Final Word: Rd 7, key trade + tactical advice

would you stop talking about Luke Thompson. He has been an awesome pod for me, until you all started spruiking him. 😉

I felt like last week was huge for all player’s SuperCoach seasons, but this week shapes as another big one.&nbsp;



Plenty of tough decisions to be made on the trade front with Ryan Papenhuyzen out for an undetermined amount of time.&nbsp;



Add to that the suspension of Latrell Mitchell and suddenly Tommy Turbo is set to be the most traded in player.&nbsp;



Cody Walker returns after his suspension and gets a softened up Titans side on a fast track – look out!



Trade-wise this week I am again really conflicted. Whilst last week’s trade to Jarome Luai was a mild success thanks to a junk time try-assist that also helped my captain Nathan Cleary, I passed up the opportunity to get Isaiah Papali’i for fear of Ryan Matterson’s return to the team.

This week I am still considering bringing in the most improved player in the NRL in Papali’i but have the advantage of seeing whether he’s named in the back-row before I make my decision.&nbsp;



If he is named I think it’s going to be very hard for me not to trade him in given his current form and the fact that he probably plays decent minutes for the first bye week with Junior Paulo and Nathan Brown in origin camp.&nbsp;



But the question is have I missed the boat with Isaiah Papali’i with him now priced at $630k?&nbsp;



Reed Mahoney is another serious consideration of mine this week for Jayden Brailey.&nbsp;



Mahoney is in career best form and I like his chances for a big SuperCoach score in Darwin and would feel very comfortable holding him in my HOK position through to the first bye at very least.&nbsp;



I also have options to strengthen my CTW through the acquisition of Nofo or really solidify my 2RF by buying Tohu Harris. Josh Curran and Jake Simpkin are very tempting as cheapie buys but I would like to be patient and bring in next week if they warrant it. All that doesn’t even take in to account the biggest decision…….trade Papi or hold? Big decisions to be made.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PODs &amp; Super PODS </h2>



After six rounds here’s the players I’ve identified as PODs (Point of Difference players – less than 10% owned) and Super PODS (less than 2% owned) that should be on your radar. I’ve listed them in ranking order of who I believe is the best to take the risk on:&nbsp;



PODs (My top 5 ranked) 



1. Harry Grant – In a stacked HOK position but has rocketed to the top of my rankings as a lot of players I had in here last week have either dropped off or ballooned in ownership taking them out of POD status. Only a matter of time until Grant is getting 65+ minutes every week.  



2. Matthew Lodge – Delivered last week with an excellent performance. Poor old Mitch Kenny would be having nightmares about Lodge the way he bumped him off every time. I think Lodge is set to score 50-65 points every week and is significantly underpriced. 



3. Dane Gagai – Many are searching for the right CTW to upgrade to this week. Gagai averages 65.3 and hasn’t scored under 48 points all year. Imagine that reliability Charlie Staines owners! He might move to wing while Latrell’s out but I don’t think that overly hurts his scoring. 



4. Matt Burton – Momirovski’s suspension appears to have solidified Burton’s spot as a genuine top 5 POD. He’s in a rich vein of try-scoring form as well. 



5. Val Holmes – I probably couldn’t be less impressed with Holmes’ form this year, but the fact remains if you take out the 20 he scored in the first game of the year v Panthers he has averaged 69.2 SC points per game and that makes him well and truly in the conversation for CTW trade-ins. His upcoming run of Raiders, Warriors, Broncos and Roosters is not too bad.

Super PODs (My top 5 ranked)



1. Tom Trbojevic – After that performance in his return game he has to keep his spot as my number one Super POD. Likely to have a huge spike in ownership.  



2. Adam Doueihi – Continues to deliver for owners and Doueihi believers with a current average of 70.8 which is right up there with the best 5/8s in SuperCoach. Continuously improving and has multiple ways to score SC points which is always good.   



3. Luke Thompson – I thought long and hard about adding Thompson but I think the combination of how good he looks and how decimated an already weak Bulldogs pack is will see him continue to score well. He looks significantly underpriced. 



4. Kalyn Ponga – There is a an argument that with Blake Green at halfback instead of Mitchell Pearce this could really free up Kalyn Ponga to be at his attacking best. He certainly was against the Sharks last weekend. The acid test is how he goes against the miserly defence of the Panthers. If he produces a 70+ score Ponga might just be set for a career year for SuperCoach. I’m actually leaning towards getting Ponga next week if not this one.  



5. Reuben Garrick – If you believe in Turbo the ultimate balls-to-the-wall play would be to bring in Garrick also. If Manly go on a tear he may score a lot tries and kick a lot of goals.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CLOSE WATCH</h2>



New segment listing the players to keep a close watch on over the next month for their SuperCoach prospects:



1. Shaun Johnson – Averaged 68 SuperCoach points per game last year and arguably the new rules suit him better than any other player in the game. When he gets the start he’ll be in my team. 



2. Siosifa Talakai – Expect an increase in minutes this week from his 37 minutes in his return game. Averaged 72.5 in the seven games he started last year. Wait until he secures the starting spot and then hit that trade button! 



3. Sam Verills – He had a long stint out with injury and probably due to that fact is insanely underpriced. I know the HOK position is stacked with cheapies and guns and all the rest in between but the potential move of former All-Black flyhalf is probably a good month or more away , meaning Verrills is the clear big minute dummy half option. How quickly he can get up to speed and match fitness is the big watch.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CAPTAINS</h2>



Many who went Nathan Cleary will be tempted to back up again and rightfully so. I think they’ll target Blake Green’s speed and lateral movement and he defended on the Knights left edge last week. Was that just to get away from Dave Fifita?&nbsp;



Either way I can’t see them lining him up against the lethal Panthers left edge so that would be good news for Cleary and Capewell and hopefully Staines.&nbsp;



Again Brian To’o and Jarome Luai present decent options on Thursday night. For those that kept or have brought in Cody Walker, history suggests he will be a very solid play v Titans with Latrell out.



Tom Trbojevic and James Tedesco are also great captain options if you like the match ups. Finally Cameron Munster with no Papi and hopefully the goal-kicking duties could be in for a monster! 



Verdict: At this stage I&#8217;m still a little torn, I&#8217;ll either put the VC on Cleary and C on Teddy, or just go the straight C on Cleary.
