Ownership analysis: Pain and gain points, Round 8


<p>The points were flowing in round eight with many coaches topping the 2,400 mark. </p>



<p>With upgrade season well underway, teams are loaded with premiums (who mostly scored well) and have fewer rookies on-field each week. </p>



<p>Is your structure keeping up with the top coaches? And how are you set up for the byes? (Apologies if you want to ignore them, it might be bye planning time)</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Weekly Pain and Gain Points </strong>(see explainer <a href="http://13.210.220.211/2023/03/23/ownership-analysis-pain-and-gain-points-round-1/">here</a>):</h2>



<ul><li>You should have a fair share of the “gainers” in your side as every man and his bulldog seemed to go 140+. Not a good week to be a Ziebell (179) skeptic or to anti-pod the Bont (164). Gulden (156) is probably the only one who can still jump on and get some value.</li><li>Pre-season “locks” in Sicily, Neale and Laird were all under par last week and are closing in on losing $100k from their starting price. Do you back in a return to form and pick them up on the cheap or watch them continue to burn their loyal owners?</li><li>Ridley is a trade out for me (concussion) and was not scoring well before this – look to get him to Oliver if you don’t have him or a cheaper option in Steele, Brayshaw or Parker. It should also be time to move on Grundy with Gawn back in the Demons side.</li></ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What you are up against – the top 1,000</strong></h2>



<ul><li>Below we can see the average top 1,000 structure as of round 8 and how they are set up for the byes.</li><li>Teams are approaching 16-17 premium or near-premium players with a value of around $12.8 million – these are the markers you want to keep up with.</li><li>The underlying problem for many teams is non-playing rookies, with the average now above four. This will hurt during the bye rounds if you don’t solve this before then.</li><li>Round 15 is shaping as the most difficult bye round with an average of seven premiums out and twelve overall plus the non-playing rookies – yikes. I would be saving a trade boost for this round and not trading in any more round 15 players.</li></ul>
