Spy Talk: Trade plans and tactics, Round 4

<p>G’day you legends,</p>



<p>I can confirm I am in QLD officially and in the midst of my third holiday beer whilst watching the BBL double header, Stoinis is back bowling and Nanny is entertaining my 3-year-old for the arvo. How bloody good!</p>



<p>The next 2 rounds are interesting. Round 4 sees every team on a single game week. This is great for the game in my eyes!</p>



<p>However, just when you thought you could rest easy you look to round 5 and see Adelaide and Hobart on the bye and the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers on the double.</p>



<p>Mayhem as usual! Luckily we have six trades before then (eight if you double boost). &nbsp;</p>



<p>The aim of this round’s article is to give you a live look at my thought process and how I will go about preparing for the rounds ahead.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Step 1</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Will I have enough players?</strong></p>



<p>Check how many Adelaide + Hobart guys I own to make sure I can field a team in round 5.</p>



<p>Add in any guys who may not play like Josh Brown. I have <strong>Wade, Shadab, Thornton and Short</strong> plus <strong>Josh Brown and Naveed. </strong>I am banking on Naveed playing both or 1 game so he is okay (hopefully!)</p>



<p>As it stands, I would be one short in the batsmen ranks and okay elsewhere, so that’s okay especially with 6+ trades up the sleeve.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Step 2</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Who do I want to sell and who do I want to get in?</strong></p>



<p>Targets from Sydney include Philippe at a cheap rate, Abbott as a must and Kerr who is on fire. Naveed would make 4.</p>



<p>Targets from Melbourne include Hosein, Rogers, Naveed and Richardson. I would also throw Harper in as a POD option at keeper.</p>



<p>In theory I can get them all if money allows but I’ll likely settle on four Sixers (three trades needed to achieve this) and three Renegades which will then allow me to keep a boost up the sleeve if I want to get aggressive. I might go a fourth Gade.</p>



<p>In terms of who to sell, I could look to cash in a Short or Thornton but I’d like to keep them.</p>



<p>Renshaw and Steketee will almost definitely go along with Zampa and possibly Matty Wade given how good Inglis’ draw and form is.</p>

<p>Poor old Lyth could not be more on the chopping block, whilst the other trades will be tough.</p>



<p>Given the next doubles after Round 5 aren’t until round 8 there is plenty of time to build.</p>



<p>That double also includes the Sixers who I will already have so there is no real panic and makes me think I am okay with using a second boost if it’s warranted.</p>



<p>Just make sure you keep a boost for round 9 because it’s a double gamer for three teams!</p>



<p>In fact two boosts ahead of round 9 could be handy, so don’t throw them away unless worth it!</p>



<p>In short and based on the above, I can sell Short and Thornton to really grab value and immediately grab them back after their bye. I’ll just have to ensure I keep the cash to do so.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Step 3</strong></h2>



<p>Before making the final decisions, I will also need to check if there are any single game round guys I am currently without who I need/want to get in.</p>



<p>At this stage I am okay pending what happens the rest of tonight (written on Friday), so that’s handy but don’t be afraid to search and try to sneak in a value or quality fallen gun POD option if you can do it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Sum Up</strong></h2>



<p>After writing this I am happy with the next 4-5 rounds as being okay to navigate and I think there will be a real opportunity or two to make a move with a point of difference, whether it is before the round 5 bye or after.</p>



<p>Boost wise I am open to using my second over the next few rounds, but ideally I’ll be able to save both heading into the round 9 triple-double!</p>



<p>I’ll keep things flexible in this regard because a lot of BBL Supercoach is about making decisions on the run.</p>



<p>As always, look to loop (<a href="http://13.210.220.211/2022/12/12/how-to-use-the-auto-emergency-vice-captain-loophole/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">see explainer article</a>) with any players early in each round and remember that there is no sport quite like cricket when it comes to ups and down so don’t let things get you down.</p>



<p>It can swing for and against you very, very quickly!! Just ask me, I played Wade over Inglis and traded Neser out three minutes before lockout!&nbsp; But it’ll turn back for me, believe me 😉 Have faith!</p>
