AFL Supercoach 2026: Port Adelaide Power 2026 Squad Analysis


<p>There’s been plenty of change at Port Adelaide over the off-season as they embark on a new era under coach Josh Carr.</p>



<p>The beloved Ken Hinkley has handed over the coaching reins and three players have called time on their AFL careers including Travis Boak, Willie Rioli jnr and Rory Atkins.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The Power have become somewhat of a second chance saloon in Carr’s first pre-season. Will Brodie has made his way across from Fremantle, while ex-Giant Jacob Wehr and former Blue Corey Durdin have also arrived at Alberton in search of greater senior opportunities.&nbsp;</p>



<p>After finishing the year in 13th place with a win-loss record of 9-14, it’s hard to see the Power improving dramatically, if at all, in their first year under Carr.</p>



<p>But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t consider Port Adelaide players for our SuperCoach sides.</p>



<p>Let’s take a look at Port Adelaide’s SuperCoach prospects for the upcoming season.</p>

<p><strong>Analysis:</strong> It’s always tough to predict a line-up before we see any pre-season games under a new coach, but the first dilemma for Josh Carr will be his ruck line. Dante Visentini is mounting a case to usurp Jordon Sweet as the number one ruck. Midfielder Ollie Wines will miss the first fortnight due to suspension, while veteran Sam Powell-Pepper is still on the recovery trail from a knee injury. That opens the door for new recruits Wehr and Brodie to be named in the initial best 23. Elsewhere, Harrison Ramm, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and Logan Evans will press their cases for a key defensive role, while the likes of Christian Moraes, Ewan Mackinlay and Manni Liddy are also on the fringes. </p>

<p><strong>Verdict: </strong>Port Adelaide have arguably the best start to the season of any club, which means you should well and truly look to cash in from a SuperCoach perspective. Given the Power don’t have any early byes either, it means starting any premiums should be a key focus when building your initial side. The Power share the round 12 bye with North Melbourne, Gold Coast and Adelaide. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>LOCK</strong></h2>



<p>Captain <strong>Connor Rozee ($568,500 DEF/MID)</strong> is arguably the best defensive premium to start in your SuperCoach side this year. Rozee’s positional shift to half-back last year saw him average 105 SuperCoach points per game, using his creativity with ball in hand to begin Port Adelaide’s transition from defence to attack. He also had a share of kick-ins as well, which is always handy from a SuperCoach perspective. </p>



<p>Elsewhere, midfielder <strong>Zak Butters ($654,800 MID)</strong> is another who should be close to a lock in your starting side. Butters is entering a contract year and will be looking to play some career-best footy to stump up the price of his next deal. He’s as tough as they come, finds plenty of the footy and has now averaged over 113 for three consecutive seasons. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>POINT OF DIFFERENCE</strong></h2>



<p>There’s been plenty of discussion around <strong>Miles Bergman ($447,400 DEF)</strong> this pre-season, mainly due to the possibility of an increased midfield role. Bergman is currently in 12 per cent of teams, but he himself recently admitted his role is still up in the air for season 2026. </p>



<p>That’s a bit of a concern, when you’ve got the likes of Colby McKercher, Archie Roberts and Nic Newman around a similar price point who all seem to have more locked in roles. Bergman is an elite user of the footy and can play both through the on-ball brigade or across half-back, but we also need to be mindful that he doesn’t play that defensive midfield role. Keep a close eye on how the Power line up in their practice games. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>CHEAPIES</strong></h2>



<p>Midfielder <strong>Will Brodie ($119,900 MID)</strong> has been stuffing the stats sheet at state league level for quite some time and could get an early club debut in the absence of Wines, but will he have any decent long term job security? In 2022, Brodie averaged 102.4 SuperCoach points per game from 22 matches, but outside of that, he’s never played more than eight games in a season. </p>



<p>Sure, he’s arrived at the Power hunting more senior opportunities, but he could also play a couple of games early and get dropped, becoming a donut on our benches. I think forward-turned-defender <strong>Todd Marshall ($147,900 FWD) </strong>is a far better cheapie option, given it looks like he’ll find a home in the backline under Carr. Kickouts are a possibility and we know he’s a strong mark and decent kick. </p>
