Weekly Wrap: Round 16 stars, flops, injuries

Wet weather footy is back and my word Sydney got a drenching! Seems every second or so week the heavens open up and we have yet another variable to consider when settling on trades, captaincy choices and final 17s. This week was no different with an absolute rain bomb dropping in on Sydney.

Every week I and I’m sure many others seem to leave plenty of points on the pine, with Koula and Arrow looking at me with massive numbers this week, hands in the air like Gutherson, saying, &#8220;why didn’t you pick me coach?!&#8221;.



With squad depth this always becomes tricky and more often than not, we get the decision wrong.



The NonFungible Turbos had a very good week, with Papi helping me on my way to scoring 1272, rising 506 spots, into 646 overall.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sea Eagles v Storm</h2>



Ohh lordy me! Could Thursday night have gotten any better? Manly get the W, I found some Maxibons in the freezer I didn’t know I had, and my patience in being a Papi owner paid off! It was looking bleak for 75 minutes with only the 1 TA to his name, but in 5 minutes he amassed nearly 100 points with 2 more assists and a double! I’m still smiling, and the messages I got from the Spy; well&#8230; You would have thought he won the lottery.



Be interesting to see how many trade him in, despite losing all of roughly $11. My only advice from my throne of being an owner is don’t tear your side apart&#8230;



Grant was pretty well contained and had his lowest score of 2022 scoring only 37 and Anderson&#8230; Well, thankfully he was bottom dollar. If I was a non-owner, I wouldn’t be rushing to trade him in for this week coming, should he be named.



Koula went mad with his first triple figure score of his short career. Won’t be his last, although many including myself had to look at it in grey as an NPR. Can’t win them all! &nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Knights v Titans</h2>



Edrick Lee of Origin winner fame. Now proud owner of 5 tries in a game record holder, the Knights winger was on fire! The Knights totally outplayed a very bad Titans side, and the wingers were the ones who cashed in.



Big Eddy amassed a massive 172, not very relevant in the Supercoach space but I’m sure some out there are owners, and Dom Young who hasn’t done much wrong all year bagged a hattrick and 106.



Klemmer got binned which dropped his score to 55. Still a solid FRF choice but hasn’t had an attacking stat since he was at the Dogs.



Wouldn’t be going near too many Titans players but Fifita showed some good signs in his comeback from that knee injury. Might give him 3 or 4 weeks, but a massive POD for rounds 20 onwards.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Panthers v Roosters</h2>



Seemed like half my side were playing in this matchup, which was a good thing as most went very well!



Cleary and Co just went about their work. Cleary being a very popular captain choice after his Origin heroics and managed a solid 82 in a weekend where scores weren’t at their highest.



And shout out to my favourite non bearded Australian Goalkeeper Maty Ryan who predicted Tago to go well! He was on the chopping block for me, and his wise words saved him for another week and thankfully I did as he went on to score a try and finish with 86.



Api has shown he could be a near keeper for the remaining rounds to those owners. A massive 107 and no signs of slowing down. 80 minutes in the middle of the best side in the comp.



And in the words of the great Dez Creek, “Joey Manu is fixture proof and is a must have in your side for the rest of the season”. Dez, I couldn’t have put it better myself! One of the best takes of the year and my word how right he was. 97 against the best defence in the game, 26 of those came in tackle busts! In the supposed tough run, he had where he played Penrith, Melbourne and Parra he averaged 82. Sensational!



Gussy Crichton had a night to forget and will hopefully put that behind him before next Wednesday.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Bulldogs v Sharks</h2>



Well, if this match got any wetter they would have needed lifeguards! I can’t remember a ground being as bad as what CommBank was through that match.



Obviously, the wetter hair the better for Nicho and the pundits weren’t wrong! He went large with 96 and considering the weather, his kicking boot was on! In a pretty dour match, he was head and shoulders above the rest. Since I called for him to be traded out on the podcast, he has gone on to score back-to-back 96s. Sharpest mind in the game some say.



Mulitalo and Katoa both found the line and scored 57 and 63 respectively. You can’t go wrong with either for the next month or so whilst Talakai will hopefully be pulling on a blue jersey. The blue of Cronulla next weekend and will give us all another number.



