NRL Supercoach | Clem’s Captains, Round 16 Skippers


<p>As another major bye round passes us by, let us all take a moment to pause and give grateful thanks.</p>



<p>To <strong>Herbie</strong> <strong>Farnworth</strong>, for his services to SuperCoachers in coming to Australia a year too late to be Origin eligible.</p>



<p>Truly, he is a man of the people.</p>



<p>And how many of us were saved by Vice Captain Sir Herbie and the Bye Round Loop?</p>



<p>In a round where my team was besieged by trauma, my hand is straight up.</p>

<p>And after a score of 988, the Friday Beers saw red arrows for the first time these byes, dropping 60 spots to come into Round 16 in 253 place.</p>



<p>When red arrows feel like a win, you know it was traumatic.</p>



<p>Now it’s become a bit of a habit of mine to write these articles in random places in the back of cars.</p>



<p>Remember the time I wrote the final Captaincy article for the 2022 season in the backseat of a car in 150% humidity (no aircon) as it was erratically driven down the backstreets of Bali for 4 hours so my friend Sally could get a photo with a fish?</p>



<p>Then there was that time I had to pull over on the side of the road on an 8-hour drive to the Gold Coast and make myself comfortable as I wrote the entire article in the notes app of my phone, because my laptop gave up the ghost mid-drive and with it went the entire article I’d almost finished (writing a 1,500 word essay from scratch on your phone is truly not something I’d recommend).</p>



<p>And now I find myself once again sitting in the backseat of a car in the middle of the Blue Mountains on the way to Orange attempting to finish the article before we reach our first winery…</p>



<p>Because it’s time for a girls’ trip and I am overjoyed to report at least two of these friends watch footy, so it is highly appropriate for me to bring out the Kayo on my phone whilst sampling Orange’s best food and wine.</p>

<p>One of the girls even just asked me about her SuperCoach team. And I am in raptures of joy.</p>



<p>A girl’s trip with a side of footy and SuperCoach. Stunning. Ideal times.</p>



<p>And onto Round 16, and we find ourselves staring down the face of the second mini-bye round. And while it’s nowhere near as tricky as the literal hell of last round, we still have key SuperCoach teams &#8211; the Broncos and the Bunnies on the bye, and also the Eels missing too. Plus, we have Origin stars confirmed out, a bunch under the ‘will they or won’t they play’ cloud, and Spy brining in ALL my players.</p>



<p>At this point I may as well have given him the blueprint for my team at the beginning of the season. The kids copied me all year, and now he’s bringing in <strong>Jenkins</strong> as well – let’s hope poor Milky avoids the curse of the Spy and the fate of Simi and KPP…</p>



<p>And yes, I know they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I sincerely wish you could put your team behind closed doors to avoid this utter level of intrusion and having to allocate trades to combat the Spy curse.</p>



<p>Now without further ado, let’s jump into the Captains of Round 16:</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Greg Marzhew</strong></h2>



<p>The last time the Dragons faced the might of big <strong>Greg</strong> <strong>Marzhew</strong>, he ran over <strong>Setu</strong> <strong>Tu</strong> five times. 207 points. One of the highest SuperCoach scores of all time. Glorious scenes for owners.</p>



<p>And tonight, at 8pm, there’s a good chance he could do it all again.</p>



<p>While he’s been a little lighter on the scoring front over the last few rounds with a 3-round average of 59, and dare I say it, the Dragons are playing well enough to beat the bye&nbsp; – tonight could be the night Big Greg punishes everyone who lost faith in him and dropped him from their teams…</p>



<p>VC only, but definitely do it if you think he’s going to carve up the Dragons again.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Herbie Farnworth</strong></h2>



<p>And what do I need to say about the Saviour of Round 15 that hasn’t been said before.</p>



<p>Two tons under his belt in his last three games. 137 points last round, a try and two try assists. A literal family feast of points for Sir Herbie.</p>



<p>Now up against the Tigers who don’t exactly scream ‘defensive powerhouse’ Herbie Farnworth is the safest VC of the Round.</p>



<p>Even if he doesn’t score, your literally guaranteed about 1000 offloads to go with his 2000 tackle-busts.</p>



<p>Truly – a man of the people.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Terrell May</strong></h2>



<p>101 points last round, <strong>Terrell</strong> <strong>May</strong> proved once again he is one of the safest Captaincy choices in the game.</p>



<p>85 points in base is literal God-level, and with a 3-round average of 93 if you just want to chuck the VC or Captaincy on safe points, Terrell is your man.</p>



<p>Just be mindful if you Captain, you’re going to have to VC in the Knights game – but Terrell is a great option if your Knights VC has gone bust or if you don’t own Herbie (why? And what are you doing every time the Dolphins play? There isn’t a couch big enough to hide behind).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Sua Fa’alogo</strong></h2>



<p>Another week and another round to rue the day I traded out <strong>Sua</strong> to jump on the <strong>Reece</strong> <strong>Walsh</strong> rollercoaster.</p>



<p>But it is what it is and now I face a decision – bring back Sua or hope whatever winery we’re at on Sunday doesn’t have Wi-Fi.</p>



<p>Because there is nothing scarier than watching Sua run straight through a team and not have him in your side. Or checking the SuperCoach app thinking you’ve escaped as a non-Sua owner to find out he’s gone from 20 points to 120 points in the space of 10 minutes.</p>



<p>A season average of 82, 102 points last time he faced the Raiders, DEFINITELY due a try after not scoring in his last four games.</p>



<p>If you own Sua you have to at least consider giving him the armband.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Other Choices</strong></h2>



<p>This round there’s a plethora of pod-choices for your armband. With players returning, will they or won’t they question marks over Origin stars returning, and players like Jenkins with no ceiling, if you’re looking to go a bit against the pack – this could be the round to do it.</p>



<p>With a 3-round average of 89 and two tons in his last 2 games before injury – if you’re one of the handful bringing <strong>Bradman</strong> <strong>Best</strong> in, a sneaky VC wouldn’t go astray against the Dragons.</p>



<p>148 points to <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Jenkins</strong> vs the Tigers last time he played – if he can repeat that performance vs the Titans this round and you’ve got the VC on him you’d be banking on him adding two more to his 18 try haul.</p>



<p>And HE’S BACK! If you’re bringing in <strong>Tommy</strong> <strong>T</strong> for his first game back since Round 7 – it Is your very DUTY to give him some sort of armband vs the Bulldogs.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Verdict</strong></h2>



<p>I want to go rogue, but I know I’m going to play it safe and do a Herbie VC. Unless I get an injection of courage and go with my gut and do Greg Marzhew. I’ve also just discovered Cleary is in fact out – so my decision is made and Sua is coming back into the team – if I’m questioning where my trades went at the end of the season, two words – Fullback Roulette.</p>



<p>But whoever you Captain, I hope they score you a ton, and you have the best weekend…</p>
