Round 16 NRL Supercoach Wrap: 7 Things We Learnt


<p>It&#8217;s Sunday nights like these I turn to Pitbull for some reassurance.</p>



<p>“This for everybody going through tough times. Believe me, been there, done that. But every day above ground is a great day, remember that.”</p>



<p>Thanks Pitbull, needed that after my dismal performance this weekend!&nbsp;</p>



<p>Last few weeks have been building nicely, even considered starting my own Supercoach page but now I must go crawling back to the overlord to ask for my “job” back as I crash back to earth.</p>



<p>Not even a Hawk Tuah could have gotten Turbo’s Hamstrings going this week as I battled my way to 853. </p>



<p>I&#8217;ve held some trades over this bye period but they&#8217;ll be no good to me if I can&#8217;t get them right! </p>



<p>This dropped me 2588 spots to 6980, comfortably in the top 7000. Round 17 is looking shaky and a nervous wait for team list Tuesday.</p>



<p>Here are the 7 things we learnt from NRL Supercoach Round 16.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>1. Bye planning can get in the bin</strong></h3>



<p>Judging on all the scores across the socials on Sunday, everyone else must have played with the full 17 and I only had 13! </p>



<p>The only explanation for the gulf of points.</p>



<p>I just can&#8217;t seem to get these by planning right!</p>



<p>Managed to roll out with 13 players but the late benching of <strong>Fa’alogo</strong> coupled with poor performances from <strong>Papenhuyzen</strong>, <strong>AFB</strong> and the <strong>Roosters</strong>&#8216; back three really put the brakes on what I had in my mind was going to be a good week.</p>



<p>I hope you all that they were able to find a few Titans players or one <strong>Api Koroisau</strong> and were able to post a big score!</p>



<p>I don’t remember last year being like this. </p>



<p>Unless it was just as bad and I somehow Men in Blacked it from my memory</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>2. It’s a numbers game: Don’t out-think the room</strong></h3>



<p>Hindsight is a wonderful thing. It allows us at 5:00 PM on Saturday afternoon to go back and look at <strong>Jayden Campbell</strong> stats since his return and question why on earth did I not see it!</p>



<p>A pair of 70s leading into a Saturday afternoon at the Gold Coast, goal kicking against a shaky Warriors defence and available at CTW and FLB!</p>



<p>He was pretty much screaming pick me pick me but alas I looked elsewhere. Did anyone else find him?</p>



<p>Its not like he was hiding or anything. There were some concerns about his injury history* and the fact he was playing 6 and not 1 but only the elite bang out a score like that!</p>



<p>*It appears he may have injured his hand. I&#8217;m not the NRL Physio but hands are one body part you need to succeed in NRL.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>3. Hughes stocks continue to rise</strong></h3>



<p>I&#8217;m not sure what the knock I had on <strong>Jahrome Hughes</strong> was about a month back but I&#8217;m stuck looking like a fool.</p>



<p>I&#8217;ve missed Hynes and now Hughes in the all-important halfback spot and don’t I let you know about it!</p>



<p>Another top shelf performance on Friday night with a try and two assists for his 90. </p>



<p>He now has scores of 95, 76, 117, 108 and 90 in his last 6 outings. </p>



<p>Oh and in further good news for owners, takes on the Raiders in Melbourne and the Tigers in Sydney.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Similar to <strong>Hynes</strong>, he gets a lot of try assists just being the last man to pass the ball or kick to the air. And that won&#8217;t be changing anytime soon with <strong>Munster</strong> still on the sidelines.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>4. The Dream to granting wishes</strong></h3>



<p>Remember <strong>Jahream</strong> the dream from last year? </p>



<p>Yes well, we have <strong>Kini</strong> the Genie this year and he is granting owners as many wishes as they want!</p>



<p>Sorry, that was bad&#8230; so bad, but it seems owners are the only ones who are laughing!</p>



<p>Third 100+ score in the past 4 weeks he has done a job and then some!</p>



<p>The Warriors made him look like 2021 Turbo and he put out a score to mimic that.&nbsp;</p>



<p>With <strong>AJ</strong> <strong>Brimson</strong> lurking somewhere in the shadows, it remains to be seen how much more we will see of the excitement machine but whatever Des has been outing in the gatorades up there has certainly worked!</p>



<p>&nbsp;Will make a stack more cash for owners and they can sit on their hands until AJ returns where they can trade him off and sit back and remember the good times.</p>



<p>Plays round 19 too. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>5. Teddy settles owners&#8217; nerves </strong></h3>



<p>Of all the 20000 plus that traded in James Tedesco, Zeus, the Greek God of weather must have anti podded him.&nbsp;</p>



<p>It seems the only way to stop him! </p>



<p>The rains came and put a dampener on Tedesco’s scoring ability in a bit of a dogfight against the Dogs, who boasted the best defence in the competition up until Saturday</p>



<p>He still finished with 84, the best owners could hope for considering he only nabbed a line break as an attacking stat. </p>



<p>Looked awfully threatening throughout the 80 and will hopefully see some dry footy soon.</p>



<p>It was a nice update for owners who captained him, making the decision not to loop Fifita make no difference at all after he downdated</p>



<p>He is a season long keeper and now the trick is to find a FLB to partner him with.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Takes on the Tigers fresh after they put 48 on the Raiders, but more enticingly, let up 24 points. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>6. Origin dilutes NRL more than ever</strong></h3>



<p>If we learnt anything this weekend – be it Supercoach or NRL, it’s that it might be time for Origin to take centre stage and let the rest of the players head to Bali.</p>



<p>There was no better advertisement for stopping the NRL through the Origin period than the Rabbitohs and Manly match. </p>



<p>Atrocious weather, atrocious football and atrocious Supercoach scores summed up the weekend for me.</p>



<p>When an NRL side is fielding <strong>Talau</strong>, <strong>Brooks</strong>, <strong>Simpkin</strong> and <strong>Hopoate</strong> as their spine and none of them are playing for the Tigers, you know it might be time for a change. </p>



<p>I hope the attendance on the gate didn’t charge too much!</p>



<p>On the flip side, it allows us to look at the next crop of stars coming through, but they have no bearing on my Supercoach side and I need all the help I can get at this stage of the season.</p>



<p>Unless it means <strong>Poasa</strong> gets a solid 50-minute gig then maybe ill change my mind</p>
