Weekly wrap: Round 19 studs & duds


<p>I think the Round 19 Team of the Week speaks volumes about just how crazy and chaotic this season has been&#8230;</p>



<p>Charlie Curnow VC?! Uhhh sure.</p>



<p>Not only that, but the person currently ranked #1 has Joe Daniher as an F7 loop; proving just how left field you really need to go in order to reap the benefits of what has been a frenzied 2023 AFL SuperCoach season to say the least.</p>



<p>Elite Dadds managed to jump up 490 spots to 3018<sup>th</sup> thanks to a score of 2610!</p>



<p>Rory Laird as an out was a daunting prospect to face, but Jaspa Fletcher’s calmness under some <em>immense</em> pressure over the last few weeks allowed me to rest somewhat easy as opposed to those rolling with Cooper Harvey off the bench.</p>

<p>George Hewett was HOT on my list when I wrote this article two weeks back, and after a 127 on the weekend, I’m putting him <em>firmly </em>in the ‘must have’ category.</p>



<p>Although, I’m out of trades, the amusement is wearing off, and all I look forward to during the week now is resting my head on the pillow and tuning into another riveting episode of The Bear, season 2.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Essendon v Western Bulldogs</strong></h2>



<ul><li>With a three-round average of just 82 heading into this game, Jordan Ridley (138) owners were understandably at their wits end. It’ll be an anxious wait to see the full extent of the quad injury that left him iced up in the last quarter</li><li>Darcy Parish (109) and Zach Merrett (105) are about to go absolutely ballistic over the next month with games against West Coast and North Melbourne to come</li><li>Mason Redman (98) finally managed to make it through a game without copping any close attention</li></ul>

At $505k, he’s too expensive to consider</li><li>James Sicily (171) was monstrous in defence, taking 13 marks to go along with his 28 possessions</li><li>Will Day (90) moved back in the last quarter</li></ul>

<ul><li>Charlie Curnow (178) kicked 10 to take out the highest score of the round. He’s averaging 169 points in his last three games against the Eagles</li><li>Sam Docherty (156) split his time between midfield and half-back</li><li>George Hewett (127) led the Blues in CBAs, clearances, and disposals. Like I said earlier; if you have the trades, he’s a must-have at M9</li><li>Sam Walsh (109) was on track to smash the scoring record until he was forced off the ground in the second the quarter with a hamstring injury. In just 34% TOG, he managed to rack up 14 touches, 1 mark, 3 tackles, 4 clearances, and a goal&#8230; All while going at a ridiculous 100% DE</li><li>Alex Witherden (123) has a three-round average of 107</li><li>Andrew Gaff (114) wound back the clock with 30 touches and 10 marks. VINTAGE</li><li>Ryan Maric (67) has clutched up massively these last two weeks</li></ul>

<ul><li>Josh Dunkley (115) made his return, and while he had a quiet first half, he really lifted in the second to finish with a game-high 16 contested possessions</li><li>Lachie Neale (108) managed to shrug off some attention from Tom Atkins (50)</li><li>Darcy Wilmot (89) has a five-round average of 89</li><li>Jaspa Fletcher (66) continues to look right at home</li><li>In an extremely cruel blow, Will Ashcroft (59) ruptured his ACL. Sometimes footy really isn’t fair, and unfortunately this is one of those times</li><li>Tom Stewart (152) had 53% of the CBAs</li><li>Oisin Mullin (11) came on as the substitute</li></ul>

For whatever reason, he moved to De Goey in the last, allowing Nick to take control of the game and score 50 points in the fourth quarter</li><li>Dan Houston (120) has a five-round average of 137</li><li>Connor Rozee (117) has kicked multiple goals in each of his last four games</li><li>Zak Butters (101) had 31 touches</li><li>Darcy Cameron (135) had 45 hitouts</li><li>Tom Mitchell (30) is a shadow of his former self. He was subbed off in the third quarter</li></ul>
