Squad Breakdown: Richmond Tigers 2023 SC analysis


<p>Arguably the greatest team of the last decade, the Tigers will be looking to bounce back after a season to forget in 2022.</p>



<p>They still managed to make finals, but narrowly lost to the Lions in the Elimination Final and were sent home packing.</p>



<p>A solid trade period where they managed to pull Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper from the Giants will heavily boost their credentials heading into season 2023, but an ageing squad means that the Tigers’ hopes of another flag are slowly dwindling.</p>

<p>I’m glad his ownership is as high as 56%, but I have to question what the remaining 44% are doing?!</p>



<p>After being edged out of the midfield at GWS and forced to play more forward than he would’ve liked to, he got his dream move to the Tigers; a place where on-ball &nbsp;opportunities are plentiful with an ageing Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin making their transition to the forward line.</p>



<p>Yes, Taranto will still have a forward rotation, but it will be nothing like what we saw at the Giants.</p>



<p>Timmy T got his hands on the footy plenty of times against the ‘Dees and managed to rack up 124 SC points.</p>



<p>He’s way under-priced for the scoring potential he possesses, so get him in if you haven’t already.</p>

<p>An injury affected 2022 means Jacob Hopper is coming in with a breakeven of just 60.</p>



<p>This is a guy who hasn’t dropped below an average of 90 since 2018.</p>



<p>Sure, he’s at a very awkward price, but price is irrelevant when it comes to him.</p>



<p>He’s going to average 90+ at the very minimum and I’m confident we’ll be seeing him at M8 ahead of Round 24.</p>



<p>Maybe even M7 depending on how Ashcroft goes?</p>

<p>You’ve probably never heard of this bloke, and to be honest neither have I.</p>



<p>However, recent reports are suggesting that the Tigers are prepared to unveil him in front of 90,000 at the G for their Round 1 clash against the Blues.</p>



<p>The mature ager played 91% game time against Melbourne last weekend and racked up 65 SuperCoach points.</p>



<p>He first made a name for himself when he lined up on Dustin Martin during various match simulations at training where he was impressive.</p>



<p>I have a feeling he could just be a placeholder until Josh Gibcus returns from injury in Round 5, but by that point he could definitely have made enough for you to cash in.</p>

<p>The end is near for Dustin Martin.</p>



<p>Constant injuries, occasional personal breaks, and a change in roles just makes him totally irrelevant this year.</p>



<p>He won’t be spending much time in the middle, in fact, I doubt he’ll be leaving the forward 50 at all.</p>



<p>Perhaps the injury to Dion Prestia will push the door slightly ajar for Dusty, but for the time being he’s going to have to heavily rely on goals to score well.</p>
