Final word: Skippers, weather watch, super PODs Rd 6

The season is heating up with five double game sides featuring in the next two rounds.



Most importantly, the all-conquering Perth Scorchers have back-to-back doubles in the next two rounds.



What makes this so important is that you can make a case for just about all XI players, including their entire bowling attack, but we can’t have them all.



It should spread out teams fairly well, leading to plenty of opportunity across the final rounds of the season which is exciting.



The Cooma Stallions went bonkers in Round 5, but were sadly quickly brought back down to earth in round 6.

Rain didn’t help as it continues to wreak havoc on BBL13, but it’s something we all face and get the good and the bad from each season.



If it impacts you negatively one week, there’s every chance you may benefit as a result the next.



We dropped to the high 5000s as a result, lift lads, there’s four rounds to go!!!

9:15PM: Scorchers v Strikers, Optus Stadium, Perth



Forecast:&nbsp;Sunny, 32 degrees, 0% chance of rain.



Verdict:&nbsp;I don’t think it rains in Perth



Thursday



7:15PM: Renegades v Hurricanes, Marvel Stadium, Melbourne



Forecast:&nbsp;Possible shower, 23 degrees, 40% chance of 0-1mm of rain.



Verdict:&nbsp;Likely all clear



Friday



7:15PM: Strikers v Scorchers, Adelaide Oval



Forecast: Partly cloudy, 32 degrees, 20% chance of any rain. The chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening.



Verdict: Likely all clear aside from potential thunderstorms, however being the last game of the round with both sides already playing it won’t really impact any trade/team plans anyway.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Looking ahead</h2>



The Melbourne Stars are on the bye in round 6 alongside the Sydney Thunder.



The Perth Scorchers come into two consecutive doubles in round 6 and 7 meaning they’ll be hot property, while they don’t have any byes to come.



Note that they do play five games in the next 10 days, so there’s every likelihood that players get a rest at some stage, most likely their quick bowlers.



The Adelaide Strikers are also on the double where they face the red-hot Scorchers in both games.



Hold strong on both Heat and Hurricanes players who have the double next round, while it could also pay dividends to go early on a player from either side if you’re already well stocked on Scorchers players.



Regarding loophole usage, the Renegades have late fixtures in each round to come making them hard to hold, along with a bye next round.



The Stars play in game one of round 7 and will be handy to use for looping purposes that week.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Super PODs</h2>



In the Final Word, we’ll look at the super POD options, the players at under 5% ownership (or around about) that could send you soaring (or falling) up the overall ranks.



They come with big risk, but the reward is immense if it comes off.



Generally speaking I’ll look to single game week players, with doubles upcoming, as the low-ownership double game round players on that given week tend to sky-rocket out of super POD territory once the round begins and trades are locked in.



Sean Abbott was last week’s pick but didn’t play due to the washed out Sixers v Heat clash.



Nathan Ellis 4.6% (top 10% overall rank)



The Hurricanes skipper is a proven performer in Supercoach and has the double game week next round.



Going early could pay off this week on an at times temperamental Marvel Stadium wicket, while also locking him in early for next round.



He was unlucky not to get more than the one wicket against the Thunder.



He’ll be highly owned next week, making him a decent early pick up with upside, despite boasting a breakeven of 49.



The downside to him is the inability to use the auto-emergency loop this round due to playing a later game.



Xavier Bartlett 6.4% and Nathan McSweeney 1.5%



The Heat pair are viable options for many of the same reasons as Ellis above with the double game week next round.



The bonus is that they play in game one of round 6 and can be used for looping.



I prefer Bartlett due to his allrounder role for the Heat, but both look solid plays.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Skippers</h2>



Far out, you could dead set go about 15 different ways this week.



Rather than select an exact order as usual, I’ll run through the pros and cons of different options.



The Scorchers and Strikers are on the double and face each other in their first game so you can only pick one.



The entire Scorchers bowling attack are strong picks, but also are at risk of a rest at any time in their next five games.



Off a big break between games, I’d say they’d stick to their strongest line-up for the first two games, but that’s just a guess, anyone could sit out. That makes them a risk to opt for.



Aaron Hardie looks a strong play and likely doesn’t rest, but has also only bowled 2.1 overs for the tournament.



This doesn’t rule him out as skipper as he’s in outstanding touch and any overs are just a bonus, but it does essentially give him just two major scoring involvements across the two games, maybe 2.5 scoring involvements if he jags an over or two.

Ditto for all the Scorchers quicks who are unlikely to bat.



Then you look over to the Strikers who will be the less fancied of the two teams.



Jamie Overton is batting at number five, bowling his four overs and will play both games barring unforeseen circumstances.



Could he be the best option?



Matt Short isn’t bowling too often and also faces the wrath of the star Scorchers bowling attack.



That’s a worry, although he is batting on two nice decks.



Seriously, take your pick…



It’s the most important captaincy week of the season, I’m torn between Jhye Richardson and probably, maybe, possibly Matt Short?
