Round 19 NRL Supercoach Wrap: 7 Things We Learnt

Well, that is bye planning for 2024 done… For the most part!



We still have Round 20 in our sights but in the second year of the change to the byes, I thinks it’s safe to say it wasn’t all that bad!?



With only the 13 counted, it was a matter of finding that Mulitalo or nailing a Garrick or Campbell captain that kept you in the hunt as long as you had upwards of 13 you likely saw some rises in ranks.



Our attention now turns to one of the real hard weeks, Round 20. 



With 3 teams on the bye and Origin players backing up/not backing up/playing limited minutes, it’s a real minefield to get through. 



I think Team list Tuesday will bring more questions than answers. 



Trades are running low and standout performances in key areas will start to see some very different sides in the coming weeks. 



But plenty of questions remain – Is Cleary a must-have right away? Who to trade in for Api? Too late for JC or Turbo? Did it come home? The answer was No.



Turbos Hamstrings had the 13 solid starters only and the inclusion of Jayden Campbell was a nice way to enjoy a Saturday of footy. 



I finished with 951 and saw green arrows, albeit, 302 of them putting me 6,291 overall. As they say if you are not in the top 6,292 of players&#8230;

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size">1. Manly and Sunday arvos&#8230; Like a beer on a hot day</h3>



The Manly Sea Eagles. When God was making NRL sides he said make sure you play these boys on a Sunday at Brookie!



What an afternoon for Manly and their Supercoach Point scoring prowess!&nbsp;



Headlined by the return of Mr 2021, Tom Trbojevic, they carved the Newcastle on both edges and some very popular players posted some monster scores.



As mentioned, Turbo returned at fullback and didn’t look like he missed a beat. 



He was a bit tentative it seemed last week but this week was a different story. 



Trucking the ball up from all parts of the field and when it mattered most, laid on 2 tries and had one himself to finish the afternoon with 119. 



Updates weren’t kind, but those who moved early on the superstar fullback look like geniuses. 



He had a BE of 120 so will hold value for those looking to pick him up next week. 



Turbo wasn’t the only one to get in on the action, with 5 players breaking 100 including Lehi Hopoate who finished with a massive 132 after bagging a double and setting another up. 



He is another player non-owners could look to pick up with Koula set to miss another 3 or so weeks and still at a cheap price, a touch over $400k. 



Gets through a heap of work and was credited with 7 tackle busts.



Garrick was looking like he was due a fill up and toyed with the Knights left edge, but then at the 63rd minute, he was pulled for Faulalo which was a dagger for the 12% of those out there who captained the Manly centre. 



Still, he finished with 102, but seems like that was a big one that got away.



And Haumole joined nearly everyone’s Supercoach side this week and didn’t disappoint, strolling over for a try and scoring 73. 



Still time to jump on and DCE should be back, barring any rest at Origin.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size">2. JC rises again and brings with it, many more followers</h3>



JC has risen. Alert the townsfolk!&nbsp;



He didn’t quite roll a stone away and return, but it was a Supercoach sight to see him continue on his form of late



It took until 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon for all new owners and existing ones to breathe a sigh of relief as Des stuck with his man at 6 and for the flock fo new owners, myself included, it was an easy watch!



He kicked off proceedings with a line break and 2 try assists without registering a sweat. 



Sight to behold for new owners! He then continued his run knocking over 4 goals and setting another up late, he did everything and more asked of him in the Supercoach world and will make upwards of $130K and still have a BE in the negatives or at worse, single figures.



Owners of Keano Kini might feel a little hard done by. 



He has been outstanding for the Titans of late and a big reason behind their resurgence. 



Brimson though needs to be in the 13 and he appears to be the odd man out. 



A sell if still named in the 14.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size">3. Sharks back firing despite being Nicho-less</h3>



They looked a different outfit from the one we have seen in the past month or so and all lead by Braydon Trindall!



Sharks came out firing against a depleted Tigers side who had no answers for the resurgent Shire mob and pulling all the strings was their new no. 7 Tricky Trindall!



