A few options at keeper (Peirson, Harper, Seifert) have delivered so far in round one. Peirson should still be priced reasonably (approx. $120k) and go into next round with a negative breakeven before a round 3 double. Likewise for Harper (approx. $65k with a breakeven around -5), although his job security could be in jeopardy when Maxwell returns.



If Inglis gets released from the Test Squad, he looks to be the only viable option with a double game at keeper this round. I think there are better trade targets at the Scorchers in other positions though.



Philippe and Duckett can be considered for their round 3 double. Again, I don’t know that I’d want to spend trades at the keeper position for them.



In round 4, Seifert could present a viable trade in option, if his game one form is anything to go by.

Round 2 targets:



Jake Weatherald &#8211; Adelaide Strikers



Chris Lynn &#8211; Adelaide Strikers



Ollie Pope &#8211; Adelaide Strikers



Sam Konstas &#8211; Sydney Thunder



Weatherald is the standout here. He is back to the form that saw him blitz a century in the 2017/18 BBL final. I like the idea of buying him for a 5-match stretch, including the Strikers’ two double game rounds. Hopefully over this period he can go big a few times.



Chris Lynn could present a viable alternative for coaches going without Matt Short, at around $100k less. I don’t like paying up for bat only players but am more partial too it when they can be held over a longer period. Lynn could be held for the Strikers’ two doubles over the next three rounds. During this time, he has three games at Adelaide Oval, one game at the Gabba and one game at Marvel stadium…. This sounds pretty good from a batting point-of-view.



I’ve also included Ollie Pope on the off chance that he jags an opening spot. It seems unlikely, as he’s more of a number 3/4 in T20s (stats per bigbashboard.com). However, if it were to happen, he’d be worth consideration with wicketkeeper DPP likely incoming in round 3.



Boy-oh-boy, what a performance from 19-year old Konstas in round one. If eye-test is anything to go by, he’ll be the cheapie of the season pending his amount of games played after getting named in the Australian Test squad.



I think the decision to buy or not will be very much team dependent, subject to your double game coverage and plans for upcoming rounds. Keep in mind that he’ll have a big negative breakeven, so if you want him, now could be the time (price at approx. 60k, B.E. approx. -50).

Hopefully Strikers cheapie Brendan Doggett gets named to play after missing the Test squad. If not, I probably prefer him over James Bazley, due to security of overs.



For those who have a trade to spare this round, Boyce or Lloyd Pope could be options to maximise double round players in rounds 2 and 4. Of the two, I’d lean towards Pope, given youth is on his side and his best Supercoach scoring days are likely still ahead of him.



There’s another big call to make this round on the Scorchers’ quicks. Jhye Richardson is now with the Test squad which makes the decision easier. The only concern would be if any don’t play both games, which would be a major issue if a VC fails in the Strikers game. For this reason, I prefer Behrendorff for anyone needing a captain from the Scorchers. Perhaps the answer is to boost to get both if needed?



Lance Morris could be a great POD and his Supercoach prospects further enhance while Jhye Richardson is unavailable with the Test squad. If I didn’t own Tye I wouldn’t be rushing to bring him in, given he only bowled three overs and lost his death role to Behrendorff. Again, he benefits with Richo out.

At just $121.8k, Spencer Johnson can be locked into trade plans for round 3 if he’s fit. Xavier Bartlett reminded everyone of his gun status with 3 for 25 from four overs. He’s expensive at over $200k but is an outstanding option for the round 3 double.



Sean Abbott represents immense value at just over $130k. Hopefully we can still pick him up around this price come round 3. His Test squad call-up obviously puts a red flag on him for the time being though.



Hosein has demonstrated his gun status in BBL season’s gone by. He is comparatively pricey at $196.7k though. One to weigh up against the likes of Bartlett.



Round 4 targets:



It’s probably too early to say for round 4 bowlers at this stage. We’ll need to wait and see how the Renegades and Strikers contingent look for value for their doubles. The likes of Bethell and Sutherland could present better options overall as allrounders.

James Bazley &#8211; Adelaide Strikers



Matt Short &#8211; Adelaide Strikers



To Short or not to Short could be the biggest decision of the season. A hamstring injury to Fabian Allen enhances the bowling prospects of the Adelaide skipper. Anyone who brings him in will be taking on a mega breakeven (around 250) and will be getting him at only a small discount on his starting price (approx. 290k).



As per dual SC Champion Andrew Langley’s expert advice, it’s also worth taking into account the toss of Adelaide’s first game of this round. Batting tends to be more favourable for batters and batting allrounders, so this would help Short’s case.



We also need to factor in our trade plans for round 3. Bringing in Short, you’d ideally hold him through till the Strikers round 4 double, which is a lot of cash to tie up. Perhaps there will be enough value in the likes of Spencer Johnson and a discounted Paul Walter at the Heat to make it workable.



All-in-all I’m leaning towards bringing Short in following the Allen injury, as I have the cash to do it. I think he’s still overpriced, but it’s points that will win Supercoach at the end of the day.



Fellow Strikers’ allrounder Bazley also warrants consideration this round, but I’d keep a close eye on the Strikers line-up. He was hit out of the attack and only bowler one over in the Strikers’ opening match. A promotion to 7 in the batting order could be on the cards though following the Allen injury.

If Davies or Kerr can keep their spot in the Sixers’ best XI when Akeal Hosein arrives, either could be good value for their round 3 double.



Paul Walter’s role looked good last night, bowling death for the Heat. Walter will hopefully come at a decent discount by round 3 (estimated round 2 price $175k, B.E. 99). I expect Spencer Johnson will probably be the main death bowler when he returns though.



Maxwell could be back in time for the Stars round 3 double. He’ll be hard to fit in given the price ($247.4k) and plethora of other options that round. This could make him a huge POD, especially factoring him as a VC option. &nbsp;

Bethell is a huge watch. If he picks up a few overs I like the idea of bringing in both him and Sutherland for round 4, covering the Gades’ fifth and sixth bowling options.



Whilst not overly impressive with the ball in round one, Dan Sams’ exploits with the bat showed why he is a Supercoach gun year-on-year. He’ll be important for the single gameweeks this season, so is one I’d consider for round 4.



For those without Matt Short in round 2, he still looms as a round 4 target, hopefully at a large discount.