Maxy King like Jungle Edge just loved the wet and got through a mountain of work for his 57 whilst man of the moment Kiraz didn’t see too much footy, but the young colt is no good on a heavy 10. Hold for now.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cowboys v Broncos</h2>



The halcyon days of the QLD derby seem to be back and in a big way! End to end footy that just reinforced how good the Cowboys are for 2022.



Players like Robson, Drinkwater and Holmes have just gone to another level under Payten and Supercoachers are the ones who benefit!



Scotty D has just been superb all season and looks a great choice to partner Munster home in the 5/8 spot with 87 on Saturday afternoon, setting up 3 tries. Robson too has been a great foil to Grant and since Round 13 has scored 315 points, far outscoring any other Hooker in the same period (Its late, this may not be the case but check SC Playbook Data centre and see for yourself!)



Will be keeping an eye on Leilua over the next month! Has always had Supercoach pedigree but has been playing in a well beaten Tigers side. Massive POD but he will be cheap.



For the Broncs, they showed the can go with the good sides for a good 60 minutes but need that next gear to stay top 4. Cobbo was fantastic and the move to Fullback did him wonders. Should have been there since Round 1 but hey I’m just a salty former owner. 77 to bounce back after a few quiet weeks.



Haas notched 58 but looks a sell has he has succumbed to his 4 shoulder injuries he has been carrying and Staggs owners will see further red, as he will plummet in price, but will suit up next week. Hold for one week at least.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Eels v Rabbitohs</h2>



Oh, how good was it to see big Trell back! And he reminded us of all of what a superstar he is! I have no doubt that if he played in the 2021 GF Souths win, but hey that’s history.



He returned with a huge 99, and now will be available for Souths in next weekend, being Round 17. Most will be looking at Papi but for close to 300k less, he looks a huge play!



Linked up so well with Cody and AJ, the 3 now look like somewhat holds for the next month. AJ especially as he crossed for a double and 111. Newcastle and the Bulldogs in the next fortnight, he could easily ton up in one of those matches.



Graham came back from a HIA check to finish with 52 which included a TA. Got moved to the right edge which remains to be seen whether he holds that spot or heads back to the left where all the action is.



And what to do about Parra. I hope the fans out there have some decent life insurance because supporting them surely is taking years off your life! I own 3 players and even that is stressful! Matterson was ruled out late, so he took no part and Papali’i scored only 38. It wasn’t their night.



Moses barely got his jumper dirty scoring only 33 but takes on the Tigers next week and owners will be hoping for a big game to repay the faith of owning him. I couldn’t bring myself to do it!



I traded in D Brown for Munster and whilst his 58 didn’t reach any great heights, he has a dig and that’s all we can ask for.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Warriors v Tigers</h2>



What a sight Mount Smart Stadium was! The Warriors were always going to come out and put on a show and credit to them and their fans, they got exactly what they deserved, a resounding win!



Captain Tohu barged over for a try to register 85 whilst Aitken was solid for his 68.  They don’t scream Supercoach potential but ill be watching with keen interest to see how they finish the season with a few more home games. Curran could become relevant again with a few attacking stats.



The Tigers are very irrelevant in both NRL and Supercoach, but Joe O does look like someone you could take a punt on. Scored 81 which was all base! Huge numbers and a smoky for next week maybe.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Dragons v Raiders</h2>



A lot of Supercoach sides would have been well and truly wrapped up by this game, barring Joey Taps or Lomax. So, when Mother Nature decided to turn the wind and rain dial up to 11, many wouldn’t have been confident of big scores.



But Joey Taps doesn’t care for weather. He just scores points at will! Dry, wet, day, or night, he would bang out 80 odd playing on the moon. My word what a season he is having. Finished Sunday arvo with another impressive 85 and since Round 12 has scores of 73, 78, 95,82 and 85. Elite! And he does it all in 50 or so minutes. I want him badly but at what cost? Someone has to go, and he will be close to 700k by the time I get around to trading him in.



Suli bagged another try and one that I am considering for next week. Has a great base for a CTW and just needs some attacking stats and could be a very good 5/6th CTW for the remaining run home.
