Ranking the NRL Supercoach top five cheapies


<p>Hello everyone, I’m hyped to be back for another year of Supercoach content. I was thinking of dropping an early POD article but then realised it probably wasn’t what the majority of us needed right off the bat this season. </p>



<p>If you’re like me and stuck with guys like <strong>Jason Taumalolo</strong> and <strong>Keenan Palasia</strong> in your team, then you’ll probably be more focused on rectifying the mistakes in your starting side. </p>



<p>To rectify said mistakes you’ll normally need some cash, which is where cheapies normally get their time in the limelight. </p>



<p>Below are my top 5 cheapies (players under 350k) from a very strange and low-scoring opening round that had many close-to-million-dollar players totally blank on owners. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size"><strong>1. Morgan Smithies ($345,000) </strong></h2>

<p>No doubt about it, Smithies was the major player I overlooked to start this season. I hadn’t seen much of him and wasn’t sure what sort of minutes or work rate he would put out for the Raiders. </p>



<p>Turns out Smithies was bound for greatness, cranking out a nice 58 points, 42 tackles and 13 runs in 69 minutes at 0.8ppm. </p>



<p>Provided he can continue these sorts of stats then he will be an easy 200k leg up for owners over the coming 5-6 weeks. </p>

<p>A try for Burbo in Las Vegas bolstered him to a very solid 71 points in 71 minutes which included 31 tackles and 10 runs. </p>



<p>Provided he keeps this starting spot I don’t see how you can overlook starting him in your 17 in what looks like a very threatening and attacking Manly side. </p>



<p>Dual CTW/2RF status must also increase supercoaches appetite for Burbo.</p>

<p>KPP cranked out a huge 43 points in 40 minutes and looked like an impressive offloading/tackle-busting 2RF commodity for the Knights. </p>



<p>Provided his minutes ramp up this week then I can see him being a close to 60-point averaging player who will generate a ton of cash for supercoaches early doors.</p>



<p>The Knights looked horrible so it should only be a matter of time before we see some attacking stats fly this guy’s way. </p>

<p>I’m glad to have picked up and started this young whipper snapper of a fullback for the Warriors. </p>



<p>Despite it being very likely he only plays the opening 3 rounds of the season (CNK due back round 4), I think he showed incredible ball-running talent in a HIA-affected 49 against the Sharks which included 7 tackle busts in 18 runs. </p>



<p>He may be an absolute star of the future if he can work on his passing ability which was the only category he was seemingly a little lackluster. </p>

<p>An impressive 36 points in 34 minutes which included 35 tackles and 8 runs at 1.1PPM landed the young Penrith forward at number 5 on this list. </p>



<p>Provided his minutes stay static and his PPM doesn’t decrease, he should make a very quick 100k for owners which could be a crucial stepping stone in upgrading the wasteland that is FRF this season. </p>
