Bye Planning | Top 5 Origin Period Scorers by Position


<p>After weeks of speculation, the naming of the Origin teams lets us move ahead with our bye planning once and for all.</p>



<p>To help you in selecting which players to buy, hold or sell during this period, we’ve created total points projections by position for the period. This has been a really eye-opening exercise with respect in particular as to who some players are that we should target.</p>



<p>The NRL does a great job of planning the schedule to ensure the sides mostly impacted by Origin call ups won’t feature predominantly in the Major bye weeks (outside of the Roosters of course), and as such we have a pretty good idea of just how many games each player will feature in over the course of the eight rounds across Rounds 12 &#8211; 19.</p>



<p>I’ve factored in the players expected average, the opposition as multiplied it by the amount of games they will all play.</p>



<p>For those unfamiliar with how supercoach is scored throughout the Origin period it is as follows</p>

<p>Here’s a grouping of how the sides will show up during the six Major and Mini bye weeks across the eight games.</p>

<p>All the Calculated Totals are done by each player&#8217;s current average as at the end of round 11 times the maximum games they’ll play over this stage of the supercoach season. Also listed are the teams each player is against and the home / away teams.</p>

<p>There’s not a huge gap between the first and fifth best option at the position, but <strong>Wayde Egan</strong> who remains at POD ownership provides a great alternative for teams.</p>



<p><strong>Cameron McInnes</strong> isn’t expected to feature for the Blues this year and should also score well. With his dual, he’s a great player to target especially if you intend to pair him with a nuff in <strong>Kalani Going</strong>.</p>



<p>Despite a scary breakeven for <strong>Sandon Smith,</strong> as a goal-kicking half he still has great scoring potential and the zero from two rounds ago will drop out soon and his price will go up again.</p>

<p>The first thing to notice here is <strong>Payne Haas </strong>remains a premium scorer at the position. Ignoring the current injury issue he’s facing, the Broncos play all the mini byes and accordingly he will have ample opportunity to play First Grade and continue to score well.&nbsp;</p>



<p>If he does miss any action however and not back up, there’s some solid replacements available led by <strong>Joe Tapine</strong>. With <strong>Terrell May</strong> seemingly not in the mix for NSW and the rest of the list made up of Kiwis, the alternatives are great.</p>



<p><strong>Erin Clark</strong> is also worth highlighting as the only DPP player on this list, narrowly edging out <strong>Tino</strong>. The ability to use that dual for coverage could come in handy and seemingly he can continue to score well each week having pumped out a 70 with JFH returning to the side.</p>



<p>Don&#8217;t be alarmed with Round 15, the majority of the best players will not play however they will make up the points over the other rounds.</p>

<p>The Newcastle Knights and North Queensland Cowboys have elite coverage during the byes as the only sides to only have one bye in the eight games. This is where we see that show up for the first time with <strong>Dylan Lucas</strong> projected to score a whopping 140 points more than his nearest rival.</p>



<p><strong>Kai Pearce-Paul</strong> also makes the list and has been a POD player discussed on Playbook recently. <strong>Eli Katoa</strong> and <strong>Villiame Kikau</strong> are both projecting well and offer complimentary coverage with Katoa every mini bye and Kikau every major.</p>



<p>The standouts for me are <strong>Katoa</strong> and <strong>Haumole Olakau’atu</strong>, both with an easier draw ahead</p>

<p>The absence of <strong>Nathan Cleary</strong> is the biggest talking point here. Despite his improvising form of late, his lack of appearances during the Bye Period do significantly hurt him.&nbsp;</p>



<p>There’s a definite case to make him into <strong>Nicho Hynes</strong> if you do not own the Cronulla talisman. The other options are a bit more exotic, especially with <strong>Jahrome Hughes</strong> not quite stringing together the performances of late that you would expect from a side who is piling on the points.</p>



<p>The smokey in this list is <strong>Adam Reynolds</strong>, an accurate goal kicker, definite POD and an easier draw including 2 games against the Titans. Slight injury risk, but with <strong>Ezra Mam</strong> now back he can put together another string of quality games.</p>



<p><strong>Jamal Fogarty</strong> is also one of note as the Raiders are flying and he’s been one of the biggest beneficiaries with the goal kicking (aside from last round 4/8). With games against Souths, Tigers, Knights and Dragons he could put on a score in any or all of these games</p>

<p><strong>Jayden Campbell’s</strong> return two weeks ago reminded people that he has an incredibly SuperCoach friendly game. </p>



<p>But do not ignore <strong>Blaize Talagi</strong> who’s improvement of late is timed well with him needing to step into a more dominant role. His dual position also allows potential buyers to continue to get cash from <strong>Lhykan King-Togia</strong> and eventually sell him via duals.</p>



<p><strong>Cameron Munster</strong> has a low breakeven and is a good hold, but arguably not a purchase given he may earn a rest after his Origin appearances.</p>



<p>Don&#8217;t panic with round 18, all bar <strong>Lachie Galvin</strong> are missing this round but by this time we&#8217;ll have enough depth to cover from other positions</p>



<p><em>** Ezra Mam has been omitted from this list as his 1 game this year is his highest ever in supercoach and with a career average of 54 misses this list</em></p>

<p>The Knights duo of <strong>Lucas </strong>and <strong>Fletcher Sharpe </strong>appear courtesy of the extra games they will play. That’s also a factor in <strong>Jaxon Purdue’s</strong> inclusion, albeit it is important to factor in his new role which will make his scoring less consistent.</p>



<p>Popular Round 12 purchases <strong>Kayal Iro</strong> and <strong>Herbie Farnworth</strong> both have solid matchups and try scoring ability.</p>



<p>For those looking thin on numbers for the 3 major byes <strong>Mark Nawaqanitawase</strong> should be worth a thorough look. The only player from the list below that plays in Round 18 and coming fresh off a bye, against the Tigers; very hard to pass up.</p>

<p>No prizes for guessing that <strong>Scott Drinkwater</strong> appears on this list due to that extra game the Cows play compared to his rivals. We are projecting him to be the biggest scorer at the position, narrowly outpointing <strong>Ryan Papenhuyzen</strong> and <strong>James Tedesco</strong> thanks to that extra game.</p>



<p><strong>Fletcher Sharpe</strong> will also score well in his seven games, whilst early season favourite <strong>Clint Gutherson </strong>offers good coverage and also has a favourable draw.</p>
