NRL Round 6 Supercoach Wrap: 10 Things We Learnt


<p>The man can’t take a trick! </p>



<p>Thankfully, I have a platform where I can air my weekly Supercoach grievances because otherwise I would need a lounge and someone to listen to me!</p>



<p>Round 6 was the 4<sup>th</sup> time this year I have copped a single digit score due to an injury! </p>



<p>The Hammer joined Piakura, Luki, and Garrick; and that doesn’t even account for the Tino debacle of Round 3. </p>



<p>But! We march on&#8230;</p>



<p>Like Bart writing on the chalkboard, there is nothing I can do about injuries, there is nothing I can do about injuries, There is noth..</p>



<p>I do have to think of the good times when things don’t go your way, like trading in DCE as a POD half for him to go 100+ or getting rid of Taylan May during his bye weekend at Mount Panaroma.</p>



<p>Turbos Hamstrings, despite our injury woes, held strong again but just can’t find that next level. </p>



<p>Finished the round with 1196 Moving up 1425 in spots to 7810 overall.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">10 things we learnt from Round 6</h2>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>1. Schiller the money-making machine!</strong></h3>



<p>This one feels different. Different from Galvan and VASTLY different from the dumpster fire that was trading in Talagi. </p>



<p>James Schiller has come from the clouds to boost our early season cash woes and is a genuine play each week! </p>



<p>Coming into Round 6 he had a BE of -116 and impressed again with a 2 try performance, finishing with 69 and a massive jump of 155k with this weekends BE of -60 still to come. </p>



<p>Might be worth north of 500k before we know it. </p>



<p>Is it too late to jump on? I would say no, but knowing you are paying 155k more than a week ago might turn you off him.</p>



<p>Now all we have to do as Supercoaches is rely on Ricky picking him every week.. </p>



<p>Maybe we need Albert Hopoate to start cooking again to keep him in the side</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>2. Lomax is a stud.</strong></h3>



<p>I remember the words from the Overlord in a podcast not all that long ago – “I just can’t trust a winger in a lower ranked side “ Or something like that. </p>



<p>You would have think he and the masses would have learnt from backing against Isaako last year.. </p>



<p>But Lomax! What a start to the year he is having. </p>



<p>4 scores over 93 including 2 triple figure efforts he certainly hasn’t thrown any toys out of said cots and has seemingly put the contract saga behind him. </p>



<p>Doing a mountain of work, scoring tries and is as good in the air as a Cirque du Soleil performer </p>



<p>Id say get him in but I’m enjoying his 6% ownership. </p>



<p>Warriors Roosters and Sharks are tough assignments coming up, but his base work should keep him ticking along.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>3. Turbo&#8230; Patience</strong></h3>



<p>Maybe add this to the “Things we learn every week” column; Turbo! </p>



<p>Explode brother I’m begging you! </p>



<p>I’m keeping the faith and I’m not looking to sell anytime soon but every week he looks like he could go 130+ but is a whisker away from doing so.</p>



<p>He was very good on Saturday against New Zealand setting up 2 tries finishing with 82, but in his 6 games to start 2024, has only found the line twice!</p>



<p>Currently sits 3<sup>rd</sup> for total points in the FLB position behind Ponga and Edwards, he heads into a Titans outfit who put in a lot of effort on Sunday for no result..&nbsp;</p>



<p>Do I dare say it? Turbo 150.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>4. FRF </strong></h3>



<p>Josh Curran solved a few headaches this week and going forward, but we are still all at sea it seems when it comes to nailing a FRF.</p>



<p>Terrell May found a few more minutes and was enormous on Thursday night, but who do we partner him with not named AFB if you are like me and Curranless?</p>



<p>Willison wouldn’t have started for many, yet he scored a try and finished with 80 in his 43-minute stint, Hughes was sin binned, a dagger for those who started him as he was well on his way to 50+ and Taumalolo can get in the bin.</p>



<p>I’m really keen on Mitch Barnett but its like paying for a service on your car. You know its good for you long term, but gives you no immediate joy or thrill</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>5. It&#8217;s time to go..</strong></h3>



<p>Danny Levi, Jack Bostock, Jaeman Salmon, Luke Brooks and anyone else who has peaked in price.</p>



<p>Time to make some tough calls and cut the cord, take the cash and run.</p>



<p>Levi had a game we all expected would come in Round 1 yet took 6 weeks to arrive as he only scored 18 in his near 60 minute stint. </p>



<p>Bostock has seemingly peaked also but is prob not as pressing as other trades. His late try on Friday gave him an additional 30 odd points</p>



<p>But! Be warned, I did it 2 weeks ago, thinking I had seen the best of Strange, only for him to score 96 and 83 to make an additional 150k.</p>



<p>Stupid hindsight.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>6. Joey Manu in the 1 jersey</strong></h3>



<p>We are all named Supercoaches for a reason. </p>



<p>Every one of us that watched the great man go about his work on Thursday all screamed the same thing – Get this man in the number one jersey!</p>



<p>It&#8217;s dead set like a cheat code whenever he gets named at Fullback and Robbo must, for the hoards of us Supercoaches find a way to get him in that jersey fulltime. </p>



<p>If it comes at the expense of Tedesco then so be it. </p>



<p>Had more running meters than Nedd Brockmann and was unlucky not to go 130+.</p>



<p>He was a popular VC choice and the way captains have been performing in 2024, was an easy decision to take the points.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>7. Nicho Hynes still yet to do anything spectacular.</strong></h3>



<p>As a non-owner I watched with a keen eye on Saturday night, making sure he didn’t do a 2023 Nicho and come away with 160 points.</p>



<p>Thankfully he didn’t, but judging on his score, I must have watched a different game! </p>



<p>Thought he would be lucky to get over 60 but somehow, somehow, he just finds a way to score well! </p>



<p>He did get a lucky 12 or so points on the bell thanks to an error by Souths in the in goal.</p>



<p>As for those owners out there, it has been a pretty underwhelming 5 rounds for Nicho. Has lost 158k in cash, yet to set a real try up not off his boot and hasn’t cracked 100. It&#8217;s an easy hold with Cleary not available, but for how long?</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>8. Angus our answer?</strong></h3>



<p>2RF has not been a happy hunting ground for us this year. </p>



<p>Hasn’t been as awful as its ugly older brother the FRF, but when only 4 players average over 70 and none in the 80s, it can be a bit thin looking for a gun that turns up each week.</p>



<p>But in all our searching, is Angus Crichton the man to take us forward?! Back-to-back weeks playing 80 minutes, he got through a stack of work scoring 79 which only included a try contribution! </p>



<p>Take those 4 points away and its 75 points in base and power.</p>



<p>I&#8217;ll happily trade a used up and downtrodden Burbo for a new and improved Crichton.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>9. Five Eighth moving forward</strong></h3>



<p>Strange. Galvin. Brown. Dearden. Who do we trust to do a job in the 6 jersey for us?!</p>



<p>Matt Burton currently is the top points scorer in the position and the only player to average more than 63 in 3 or more games. </p>



<p>Dearden has been football good, but not really Supercoach good and Munster has only had 2 games back, although they have looked Munsterlike.</p>



<p>He is a tricky buy to be confident with. Injuries plagued him to start the year and you just don’t know which Munster will turn up. </p>



<p>Priced at 730k with the Chooks, Rabbits and Titans incoming it’s a good play but one that comes with some risk &#8211; and with Origin looming, he is likely to be given a spell around then.</p>



<p>Galvin looks a likely backup but with the dearth of choices, you could seemingly run a Galvin Strange combo and not be to far off the mark.</p>
