p>

<p>Only bring in the low breakeven players who you believe can continue to score well, at least in the short term while you ride the price rises. A player can fall in price just as fast as they rise.</p>



<p>Selling high and buying low is also extremely doable.</p>



<p>When these premium guys get in form, they can peak at crazy high prices, but a few quiet games and they are as cheap as chips. </p>



<p>At a stage last year, you could have traded out Dango Ouattara for Erling Haaland for a profit!!!</p>



<p>Basically, don’t waste your trades chasing all these price changes.</p>



<p>I stuck by this strategy last season and still managed to afford anyone I wanted to by basically halfway through the season. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>VC Loop at Goalkeeper</strong></h3>



<p>If you are not aware of what I mean by VC loop, it is where you put your vice-captaincy on someone who plays earlier in the week.</p>



<p>If they score well, you can captain a non-playing player and your VC score will double instead. </p>



<p>The best way to do this is by having a non-playing bench keeper, preferably from the team of your starting keeper. </p>



<p>This will maximise your chance of having a free crack at the VC loop every week. </p>



<p>Why is it free? Well, if you do decide to loop and captain your non-playing keeper, you will still get your other keeper’s score as an auto emergency.</p>

<p>Last season I had David Raya from Arsenal as my keeper, and my bench keeper was some guy called Hein, I think, also from Arsenal. </p>



<p>I think I ended up using the free loop more weeks than not. Although sometimes I lost out on a few points, it was usually worth it for that extra security of a good captaincy score.</p>



<p>Of course it was situational, but my rule of thumb last season was to loop anything around 13+.</p>



<p>Captaincy scores can make or break your week.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Wrapping it up</strong></h3>



<p>That&#8217;s all of the overarching strategies that I stuck by last season that managed to get me a top-100 finish; hopefully they are of some help.</p>
