Strategic planning: Left-field thinking to counter team chaos

As Supercoaches count down the final minutes before the madness of Team List Tuesday, more commonly known as TLT, I thought I’d ponder on a strategy that hasn’t got much coverage if any for season 2022 in Supercoach.



With the expected outs to squads through positive CVOID tests I have heard plenty of banter about how Supercoaches are going to handle it throughout the season.



Of course the extra trades and super trade boost weeks will help, but how can we help ourselves before the season starts?



I started thinking about this and thought of the common saying in financial and investment circles – ‘Spread the risk’.



What does this look like in Supercoach? Well, let’s have a look. Below is a team I have put together with at least one player from each NRL team and no more than two players from any one side.

The above team was put together mainly with most popular players in Supercoach as per the Supercoach website. Not a bad team!



The advantage in this is if COVID runs through a club and knocks out multiple players your team isn’t decimated for the coming weekend of footy.



It might seem unlikely, but Adam Reynolds and Koby Hetherington have shown us that any player can go down at any time. We know it’s going to have an impact on the NRL season so don’t let it ruin your Supercoach plans by spreading the risk!



Then I looked at a team that could be put together with the same principles of one player from every team and no more than two players from any given team and including Turbo and Cleary – the two standout guns of Supercoach in 2021. This is what I came up with.

Again a pretty decent side with some holes in it (but most sides with Turbo and Cleary will have holes) and the risk is spread out.



With Cleary now out the first few rounds, the same principle could apply to any $800k+ player.



This is extreme examples of the strategy, but obviously Supercoaches can use it as they wish and it certainly is something to consider.
