<p><strong>Analysing the top 20,000 teams after Round 17</strong></p>



<p>With the bye rounds now out of the way, the final eight rounds become a test of patience.&nbsp;</p>



<p>It’s hard to see trade in options being brought in by other teams…but it’s probably the smartest possible thing you can do right now. &nbsp;</p>



<p>Unless you somehow conserved trades early in the season, you are likely running low and each trade from here is like gold. </p>

<p>From a personal perspective, I’ve got five trades, so I’ll be saving them for either long term injuries or suspensions to guns (which unfortunately does typically occur) or for the most critical of moves (e.g. Nathan Cleary making an early return).</p>



<p>With that said, let’s take a look at the ownership levels of players in each position after round 17 to see how your squad stacks up..</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Fullback</strong></h2>



<p>With almost every ‘serious’ player owning Turbo, the choice of your second FLB feels like a big move in the run home.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Only 38% of the top 10,000 teams own Clint Gutherson and 31% of the top 10,000 own Teddy – although he is much more of a POD in the top 100 or top 1,000. &nbsp;</p>



<p>Kalyn Ponga looks to have a sweet draw after this week – if he was goal kicking he’d almost be a must. &nbsp;</p>



<p>And Ryan Papenhuyzen is lurking – perhaps only a week away. I can’t imagine wanting to finish the season with a Reece Walsh or William Kennedy in place of one of those guns? &nbsp;</p>



<p>In saying that, if Papenhuyzen costs you two trades to bring in, is he worth it? Big decisions coming!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>CTW</strong></h2>



<p>Another week, another AJ tonne. As someone who decided to anti-POD AJ five weeks ago it is fair to say that I have egg on my face – unlike the 96% of teams in the top 1,000 who have him. &nbsp;</p>



<p>When I look back at his scoring history I somehow convince myself that it was the right call at the time – but then I look at him playing the Bulldogs again this week and wonder how the boys keep him to less than 150. &nbsp;</p>



<p>Not surprisingly, Supercoaches have been keen to bring in any attacking player up against the Dogs. Last week that was in the form of Daniel Tupou, whose ownership increased from 6% to 30% of the top 10,000 teams (and 43 of the top 100). &nbsp;</p>



<p>Whilst his base was very solid, I suspect his new owners were hoping for a lot more than the 50 points he posted. &nbsp;</p>



<p>Similarly, a further 15 of the top 100 teams brought in Joseph Manu, including the leading team who captained him!  </p>

<p>Not sure about the love for Manu there. I could be wrong – and I clearly was with AJ (!) but I just don’t see Manu as a high ceiling or premium CTW in Supercoach.</p>



<p>A great player in real life, but with just two tonnes in the past six seasons and an average of around 50 that feels like a poor trade to me. I hope I’m wrong. &nbsp;</p>



<p>In other news at CTW last week, around 10% of teams successfully brought in Taane Milne whilst 7% brought in Campbell Graham (who posted a disappointing 33) and 9% brought in Xavier Savage (who could only manage 25).</p>



<p>Valentine Holmes’ injury in Origin 3 would be a nightmare for the 17% of the top 1,000 teams who own him. He looked a handy POD for the run home to me whereas now he is in the nasty ‘do I trade him out or not’ zone.  </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Five-eighth</strong></h2>



<p>Spare a thought for the 4% of teams who brought in Kodi Nikorima two weeks ago and the 8% of the top 100 who brought him in last week. 7 points in two weeks for a guy who was averaging 70 up to that point is just cruel. &nbsp;</p>



<p>No doubt his owners were in shock when they saw Reece Walsh lining up to kick at goal from in front. Without the goal kicking he loses 13 points per round on average so his owners will be desperately hoping that was a one week thing.</p>



<p>The incredibly patient 5% of teams who held onto Cameron Munster suddenly have a beautiful potential POD on their hands. With trades at a premium and presumably bigger problems elsewhere to solve, it’s hard to see Munster getting to high ownership levels unless there is a long term injury to one of the heavily owned players.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Halfback</strong></h2>



<p>Shaun Johnson is now the most owned halfback in Supercoach. &nbsp;</p>



<p>15% of the top 100 brought in Sam Walker.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2RF </strong></h2>



<p>There actually wasn’t a lot of trade activity at 2RF last week. With very few 2RF keepers playing, the only players who attracted any interest of note were Jason Taumalolo (+4% in the top 10,000 teams), CHN (+6%), Luke Thompson (+3%) and Sitili Tupouniua (+2%). &nbsp;</p>



<p>Most of Tohu Harris’ owners held firm, and with Tohu being named on an extended bench this week, the signs look promising that he should be back soon. Tohu’s ownership fell from 95% to 79% amongst the top 10,000 teams.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>FRF </strong></h2>



<p>The main change at FRF was the further increase in ownership for Addin Fonua-Blake. AFB is now owned by 42% of the top 10,000 (up from 23%) and 61 of the top 100 teams (up from 41). His new owners sold a combination of JFH, TPJ, Spencer Leniu and Stefano Utoikamanu.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>HOK </strong></h2>



<p>Not a lot of movement at HOK last week. The main player to attract interest was actually Victor Radley, with 4% of the top 10,000 teams and 7% of the top 500 teams bringing him in for Jayden Brailey.</p>



<p>The Cheese is now the most popular HOK amongst the top 100 teams. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Round 17 Captaincy Choices</strong></h2>



<p>Not surprisingly, 68 of the top 100 teams captained Cody Walker and a further 20 VC looped him. When you then add the 3 teams who captained AJ, a whopping 91 of the top 100 scored 130 with their captain.</p>



<p>Not the top ranked team – he captained Joseph Manu – having unsuccessfully captained Cody as a POD last week. Looking back, the obvious captains each week have tended to score consistently well so it’s a big POD move to keep going against them.</p>



<p>With Turbo out this week, I guess Cody is another strong option this week against the Bulldogs. In saying that, the likes of Nicho Hynes, Reuben Garrick and AJ will all no doubt attract interest.   </p>
