AFL Supercoach 2026: St Kilda Saints 2026 Squad Analysis


<p>St Kilda were one of the most active teams during the trade period, landing a host of talented players from rival clubs.</p>



<p>Headlining the list of additions is former Sun Sam Flanders, who appears set to slot straight into a midfield group that parted ways with former skipper Jack Steele.</p>



<p>Ross Lyon’s side also managed to pull off a double coup, adding ruck Tom De Koning and defender Jack Silvagni as free agents from Carlton.</p>



<p>Throw in veteran Eagle Liam Ryan and all of a sudden the Saints will look vastly different in 2026 as they try to make their move up the AFL ladder.</p>



<p>Let’s take a look at St Kilda’s SuperCoach prospects for the upcoming season.</p>

<p><strong>Analysis: </strong>There’s been plenty of change here for the Saints. Their quartet of star recruits could all feature in Opening Round, while Mattaes Phillipou is also putting together a strong summer after an injury plagued 2025 campaign. Star forward Max King is yet to shrug off his own injury concerns, likewise Liam Henry. Those around the mark for selection include Tobie Travaglia, Hunter Clark, Hugh Boxshall, Dougal Howard and Dan Butler. Marcus Windhager and Darcy Wilson are among the big improvers internally as well.</p>

<p><strong>Verdict: </strong>Given their involvement in Opening Round this year, the Saints have a bye both in round 4 and 16. Post that early bye, their fixtures are pretty juicy with matches against Port Adelaide, West Coast, Carlton and Richmond between round 5 and 10. Additionally, their run post the mid-season bye is also pretty tasty, which coincides with SuperCoach finals in head-to-head leagues. They share a round 4 bye with the Giants and a round 16 bye with Geelong, Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>LOCK</strong></h2>



<p>Former Sun <strong>Sam Flanders ($396,600 FWD)</strong> is arguably the biggest lock in SuperCoach history. He ticks every box you look for when analysing mid-priced options. He’s at a new home and will therefore have a better role and he has scoring pedigree as well, having averaged 119 points per game in 2024. </p>



<p>If you don’t have him in your starting side, you’re missing out on a player who could quite easily be the F1 throughout the season. </p>



<p>Elsewhere, <strong>Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera ($622,300 DEF)</strong> caught fire in 2025 and will likely be amongst the top scoring defenders again this year. Wanganeen-Milera was elite as a defender at the start of the last campaign but entered the competition’s elite when he transitioned into more of a midfield role later in the year. </p>



<p>He adds something different to St Kilda’s midfield group and is a genuine matchwinner. Last year he averaged 122.8 points per game from round 11 onwards, a run that also included eight scores of 117 or more. There are two knocks on him however, the price is pretty high and he has that annoying early bye, but he might just be too good to pass up.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>POINT OF DIFFERENCE</strong></h2>



<p>Defender <strong>Jack Sinclair ($606,600 DEF)</strong> has been a reliable scorer in SuperCoach backlines for several years now, having averaged over 106 for four consecutive seasons. Sinclair is St Kilda’s designated kick-in player and often creates rebound out of the backline with his elite ball use and run and carry. </p>



<p>Like Wanganeen-Milera, the price and early bye is a nuisance, but he’s currently in less than eight per cent of teams and is a gun SuperCoach asset. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>CHEAPIES</strong></h2>



<p>Is this the year that <strong>Mattaes Phillipou ($168,400 FWD)</strong> finally gets an injury-free run and breaks out? Phillipou has had a strong summer so far and looks set for an advanced midfield role this season, the big query is whether or not he can stay fit. He has excellent job security and great scoring potential though and at that price point should be in almost every side. </p>



<p>Speaking of injury prone players, if <strong>Max King ($150,800 FWD)</strong> gets on the park he’s another cheaply priced player you could consider for your forward line. </p>



<p>Track ex-Blue <strong>Jack Carroll ($119,900 MID) </strong>closely in the AAMI Community Series, he’s been mooted for a role across half-back in 2026.</p>
