Trade guide: Analysing the most traded players, Round 7


<p>This SuperCoach season has been absolute carnage so far!&nbsp;</p>



<p>Sports journalist and SuperCoach expert Dylan Bolch will run his eye over the top trade targets each round and summarise which players are really worth trading in, and which are really worth trading out.&nbsp;</p>



<p>He will give a quick take each week on the ten most traded in players and the ten most traded out as per the official SuperCoach site.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Young Hawk Seamus Mitchell, the injured Touk Miller and maxed out rookies are just some of the talking points in this week’s guide.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>TRADED IN</strong></h2>



<p>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Seamus Mitchell ($123,900 DEF/FWD) – This week’s most popular trade in and best downgrade option. Mitchell has worked his way nicely into Hawthorn’s defence and after scores of 67 and 79, has a breakeven of -75. I’m not sold on his long-term job security, but this situation feels a bit like the Kade Chandler situation a month or so ago. He will probably stay in the team if he can keep his performances up but given there’s some talent waiting in the wings for the Hawks a dud game might see him back in the VFL. I’m jumping on board because there aren’t many other options, but don’t be surprised if he ends up in the 2s at some point soon.</p>



<p>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Alex Cincotta ($102,400 DEF/MID) – Cincotta was solid in his debut but one of the golden rules of SuperCoach are that you don’t go early on rookies. His VFL numbers have been elite, but the Blues have some half-backs to come back in the next few weeks. Wait a week and reassess, but the fact he has held with Saad and Docherty returning is a positive.</p>



<p>3.     Will Day ($454,000 DEF/MID) – Day has become a key part of Hawthorn’s on-ball brigade (58% CBAs) which has seen a positive increase in his scoring. After serving a two-match suspension, Day is well poised to continue his impressive 2023. Will he be a keeper by season’s end? The jury is still out, but the role is a massive tick.</p>

<p>4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Marcus Bontempelli ($656,00 MID) – I could roll out a bunch of statistics here, but the reality is that he is one of the best midfielders to own from a SuperCoach perspective. A weekly VC/C option, you need him in your team.</p>



<p>5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Stephen Coniglio ($499,200 MID/FWD) – A player who’s in the top six by average on their line, available for less than 500k? Yes please. After a lean fortnight, ‘Cogs’ has bounced back in a big way over the last two weeks. With a breakeven of just 49, now is a perfect time to jump on.</p>



<p>6.     Corey Wagner ($117,300 DEF/MID) – Wagner has been omitted from Freo’s side which means he is not a trade in option this week. Reverse those trades. </p>

<p>7.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sam Walsh ($610,900 MID) – Looking for a point-of-difference play in the midfield? Walsh could be your man. The gun Blue has made a triumphant return from injury in the past fortnight with scores of 104 and 130. He’s always been around the mark of the top eight by average (averages of 111 and 117 in past two seasons) so it could definitely be a good move.</p>



<p>8.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Caleb Serong ($594,700 MID) – Serong has been one of the surprise packets of the SuperCoach season so far, scoring at 115.5ppg. Whilst Fremantle have had a sluggish start to 2023, Serong has started like a house on fire. Andy Brayshaw has traditionally been the main guy in this midfield but Serong’s ability to impact games has certainly come to the fore. Can he keep it up? I’m a little bit wary given Freo will need to change something at some stage.</p>



<p>9.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sam Sturt ($123,900 FWD) – Sturt was on my radar in pre-season but didn’t get into the Freo 22, which doesn’t bode well for his job security. He’s a member of a highly dysfunctional forward line as it stands which makes me hesitant to bring him in, especially given the amount of non-playing rookies many SuperCoachers have in their side at the moment.</p>



<p>10.&nbsp; Jack Ziebell ($467,000 DEF/FWD) – Will Ziebell be a keeper by seasons end? I had question marks over Aaron Hall’s addition to the team last week and how it might affect Ziebell, but JZ was still able to churn out a 111. His dual-position status is hugely appealing and breakeven of 51 means you won’t get him any cheaper.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>TRADED OUT</strong></h2>



<p>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Touk Miller ($592,600 MID) – Miller has suffered a knee injury and is set for an extended stint on the sidelines. Trade.</p>



<p>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Lachie Cowan ($204,800 DEF) – Cowan has been managed for the clash against the Eagles, but I think his race has been run anyway. His breakeven is already 41 and he is only averaging 45. Time to downgrade him to a player like Seamus Mitchell.</p>



<p>3.     Darcy Wilmot ($251,600 DEF/MID) – Wilmot had his worst game of the SuperCoach season last week, which means his breakeven has quietly crept up to 38. The fact he is a warm body means I am holding him, but if trading him allows you to upgrade elsewhere then go for it.</p>

<p>4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Conor McKenna ($302,600 DEF) – McKenna’s breakeven is up to 62, but he seems to be pretty reliable for a 55 each week at a minimum. I’ll be holding him this week, because given how volatile rookies have been I’d rather have the safety of McKenna’s scoring, even if he loses a few dollars this week. I’ll reassess in round eight.</p>



<p>5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Will Phillips ($269,400 MID/FWD) – The fact that Phillips hasn’t returned to the side with LDU out means his job security is really ordinary. Trade him out now, you’d hate for him to come on in the last five minutes as a sub and for him to lose cash.</p>



<p>6.     Jason Horne-Francis ($399,500 MID/FWD) – Horne-Francis had his worst game of the season from a SuperCoach perspective last week, scoring a measly 45 points. However, prior to that he was going at 89.2ppg. Whilst I don’t think JHF will be a keeper by any means, it’s likely that you have bigger issues in your side at this point in time and I’d prioritise fixing those first. I’d rather have a JHF on field who’s a chance to score 90, then a rookie who at best goes 50.</p>

<p>7.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mattaes Phillipou ($261,800 MID/FWD) – Phillipou had been a pillar of consistency in the opening five rounds but came crashing back down to earth with a 39 against the Blues. He’s one of those guys that you can hold or trade pending other rookies in your side. Breakeven is up to 44 but won’t severely bleed cash if you hold, whilst he’s also probably close enough to having maxed out that moving him on won’t burn you.</p>



<p>8.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Luke Davies-Uniacke ($560,200 MID) – LDU has been ruled out with a heel issue today, which is incredibly frustrating for owners. There is no timeline on his return which makes it a tough decision as to whether you hold or sell. I’d be inclined to wait it out as long as possible, ideally find out a return timeframe and go from there. Two or less, hold, anything more, trade.</p>



<p>9.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cam Mackenzie ($245,100 MID/FWD) – Mackenzie has been omitted this week and with a breakeven of 79, it’s time to go. That sub affected score two weeks back really hurt his cash generation.&nbsp;</p>



<p>10.&nbsp; Reuben Ginbey ($288,900 DEF/MID) – Ginbey was a popular trade out last week but bounced back with his highest score since round three (62). He looks tired and will need to be managed at some stage, but his role and scoring potential means he is probably a better hold than someone like Cowan or Wilmot who are not great on-field options.</p>
