Draft Breakdown: Round 8, waiver-wire, trade targets

This season is flying and we are nearly a third of the way through the regular NRL season.



Last week all the suggestions went decent with TMM probably the worst of the bunch, but he will only get better after his first game since 2018.



Just a note on Paix, although he looked great and scored well, he only got 30 minutes and won’t be a hold if those poor minutes continue.



We have some great matchups this week and if the weather holds up, I’m expecting some big SuperCoach scores.



Every week I will be looking at players still available in 65% of leagues. Here are some options for this week.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">TOP PRIORITY WAIVERS</h2>



Isaiah Tass



Tass has only played 16 minutes of NRL for Souths but looked great in those 16 minutes, albeit against a broken Bulldogs team in round 6.



He comes in for the suspended Milne but is a chance of holding the left centre spot (or even right centre) for Souths.



There’s some big wraps on Tass and it’s not like that left centre has been locked down by either Paulo or Milne.



Souths left side isn’t as potent as it was last year, but anyone outside Cody is still a top tier priority.



Jazz Tevaga



Curran looked to have suffered a major leg injury against the Storm last week and with no sign of Tohu Harris, Tevaga will be SuperCoach relevant again.



Any time Tevaga gets minutes he scores well and always gets through a huge amount of work and he has a handy offload.



Lock him into your teams until Tohu or Curran return from injury.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">VALUE WAIVERS</h2>



Karl Lawton



Man I love me some Karl Lawton and he is the perfect SuperCoach player when given time on the field.



He has a good work ethic, runs good lines and isn’t afraid to take a scoot from dummy half and go for the try line, which is surprisingly effective.



He has a poor average as he is mainly used in a 20 minute role, usually subbing for Croker.



When he gets an edge role, like he has until Manly’s backrowers returns, he is a great play and should score 50+ points this week.



Importantly available at HOK and 2RF.



Andrew Davey is injured, while Haumole Olakau’atu is suspended for a week, and Josh Schuster is on the extended bench.

Aaron Schoupp



Schoupp has amazing base for a CTW and has averaged about 35 BPG since he debuted last year.



Although the Bulldogs aren’t exactly setting the world on fire, they do have potential to score points after this week against the Roosters, with easier opposition in the Raiders, Knights, Tigers and Dragons.



Schoupp is great option for a high floor CTW who can get you 40+ points without a try



Jacob Liddle



I rate Liddle as a hooker in both NRL and SuperCoach, coming off a great individual year last year.



He was dropped from the team and is a risk of being dropped again if the Tigers lose, but when playing 60+ minutes he will get through a heap of work and will also challenge the line.



Last week in 71 minutes he scored 61 points in base. I will take that any day of the week from my HOK, who is owned by less than 35% of teams.



Josh McGuire/ Ryan Sutton



Both McGuire and Sutton are dual FRF/2RF and scoring well.



They have questionable job security with Sutton averaging 50 PPG over three games and McGuire averaging 57 PPG over two games.



Neither are the most exciting or long-term viable options, but they can do a job for you if you are lacking in those positions or need some cover.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">TRADE IN TARGETS</h2>



Luke Brooks



Brooks is averaging 50 PPG due to some fairly ordinary performances by the Tigers.



After two wins I don’t think the Tigers are going to be world beaters, but I do think with Hastings doing all the organising, Brooks can be a 60 PPG player.



He will run more and as second receiver will get more assists.



The added bonus is that he should get dual HFB/5-8 status in round 12.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">TRADE OUT TARGETS</h2>



Dylan Brown



Due to the Eels injuries to outside backs, Brown has been shifted to centre on two occasions this year and is named to play at centre this week.



I don’t get it… I am not sure why you would move your half, who is killing it, to centre. Wouldn’t you rather move a backrower to cover the injuries?



Anyway, I am not an NRL coach and the Eels have won on both occasions so I guess you can justify it’s working…



He scored 77 points last week with a great try, but his opportunities to get the ball outside Arthur are very limited.



Brown is in great form and could get CTW status potentially, but I don’t want my gun 5/8 hampered and now with a much lower ceiling.



Due to his great performances, form and amazing 77 PPG average you could get a great player in return for Brown.



Yes, Brown as the centre is likely a short term fix for Parramatta, but it’s something I wouldn’t want to risk it happening come finals time.