Available at HFB and 5/8, he seemed to be the forgotten man when many were discussing their Nicho replacements and he put on a show worthy of the number 7 jumper at Cronulla.



He was in everything, setting up 3 tries, having a hand in 2 more and bagging one himself. 



He also took on the goal-kicking duties which, in a drubbing like Friday, means the points just continue to pile on. 



But we aren’t one for chasing last week’s points are we? Maybe we are. 



Priced at around 500k come lockout, has the bye next weekend but then has the Cowboys, Souths, Titans, Newcastle and St George in the next 5 matchups, it doesn’t get much better for scoring potential. 



His early season form didn’t exactly set the world alight but with no Nicho, he might be the answer for some questions we didn’t know we asked.



Another who had a day out was Ronaldo Mulitalo! And didn’t he let the crowd know about it! 



Bagged a hat-trick which was a welcome relief for owners who have had a very lean 6 weeks. 



He has only managed 1 score over 56 in that time so his 3 try effort and 133 points came just at the right time. 



I would say you could play him on matchups, but who knows what you are going to get from him. 



A 33 when you play him and a 120 when he is on your bench.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size">4. Api hands owners more trade-ache</h3>



Friday could not have been a worse outcome for Api owners.



When they needed their man the most, in the round where only D Cook was the other highly owned Hooker, he just couldn’t get his side going and came away from Shark Park with an injury!



Was one player many would have traded in for this round and beyond, but an early sin binning followed by the calf injury, it was one to forget for Api owners.



Still yet to hear the severity of the injury but any more than 3 weeks out he is a sell. 



Unfortunately, just to rub further salt into said wound, he had a BE of 107 and only managed 27. 



Meaning he will leak around 70k and be around that 600k mark. 



There aren’t too many HOK at that price range that can do a job for you it seems. 



Connor Watson seems a likely replacement as does Reed Mahoney but it&#8217;s more trades for those to make at a time when we can barely afford to make some smart trades.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size">5. Newcastle targets fail to fire</h3>



The Marzhew spruikers last week have gone awfully quiet this week – myself included after a very Rounds 6-14 like performance. 



He was hampered by what appeared to be a cork, but either way the ball never found its way out to his wing, and he didn’t seem to go looking either!



Do we put this down to a “No Ponga” week? Newcastle couldn’t have put in a worse performance so that’s one way to look at it. 



Let’s hope so and he brings back those base stat numbers we have seen over the past month, otherwise, I don’t need him taking up cap space at this time of year!



Brailey was another that many owners held in the hope of big minutes in Round 19. 



Crossland took most of those and he now becomes a sell. 



Problem though is he has been putting up some really low numbers so you will need to find some funds somewhere to make a move and get rid of him. 



One to forget for 2024.  



And the Fletcher Sharpe experiment has not been fruitful either. 



Seemed to be in everything yesterday, but only finished with 50, credited with only 1 LB as an attacking stat. 



Will only make owners around $150K, much, much less than was touted. 



It does remain to be seen whether he nabs a wing or centre spot with a few injuries to the Knights backline and some insipid efforts.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size">6. Time for a spring clean</h3>



Ahh well now the major byes are done we can all start to move on some serious dead wood that has been hanging around our sides for far too long!



I’m talking about the Shaun Lanes, the Braileys, the Smithies. 



These are the main culprits needing to go, but even to a lesser degree we should be thinking about what to do with players like Galvin, Iro and Talagi.



Like Kirk Van Houten said, so long and good luck? I don’t recall wishing them any luck&nbsp;



Galvin has been rock solid all year but failed to do much on Friday night. 



We as Supercoaches have a short memory so will completely forget the 3RA of 74 he carried into the Sharks contest. 



Still one to look to move on if a Burton looks more likely.



Talagi is another who you could hold, but the Eels have checked out under Barrett and another that we can bank the cash and run.&nbsp;



Iro though I would look to maybe hold. 



Scores 50 without even trying and happened to find a try the other night to post 78. 



If the game was more in the balance, that score becomes 90.
